A farmer in Natal, South Africa, reports that when he rigged up a pho nograph at the door of his barn and played Chopin's "Grande Valse Bril liante," every cow within 200 yards stopped feeding and listened attentive ly, but when he put on a modern band recording, the bovines lost interest and resumed feeding. Heartbroken over her stolen cow, a woman in Savannah, Ga., rushed out to the stockyards, calling her favorite bovine by name: "Susie, Susie." Susie soon trotted up two hours before she was to be butchered. For an hour, a lost heifer in Taunton, England, bellowed in distress without anyone discovering where it was. At last.it was spotted atop a town landmark which it had reached by climbing a 175-foot spiral staircase. It was lassoed and led safely down. When his cows came home from Pasture so drunk they had to be milked lying down, farmer George Brows of Vancouver, B.C., decided it was time to investigate. He discovered the boozy bovines had been eating fallen apples which had fermented. After vociferous protests, the county council of Highwicken, England, banned cows from the local lovers' lane as unwelcome intruders. A bovine electric shaver has been introduced to give cows the new look in haircuts. In Ringvvood, England, Bridge Birch, a bovine credited with producing more milk than any cow in the world, drinks half a gallon of beer every day. A farmer in Black Hawk County, Iowa, finally spotted the cause of an old hump on his cow's flank when he no ticed 12 inches of pitchfork handle pro truding from her ribs. A cow owned by a Cuthbert, Ga., dairy farmer will not leave her stall after milking time until the farmer scratches her back. When Wilfred Gagne gazed from a window of'his farm near Rochester, N. H., he was astonished to see two moose grazing in the pasture with his cows. As he ran out for a closer view, the moose dashed into nearby woods.
