Miss Mc- jjraw was a drum majorette jt Medford High school and University of Oregon where Ihe attended two years. She currently majoring in phy sical education to become a physiotherapist. Mr. Eckel was an outstand ing football guard for Med ford High school and was named for the state class A Shrine football squad in 1955. He was also a member of the varsity wrestling team at the high school. He is now en rolled at Brigham Young uni versity and played varsity football last fall. SHOP PENNEY'S MAIL TRIBUNE Mardi Gras Announced Tudor guild of the Oregon Shakespearean Festival asso ciation announced plans last week for the first annual Mardi Gras. The event, which will be given to raise funds for the guild's annual schol arships for festival actors, will be given Saturday. Feb ruary 15, at Rogue Valley Country club. Elaborate plans are being made for the Mardi Gras, which will be a costume event in the traditional of the fes tival held each year in New Orleans before the beginning of the Lenten period. Mrs. William Dawkins and Mrs. Harry Skerry Jr., both of Ashland, are chairmen. Tickets are available at Gates' Furniture stores in Medford and Ashland and from Guild members. Betrothal News Announced Here Grants Pass Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ragan, 341 Valley View road, Grants Pass, an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Ruby Ra gan, to Raymond Garrison, son of Mrs. Bertha Keeton, Table Rock road, Central Point. Mr. Garrison is now serving in the United States Air Force. No date has been set for the wedding. Cocktail Party Mrs. Ray E. Wright, 1100 Reddy avenue, honored Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Martens of Anchorage, Alaska, at a cock tail party last week end. The Martens, who continued on to Hawaii for a vacation, were visited by Mrs. Wright in Alaska last summer. Hawaiian decorations were used for the party. Medford with their parents for the holidays. The bride- elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Popsun. Lake Grove. Mr. Neeley is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Neeley, 1012 East Eleventh street. Miss Popsun is a graduate of Oswego High school and is an employee of IBM Serv ice Bureau corporation, Port land. Mr. Neeley is a graduate of Medford Senior High school and is attending Southern Oregon college. The wedding is planned for June 14 at Lake Grove. Program Announced For Wednesday Club Wednesday Study club will meet in the Girls' Community club, Wednesday, January 22, at 2 p.m. The program will be a book review and a biogra phy of some well known per son." Miller. Mrs. Miller, the former Mrs. Leona E. Wutt of Bev erly Hills, Calif., and Mr. Miller, Trail, were married Friday evening, January 10 at the bridegroom's home at Trail, with the Rev. Ernest Evers of Trail Community church performing the cere mony. Best man for the bride groom was Richard Eastin and Mrs. Eastin, daughter of Mr. Miller, was matron of honor. Other guests present at the wedding were Mr. Eastin's mother, Mrs. Minnie Eastin, and their children, Susan Rae and Billy P. Eastin. Mr. Miller resigned his po sition as clerk for Elk-Trail school and the couple left for Beverly Hills January 14. They plan a honeymoon trip to Hawaii and will sail Janu ary 27. The plan to return to their home at Trail about April 1st. Decorations for the recep tion were furnished and pre pared by Mrs. Paul Torrance, Shady Cove, and Mrs. Robert Chamberlain, Trail. A buffet table was covered with a hand-crocheted lace cloth loaned by Mrs. Ranald Axtell. A huge white crepe paper bell hung over the table with streamers coming from the ball to the edge of the table. Directly under the bell was the wedding cake with bells on the top. The table was dec orated with white candles, white chrysanthemums and fern and silver wishbones. Mrs. Axtell and Mrs. Frank Dolenshek prepared the sand wiches. Teachers to Wed In Summer Rites Hilts Mr. and Mrs. Roy D. Horner of Paradise, Calif., announced the engagement of their daughter, Marilyn A. Horner, to Mario B. Michelon at a family party at their home. Two heart-shaped cakes inscribed with the en gaged couple's names center ed the buffet. Among the guests were Miss Horner's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Clewett and Mr. and Mrs. C." L. Hor ner. The bride-elect attended Paradise Elementary school and graduated from Chico High school. She was a stu dent of Cottey college in Ne vada, Mo., for two years and graduated from Chico State college in 1956. For the past two years she has taught at the Palermo Elementary school and lived in Oroville. Mr. Michelon is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Michelon of Hilts. He was graduated from Yreka High school, and then Chico State college in 1954. He taught at the Pleas ant Valley school for two years and this year is princi pal of the Hilts Elementary school. The couple plans a summer wedding. Rites in Reno Marry Couple Central Point Mr. and Mrs. Melvin G. Wier are mak ing their home at 427 Ash street. Central Point, follow ing their marriage Saturday January 11 in Reno, Nev. Mrs. Wier is the former Kathryn M. Foster, daughter of Joe Foster, Central Point. Mr. Wier is a son of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Wier, 3456 Colver rd. Mrs. Wier is employed by Cupp Furniture store in Cen tral Point. Mr. Wier is with Newbry Orchards, Ashland. Guest Day Set For Lady Elks Guest Day will be held bv the Lady Elks, Tuesday, Jan uary 21, in the ladies party room of the Elks club. Brown, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Orrin L. Brown, 1203 Queen Anne avenue, Medford. Miss Garrett is a graduate of Milwaukie High school and is a junior at - Oregon State college -majoring in physical education. Mr. Brown, a graduate of Medford High school, is scheduled to be graduated from Oregon State college in June. A business administration major, Mr, Brown will receive his com mission as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force in June. The young couple spent the Christmas holidays at- the Garrett home in Milwaukie and New Year's day visiting Mr. Brown's parents in Med ford. No date has been set for the wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Chisum, 3961 Hilsinger road, Med ford, announce the engage ment of their daughter. Peggy, to Earl Dillree, ion of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Dill ree, 2871 Orchard Home drive, Medford. Both are seniors at Phoenix high, school. No date has been set for the wedding. Farewell Party Given Wednesday Mrs, C. R. Gladen was hon ored at a farewell party held Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Walter Froeber, 539 South Ivy street. The Gladens are leaving soon for Milwaukie, Ore., where Mr. Gladen is being transferred to the I. H. Farm Machinery store. Attending the party were Mesdames George Hartwein, James Sallee, John Mizell, Richard Hackenberg, John Morgan, William Farr, Chal mer Blair, Glen Allen, Ru pert Wilson, Dean DeLap and Worth Wells. Mrs. Wells was co-hostess with Mrs. Froeber for the party. Mrs. Gladen was given a shower of handkerchiefs as farewell tokens, and refresh ments were served. Garden Club James Fisher of the Oregon state forestry department will speak on conservation at the January meeting of the Crater Garden club. Wednesday, Jan uary 22, the officers will meet with the Talent auxiliary at the Snack-Bar in Talent at 7:30 P.M. and on Thursday evening January 23, they will be guests of Medford Crater auxiliary at the home of Mrs. Warren Brenner, 2208 East Main street. Medford Lady Lions are sponsoring a new auxiliary at Jacksonville and Mrs. Thomp son will present the charter to the new club at a dinner to be held at the Jacksonville Community hall at 7 p.m. Fri day, January 24. The style show will be pre sented by Manns, with Mrs. John Esp as commentator. Sorority Chapter Meets Tuesday; Dance Announced Alpha Beta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held the last meet ing at the home of Mrs. Fred Johnson, 24 Corning street. A report was given by Mrs. Walter Larsen on the family the group had chosen to pre sent with their annual Christ mas basket, containing food, clothing and toys. Mrs. John Dickson, an nounced that the chapter would participate in the com munity club award contest, sponsored by several of the local merchants, as a ways and means project. ' Holiday activities reported on included Christmas carol ing at various convalescent homes in this area, by sev eral members and their hus bands, and the New Year's party. A program was given by Mrs. Paul Garren, who talked on "Prose." The city council represent ative announced that the an nual Valentine's ball given by Beta Sigma Phi sorority will be held Saturday, Febru ary 8, at Rogue Valley Coun try club. Refreshments were served by the hostess and co-hostess, Mrs. Ernest Flakus. The next meeting January 28, will be held at the home of Mrs. John Holmes, 303 Willamette avenue. Next meeting of the club organized to help newcomers to Medford and vicinity to be come better acquainted, will be held Thursday, January 23 at 12:30 p.m. at Girls Com munity club. Newcomers are invited to come and enjoy an afternoon of cards. Square Dancing Class Planned A class for adults wishing to learn square dancing will start at the Medford YMCA tomorrow night. The 12-week course will be instructed by Douglas Fosbury. The Monday night classes will be held between 8 and 10 p.m. Registration is open to adult couples and member ship in the YMCA is not nec essary. The fee charged for the course will be less for Y members, Mr. Fosbury said. Those interested have been invited to attend any of the first three lessons without ob ligation, he noted. ' Miss Gosch is a senior at St. Mary's High school and plans to enroll at Southern Oregon college this fall. No date has been set for the wedding. 4 Nevlywed Pair Lives in Phoenix Talent Miss Sally Boyd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elisha Lee Boyd, 110 Lapree street, Talent, and William Redmon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Redmon, Talent, were married Tuesday, January 7 at the Methodist church in Reno, Nev. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. David Robert son, Talent. The bride wore a blue knit suit with silver and white ac cessories and a corsage of white orchids. Mrs. Robert son wore a grey knit suit with pink accessories and a pink carnation corsage. The bride is a 1955 gradu ate of Talent High school. Mr. Redmon also attended school in Talent. They are residing in Phoenix. Mother Attends Betrothal Party Mrs. Marjorie Green, 542 North Bartlett street, has re turned home after a stay in San Francisco where she visit ed her son, Harmon B. Green. During her, stay there an nouncement was made of the engagement of Miss Nancy Menhennet, daughter of Mrs. Gladys Menhennet of San Francisco, to Mr. Green. Vorheis, chairman of Medford Junior Service league's annual spring fashion show, last week an nounced first details of the event. It will be held Febru ary 13- 14 at Rogue Valley Country club, with two af ternoon and one evening show slated. The afternoon shows will follow luncheons, and the eve ning show will be a dinner event. Mrs. Berwick L.
