With conditions Improving, men will return to work Monday, Feb. 3. Only the steam jammer and pond crews worked the latter part of the week. Mn. O a n e Henshaw is working part-time at the Butte Falls General store and will go on full time following the early spring slump. Gene Henshaw, who is in the ravy is aboard the USS Cavalier in Japan and will be there for six months on maneuvers Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Smith recently spent one night in Roiebure visiting Mrs Smith's daughter, Mrs. Marie Walker. The following day the Smiths visited at Sitcum Ore., with Mrs. Fred Houck nd family. Mrs. Houck is a granddaughter of Mrs Smith. Ten Lion auxiliary mem bers from Butte Falls attend ed the luncheon given in hon or of state officers at the Rogue River Lodge Saturday, Jan. 25. Members attending were Mrs. Glenn Cathey, Mrs. Charles Stratton, Mrs. Gene Irwin, Mrs. Roger Harris, Mrs. Charles Capello, Mrs. Janet Spellman, Mrs. Bruce Pingle, Mrs. Bernard Parton, .Mrs. Keith Johnson and Mrs. William Harris. Hostess clubs were Shady Cove, luncheon; Prospect, pro gram, and Butte Falls, favors Approximately 40 women at tended. ' Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stohl, local residents for the past 20 yars, have moved to New Places Listed For Dog Licenses - County dog licenses may be Obtained in two new places ;ln the county, acording to icounty dog control officials. ;The licenses may be pur chased until March 1 in var "ious parts of the county. After -that date all licenses must be -purchased at the county court-house. Z County locations for the purchases include, in addition :to the courthouse and the "county dog pound, 2872 How ard ave., in Medford, are at the police department or from the chiefs of police in Jack sonville, Phoenix, Talent, and Eagle Point. Mrs. Kizzie Ed mondson, city recorder, Butte Falls, will handle dog license tales there. They may be pur chased also at Gill's Market in Gold Hill or at the city hall in Rogue River. Allan Hunt to Open Bay Area Office Allan Hunt, former art di rector for Harry and David, Inc., left this week end to es tablish a commercial art itudio in the San Francisco bay area. Hunt, considered one of southern Oregon's outstand ing commercial artists, recent ly resigned his position at the local fruit company. He is a graduate of the University of Oregon and of Los Angeles Art .Center. After serving in the Army, he joined the staff at Bear Creek orchards in 1947. Hunt plans to open his stu dio at 606 Ansel rd., Burlin game, Calif., March 1. In his 11 years with Harry and David, Hunt created much of the original artwork in the literature used by the com pany, one of the largest mail order gift operations in the United States. Two Twisters Reported In Oregon in Past Year Portland HP) Oregon had two tornadoes in 1957, State Climatologist Gilbert Sternes said Friday in a sum mary of last year's weather conditions. ; Both the tornadoes occur red April 12. One, on the out skirts of Sandy, was a few yards wide and less than a mile long. The other moved in a narrow path across sev eral miles of southern Gilliam and Morrow counties. Dam age was less than $300. : Two-thirds of the pepper-' mint and spearmint oil pro duced in the United States is said to come from Indiana. Jack is a brother of Aaron Smith, Butte Falls. The Andy Hamstra family went to Brownsburg, Ind., for several weeks over the holi days. In Brownsburg, Ham stra visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hamstra, and brothers and families, Emmericus Hamstra and Ev ertt Hamstra. The Andy Ham stras also visited his two old er children, Billy, 15, and Dixie, 13. The Lions party given Sat urday, Jan. 25, for the March of Dimes cleared $127.50. The party was sponsored by the Butte Falls Lion auxiliary and Mt. Pitt club. The Lions as sisted the ladies. Most of the local businesses and many of the Medford stores and whole sale houses gave donations to ward the party and without their cooperation such a profit would not have been realized. Lenita (Sissy) Spellman celebrated her second birth day at a gathering Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Scotties cafe. Lenita is a daughter of Mrs. Janet Spellman. Guests pres ent were Pam and Roger Har ris, Susan and David McDon ald, Phyllis Irwin and Carmey Spellman. Ladies present were Mrs. Donald C. Smith, Mrs. Glenn Cathey, Mrs. Keith Johnson, Mrs. Gene Irwin, Mrs. Bruce McDonald, and Mrs. William Harris. Hostesses were Mrs. Clyde Moore and Mrs. Janet Spellman. Mrs. Johnson is an aunt of Lenita and Mrs. Moore is her great-aunt. The Butte Falls Community church and Assembly of God church have sponsored the Good News club for the past two years. The grade school has cooperated by releasing time from school so children, with parents' consent, may at tend. This club is for chil dren aged 4 through the eighth grade and meets at the Community church every Wednesday afternoon between 3 and 4 p.m. Overnight guests in the Fred Kincaid home last week were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd (Bud) Tungate and children of Medford. Sunday visitors were Mrs. Florence Best and daughter, Sharon, of Medford. Mrs. Tungate and Mrs. Best are daughters of the Kincaids. Recent guests visiting with the Keith Johnsons and Mrs. Janet Spellman were Mr. and Mrs. John Higenbottom and Mr. and Mrs. John McKee of Central Point. Another guest was a cousin from Prairie City, Ore. The Higen bottoms and McKees are great great aunts and uncles of the Johnsons and Mrs. Spellman. Members of the Home Ex sion and interested parties taking the sewing course in February must pre-register by the sixth of February and may do so by sending their name and address plus their unit to Mary Pat Lucy, post office box 1069, Medford. In order to attend all meetings, interested parties must ' at-1 will be held Feb. 10 or 11 tend the first meeting which at the courthouse in Medford.
