December 20, 1957 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE SEVEN o Moony Programs Planned Throughout Week Christmas Sunday morning and evening programs will be given in the Sunday schools at many of the valley churches by the students. Also on this Christ mag Sunday iermon topics will express th meaning of Christ mas. Annual Christmas concerts, pageants, and other programs will be given for the public by the majority of the valley churches Sunday afternoon and evening. Some churches will hold serv ices Christmas eve, Christmas dayTand during other days of the coming week. Many groups r- have scheduled caroling through- out Medford and smaller towns In the county in the late after noon and evenings with sched ules including homes of shut-ins and the aged. Several Medford convalescant homes have been included in caroling schedules planned by youth groups. Cantata Sunday In Central Point Central Point "Love Trans cending" a cantata of the great est story of the ages by John W. Peterson, will be presented by the choir of the Community Bible church, Central Point, Sunday, at 7:30 p.m. The choir is under the direction of Mrs. Paul Kroon and accompanied by Miss Dorothy Lawton. Solo parts will b sung by Mrs. Ruth Clark, Miss Elaine Kroon, John Champ and Jerry Holdridge. The public is invited to hear this Christmas story in song. The annual Sunday school Christmas program will be given at the church Monday, Dec. 23, at 7:30 p.m. The Christmas pag eant, under the direction of Mrs. Vivian Lawton, will include members of the Sunday "school from the third grade up. Rudolph Hansen, supennten- dent of the Sunday school, has j announced that there will be a treat for the children following the presentation of the pageant. Central Point Church To Present Programs Central Point A musical pageant will be presented by the senior youth of the Central Point Church of Christ Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Bill Herberling, youth min ister of the church, will direct the program. The Bible school of the church will present its Christmas pro gram -t the regular school hour Sunday at 9:45 a.m. The pro gram will be directed by Mrs. G Carl Hover. Parents of the chil dren are invited to attend. Sunday at 10:45 a.m. the Rev. Mr. Jean M. Shelley, pastor, will speak on "Christmas, Then What?" Treats for all the young O people will be distributed follow ing the worship service. SERMON TOPIC "The Incarnate Word" will be the sermon by the Rev. Dexter Williams Sunday at 11 a.m. at Central Church of Christ, 608 North Central ave. Visit Our Maple Shop For Christmas Gifts 0 'uNt MU 5-3771 j it Mimwin r wwHl VoISey Hi-Fi Music Program Planned Prospect A Christmas music program in "hi-fi" will be pre sented at the Church of Good Shepherd Sunday at 7:30 p.m. The music will be provided by Paul Pearson and John Gart man and will include 'Christmas Carols" by the Robert Shaw Cho ral, also excerpts from Handel's "Messiah," 'How Beautiful Are the Feet of Them," "I Know My Redeemer Liveth," "Hallelujah Chorus," "Why Do the Nations So Furiously Rage," "Behold the Lamb of God." and "Amen Chorus." The program will conclude with Virgil Fox "Christmas Carols" on pipe organ. A service will precede the program and an offering will be taken. Sunday morning at 10 a.m. the children of the church school will present their Christmas program. Parents of the children are invited to attend. Tuesday, Dec. 24, the midnight services will be held at the church. Carol singing will start at 11:30 p.m. followed by a serv ice of Holy communion at 11:50 p.m. The service is open to the public. The following Sunday the church will hold their annual can dlelight services at 7:30 p.m. Firsi Christian Plans Programs The theme of the sermon for the morning worship service a the First Christian church will be "The Chijd of Prophecy." C. ! Warren Fairbanks will sing "The ! Holy City" and the choir under j his direction will sing "Earths ! Weary Waiting Done." I During the Sunday school hour a Christmas program will be presented by the children through the youth departments. This program will include the manger scene with scripture and songs by the various depart ments. There will be a dedica tion of white gifts. At 7:30 p.m. Sunday the choir of the First Christian church under the direction of C. Warren Fairbanks will present a Christ- mas cantata "Chimes of the Holy j Night" by Fred B. Holton. Miss Oveta Walden will be at the organ and Mrs. Mabel Sims at the piano. Everyone is invited to the Christmas buffet given by the church in honor of the choir members and the college stu dents home for the vacation, in the Fellowship Hall immediately after the evenings performance. The youth of the Church will present a live Christmas tableau on the lawn in front of the church building. Ninth and Oak dale aves., Monday and Tuesday between 5 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. There will be an intermission at about 5:45 p.m. Public is invited to stop and watch from their automobiles. TALENT PROGRAM Talent "Child of Destiny" will be the sermon title Sunday at 11 a.m. at Talent Methodist church by the Rev. Alice May Woolley, pastor. At 7:30 p.m. the Christmas play. "The Disappear ing Lunch Pail," will be given by the children and youth of the church. GOLD HILL PAGEANT Gold Hill The Christian church, Gold Hill, will present a pageant "The Light of Men" Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the church, corner Fourth st. and Sixth ave. The program, under the direction of Mrs. Ada An drews. Mrs. Helen Freeman, and Mrs. Doris Kavaleski, will in clude youngsters of the Sunday school. PILGRIM HOLINESS . Central Point The Christmas program at the Central Point Pilgrim Holiness church will be presented Sunday at 5 p.m. The program will include recitations, dialogues, singing, instrumental selections and a play. Reg. $2.95 Churches Friends Church Programs Include t Home Service Guide The two morning worship serv ices at the Friends church Sun day will be identical Christmas services, and pastor Clynton Crisman announces that adults are welcome at the 9:45 hour as well as at 11 a.m. "Good Tid ings," will be the theme of his message, and the choir will sing, "The Birthday of a King," with solo by Mrs. Claude Lewis. At the Sunday school hours, 9:45 and 11 a.m., Nick Gier Jr. will play accordion music, and the classes will have Christmas observances. At 7:30 p.m. the combined adult and youth choirs will pre sent the cantata, "Memories of the Manger." Mrs. Clynton Cris man will be director, and Mrs. Kenneth Boshears, organist. Soloists will be Dr. Claude Lew is, Deane Roberts, Dr. Wayne Roberts, Mrs. Boshears, Mrs. Lewis, Mrs. Crisman, and Mrs. Harold Sharp. Following the cantata, the senior Christian Endeavorers will go caroling, finishing at the Harvey Malot home, where re freshments will be served by Mrs. Malot and Mrs. Peggy Hag en. The pastor has prepared a guide for a short service to be used by families in their homes on Christmas Eve, rather than meeting at the church for a worship hour. Eastwood Baptist Schedules Pageant "Opening Their Treasures" is the title of the pageant to be pre sented by the church school of the Eastwood Baptist church, North Keene Way dr. at Ridge way, Sunday at 7:30 p.m. The pageant, written by Frederick L. Fay, tells the Christmas story not only during the time of Christ, but through representa tional people, continues the offering of gifts to the Christ child down to today. Various choirs of kindergarten, primary and junior age children will be singing as well as soloists. The Rev. Richard M. Jones, pastor, will conclude a series of sermons on "The Sounds of Christmas" Sunday at the 11 a.m. service, titled "A Baby's Low Cray." Mr. Jones will also sing the Christmas solo "The Birthday of a King." Other mu sic will be featured. Nursery care is provided. Eastwood Baptist church is lo cated north of the Hedrick Jun ior High school and is affiliated with the American Baptist con vention. ST. LUKE SERMON "Will Christmas Ever Come?" will be the question asked at the 11 a.m. worship service at St. Luke's Methodist church ! Sunday by the Rev. Melvin W. I Dixon, pastor. Ross Knotts, pastor of First Methodist church, Ashland, will speak on "God's New Deal," at the Sun day 11 a.m. worship service. Midnight Eucharist Planned At St. Mark's Christinas Eve The traditional Midnight Eu charist will be celebrated at St. Mark's Episcopal church on i Christmas Eve commencing at ! 11 p.m. Gounod's setting of the ; Holy Communion will be sung by the senior choir under the j direction of John A.
