No Fire Found Firemen, ummoned to investigate an odor of smoke in the alley at the rear of 142 North Front St., said they found no fire in checking all occupancies at the address. Money Missing Joseph Glenn Adams, 801 North Cen tral ave., reported to city po lice $21 was missing out of his wallet which was in a chest of drawers. Police said the theft took place about 8:30 p.m. Saturday. New Chairs The Medford office of the Bureau of Land Management in the Medford city hall has recently re ceived a shipment of new of fice chairs. Officials said the chairs are of metal construc tion and replace worn-out equipment. Accident Walter Gustav Miller, 1018 Narregan st., and Doris Emily Ruth, 317 South Orange st., were drivers of cars Involved in a collision at Main and Orange sts., about 1 a.m. Sunday, according to Medford police. Police said no citations were Issued. X-Ray CIL-ic The chest X-ray clinic at Sacred Heart hospital will be open from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. and from 2-5 p.m. on Thurs day, Feb. 6, according to the Jackson County Public Health association, which sponsors the clinic. Tonsillectomies Daniel Collev. four-year-old son of Ml. and Mrs. William D. Col ley, box 911, Central Point and Lois Goodroach, 12-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs Ross Goodroach, 2909 Ma- drona lane, Medford, under went tonsillectomies at Sacred Heart hospital, the hospital re ported today. Bicycle Collision A bi cycle operated by Ellis Cor nut, 15, 607 South Seventh st., Central Point, and a car operated by William Raines 414 Oak St., Central Point, were involved in an accident at the . intersection of Fourth st. and an alley between Pine and Oak sts., Saturday eve ning, according to Central Point police. They said no one was injured. Machines Hit A car oper ated by Roy Eugene Edwards 7 South Riverside ave., struck three vending machines and a etorage shed at the Fortune stations, South Central and South Riverside aves., about 2:45 a.m. Monday, according to city police. They said Ed wards told them he lost con trol while making a turn and ran into the machines, push ing them into the shed. No citations were issued, police said. Cited Carol Jean Smith, Grants Pass, was cited for failing to leave information at the scene of an accident after a car she was driving was involved in a collision with one driven by Don Franklin LaFon, route 2, box 72, Central Point, according to Medford police. Gasoline Thefts John McNichols, 404 Bush st., Cen tral Point, reported to Central Point police the theft of gas oline from his car and pickup truck last week. Police said the damage was caused by someone throwing a rock at the tubes. CHRISTIAN MATHISON Christian Mathison, 74, of 6103 NE 36th ave., Portland, died there Monday, Feb. 3. He was a longtime resident of Medford. Mr. Mathison was born in Lillestromen, Norway, Sept. 15, 1883, and came to this country as a young man and lived for a time in the mid west. He moved to Medford in 1925 and was employed at Medford corporation as a grader, holding that position for 25 years until he retired in 1950. In 1954, he moved to Portland where he lived ever since. He is survived by his wife, Hilda, and two daughters, Mrs. Harold Cox, Newport, Wash., and Mrs. Miles Can non, Portland, and three grandchildren. A sister in Norway also survives. He was a member of the Lutheran church. Funeral services will be held the latter part of the week at Rose City cemetery chapel in Portland with Colo nial Mortuary in charge. Bur ial will be in Rose City cemetery. Columbia Trader Reaches Vancouver Vancouver, Wash. OP) The freighter Columbia Tra der, battered by a Pacific storm last month, arrived here Monday to unload its cargo of grain before moving to Portland for repairs. The vessel, bound for Ja pan, suffered a 20-foot crack in its steel deck Jan. 6 about 800 miles west southwest of Adak in the Aleutian islands. The ship put into Adak for temporary repairs before heading home. New Zealand became a Bri tish colony in 1840.
