Butte Falls 55 to 47 to assume
third spot. The Loggers of
Butte Falls now have five set
backs as Talent's closest rival
in the standings. Each has
three loop frays to play.
Talent will meet the Klam
ath county titlist in a two-out-of-three
play-off starting on
March 6 at Southern Oregon
college gym. Malin, at last re
port, was riding the top among
Klamath schools but Merrill
has been labeled the team to
watch.
Combs Has 21
The Bulldogs led at every
intermission over Prospect
with counts of 13 to 6, 29 to
16 and 39 to 25. Phil Combs
sparked Talent with 21 points
and Jerry Baer had 15. Jim
Davidson had 14 for the
Cougars.
Reserves played much of
the game for Talent.
Jacksonville and Butte Falls
were tied at 40-each after
three cantos. The Redskins
hopped in front but Butte
Falls knotted the game again
at 42 and 44. Eldon Smith's
long shot for 46 to 44 with
about five minutes to play
put the 'Skins on top for
keeps and they padded out
the score in the last couple
of minutes.
Moving the ball well and
scrappy performance paid off
for Jacksonville.
Butte Falls was in front 17
to 14 at the quarter but Jack
sonville led 30 to 29 at half
time. Jim Irwin of the Log
gers paced all point makers
with 20 and Eldon Smith put
in 18 for Jacksonville.
Talent had good news in
the report that regular Buzz
Heard's shoulder was just
badly bruised and not broken
in the St. Mary's game last
night. The Bulldogs may
know Monday how soon he
will be available. "

Dons Club
St. Mary's
In WC Play
By UNITED PRESS
The third - ranked Univer

are standing 10 feet tall In
the West Coast Athletic con
ference today and probably
won't shrink an inch by the
time the regional NCAA Bas
ketball playoffs roll around.
Proving once again that 13
is just another number, the
Dons romped over St. Mary's,
69-49. It was their 13th
straight victory, the 16th in
17 games, and virtually
clinched their fourth straight
crown.
A victory for St. Mary's
would have gained the Gaels
a tie with USF for first but
the loss dropped them into
third place, as Santa Clara
moved into second with a 60
48 win over College of Paci
fic. Coach Phil Woolpert's Dons
weren't taking any chances
on bad luck. They grabbed a
15-4 lead on St. Mary's, were
in front 31-12 at half time
and coasted home. St. Mary's
Dick Sigaty led the scoring
with 18 points, while Gene
Brown had 16 for the win

The game was staged by
