Neuberger (D Ore.), said today Postmaster General Arthur Summerfield has told him that Portland is definitely on the list for con struction of new post office facilities. The Oregon Democrat said Summerfield gave him the assurance at a Senate Post Of fice Committee hearing. Neu berger quoted Summerfield as saying plans for a new Port land post office are "about ready." Oregon Insurance Firms Disclose 'Gimmick' Selling DIRECTING KIWANIS KAPERS Robert E. D'Arcy, above, of Lassen Productions, ..Hollywood, Calif., is professional director of the Medford Kiwanis Kapers which will be pre sented Feb. 26, 27 and 28 and March 1 at Medford High chsol auditorium. The show, "Krazy Kapers of 1958," has a magazine revue theme and will have all local talent under D'Arcy's supervision. D'Arcy has a long background in radio, television, movie and stage show business. He has been with the Lassen firm since 1951 as producer-director shows of civic organizations in southern California. He is a graduate of Don Martin's School of Radio and Television and has served on the staffs of radio station KPKW, Pasco, Wash., and television stations KFI, Los Angeles, KRCA, Hollywood, and KCOP, Los Angeles. Between civic pre sentations, D'Arcy has worked in the production of motion pictures, including "Spirit of St. Louis," "The King and I," "Pal Joey" and "Jeanie Engles," and television shows, "Dragnet," "Badge 714," "Wells Fargo," "Wagon Train" and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents." Funds from the Kiwanis club performances will be used to finance the county-wide dental clinic which the service group is sponsoring. Re hearsals are now in full swing and tickets are available from any Kiwanian. CENTRAL POINT Benefit Dance Scheduled By DORIS HUGHES Central Point The Cen tral Point Volunteer Fire department will hold a Val entine dance at the Central Point American Legion hall on Pine st. Dancing will be from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. Fri day, Feb. 14. Proceeds from the dance will be used to pay for firemen's suits. " Den 11 Cub Scouts with Mrs. Harold Wilson, Den Mother, and Mrs. Mike John son visited the Pacific Tele phone company in Medford Friday. The boys went on a guided tour throughout the building. After seeing the operators at the switchboard, the boys were shown various equipment such as the tele type and micro-wave. Boys going on the tour were John Wilson, Jim Wil son, Donald Davis, Ronald Larson, Roger Hyland, Hugh Hunter, Rex Johnson and Dan Huftling. The Central Point Home Extension Unit will meet Feb. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the home of Mrs. Leo Ghelardi on the Old Staee rd. There will he a planned luncheon at noon. Mrs. Ed Knapp and Mrs. Thomas tiray will give the demonstration which will be on "pie making." Pack 40 Cub Scouts tied for first place in the Cub exhibit contest. All Dens in Pack 40 Cub Scouts Dartiei- pated in the display which is in a window of the Crater Department Store. The American Legion and auxilliary will hold a meet ing Thursday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held at Meyers Holland Post 129. Mrs. Ruby Colgan and Mrs. Grace Ivey took over the managership of the Mill cafe on Highway 99 in Cen tral Point recently. George Johns, principal of Jewett Elementary school, reported that Valentine party plans are underway in all the rooms. Miss Higin botham, who is recuperating from .surgery, will be. at. home for about six weeks. Dinner guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wend 1 1 Panter were Mr. and Mrs. George Atkins and Dale Atkins. of Medford. Mr and Mrs. George Atkins are Mrs. Panter's parents. Dale Atkins is her brother. SPEAKER TONIGHT Mrs. Helen Kevorkian, associated .with the Conservative Bap tist Foreign Mission society in Belgian Congo, will speak at First Baptist church at 7:30 T.m. today. She is one of the several speakers scheduled during the church's "Missions on the March" conference this week. Mrs. Kevorkian has been a teacher in the Bible school in the Congo for six years and is currently on fur lough in the United States. She is scheduled to return to Africa later this year. Portland (IP) Several Oregon insurance firms and the state insurance commis sioner revealed today ,an in surance "gimmick" used by a few new car salesmen to boost their commissions on new car sales. One insurance firm said it had refunded about $10,000 to policy holders for the over charges and another firm said it would refund at least that much to new car buyers who had suffered the overcharge when buying package deal in surance on their new cars. Expensive Insurance State Insurance Commis sioner Hug H. Earle explain ed that the most expensive type of insurance available, whether it was needed or not. Eugene Leroy Springer, 16, was kill ed Wednesday evening in a one car accident about 16 miles west of here on High way 30, State Police reported. Officers said the youth was eastbound in his father's pickup truck. Witnesses said he passed a truck and trailer and that the pickup skidded about 35 feet and rolled over a 35-foot cliff. He was dead on arrival at a La Grande hospital. - : Saco, Me.
