police. They said the accident

ion st. Kenneth Koopman, 16,
of route 1, box 114, Gold Hill,
a passenger in the Jones car,
suffered minor injuries in the
collision, they added.

Contract Authorized
A contract with the Univer
sity of Oregon bureau of mu
nicipal research for urban
planning was authorized by
the Medford city council
Thursday night.
Under the program the
treasurer is authorized to de
posit $4,287.50 with the state
board of higher education and
enter into a formal contract
for the work. The program
is a matching-fund project in
which the city and federal
each furnish 50 per cent of
the cost.
The contract is due to ex
pire July 13, 1959. Medford
is one of 13 Oregon cities re
cently granted funds to take
part in the program. Ned
Langford, city planning con
sultant, will make' the study,
according to city hall officials.
Medford will use its funds
for a land-use study, officials
said. v

Lester has been serving 30
months in Germany in an
military police -unit. He left
Europe Jan. 31 .on the USS
Butner. He will be discharged
from the Army at Fort Lewis,
Wash. He was graduated from
Talent High school in 1954
and enlisted in the Army on
Feb. 28, 1955.

st., who died Thursday in
Portland will be held at Conger-Morris
at 9:30 a.m. Tues
day, with Rev. Sherman
Moore of Pilgrim Holiness of
ficiating. Interment will be
in Memory Gardens
Mr. Jones was born in
Marysville, Mo., June 22,
1884. The family came to the
Rogue valley 26 years ago. On
Oct. 9, 1906 he was married
to Mabel M. Joy, who sur
vives him. Mr. Jones had been
a carpenter in the Medford
area until his retirement some
six years ago.
Other survivors include two
sons: Lawrence G. Jones, and
Leland E. Jones, both of Med
ford; three daughters, Mrs.
Hazel McNeil, Pearl Stevens
and Dorothy Blair, all of Med
ford; one brother, Frank E.
Jones, San Gabriel, Calif.; al
son one sister, Mrs. Eugene
Matherly of Osawatomie, Kan.
11 grand children and three
great grandchildren.

David was born in Kearney,
Neb. on August 6, 1936. He
attended schools in Medford,
and graduated from Medford
High school in' 1954. He was
an aviation electronics man in
the United States Coast Guard
at the time of his death.
Surviving are his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Jen
nings of Los Angeles, Calif.;
one sister, Lei Lani Adelle at
home; two grandmothers' Mrs.
Frances Jennings of Medford,
and Mrs. Lulu Rice of Kear
ney, Neb.; one grandfather,
Andrew H. Larson of Med
ford; several aunts and uncles
and 'cousins and host of
friends.

Dr. Hagen said the Vanguard will make a third launching
attempt "as soon as we can," after investigation of the

Walter Kingsford, 73, who
died of heart attack Friday.
He was stricken in his North
Hollywood home.
Kingsford played support
ing roles in films, television
and on stage for the past 40
years. He created the role of
Dr. Carew in the MGM "Dr.
Kildare" series, and he was
scheduled to appear later this
month in a Playhouse 90 TV
drama.
