More than 200 players from all sections of the U.S. will vie for the $25,000 prize money. 778 Cases Handled By Juvenile Court During Past Year A total of 778 cases were boys, 223, and girls, 74, disposed of by the Jackson I in the unofficial delinquency county juvenile court during cases. Detained Overnight A total of 152, including 117 boys and 34 girls, were detained overnight or longer in the jail or police station. However, most juveniles have been lodged in the county detention home since it began operation Dec. 20, with jail detention only when there is no room at the home, Mrs. Crowell said. None of the un official cases was detained overnight. Disposition of the cases in cluded 24 committed to a pub lic institution for delinquent children; 9 to other public in stitutions; 23 to other courts; 43 to a public department; and 29 to private agency or institution. Official cases of delinquen cy included 25 for auto theft; 38, burglary or unlawful en try; 5 robbery; 25, other theft; 3, truancy; 55, running away; 34, being ungovernable; 3, sex offensp; 3, injury to person; 8, act of carelessness; and 48 other behavior. Unofficial Delinquency Most of the unofficial de linquency cases were for bur elarv or unlawful entry, 41; SUNDAY sn GO U other theft, 78; running away, i 40; being ungovernable, zi; act of carelessness or mischief, 48; and other behavior, 47. Dependency and neglect cases disposed of by the court included 31 for lack of ade quate care of support; 10, abandonment or desertion; 12, conditions injurious to morals; and 9, abuse or cruel treat ment. Ten commitments of men tally deficient children were made. Referrals came mostly from Medford, with 397. V Summerfield told Congress in j testimony made public today , his department is planning a great many new postal facil ities throughout the country." Summerfield said the-projects are part of a program intended to modernize the en tire postal system. He said 2,000 rew post of fices built in the last four years "have only begun to eat away at the large back log of inadequate and obso lete postal facilities."
