Christmas Party The Christmas party for the Medford Odd Fellows, Rebekahs and Theta Rhos will be held to night at the Odd Fellows hall from 7 until 8 p.m. The party was previously announced to be held next Monday. Theta Rho Girls will present a skit and the program will also include carol singing, a musical presentation by a number of the children, and a visit from St. Nicholas. Friends of Odd Fel lows are invited to attend. ILLINOIS VALLEY Music Program Scheduled By HELEN BOTTEL The Illinois Valley High school music department will present its annual band and choir concert Thursday, Dec. 19, at 8 p.m. in the high school gym nasium. Under the direction of J. Van Johnson, the 40-member band and the 35-member chorus will present a varied program of sacred, classical and popular music. Nickel exploration work in the Illinois Valley has slowed considerably with the coming of winter weather. The Abbott A. Hanks assay of fice, opened here last June to handle ore samples for Nickel Corporation of America, was closed last week, and equipment was packed up and shipped back to the home office in San Francisco. The Ivy Theater in Cave Junc tion has invited all local school children to a free Christmas mo vie Friday, Dec. 20. Buses will take Kerby, O'Brien and Selma youngsters to the theater in the morning, while Evergreen school, and Illinois Valley high school students will attend the show in the afternoon. Lynda Zimmerman, who will become the bride of Kenneth Krauss Dec. 22, was honored last week at a shower given by Mrs. Twyla Salvage at her home in Cave Junction. Guests were Mesdames Fran ces Smith, June Zimmerman, mother of the bride-to-be, Ben nie Smith. Ray Frost, Polly Kel lar, Mae Salvage, Sara Versteeg, Helen Versteeg, Hazel Eggers, Vivian Tresham, Hazel Tillery, Susan Krauss, Eunice Camp and Gertrude Knight. A potluck dinner and Christ mas social is planned by the Deer Creek Grange Saturday, Dec. 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the Grange hall. Entertainment will include games and candy for the children, a gift exchange, danc ing, and games for adults. Mr and Mrs. Laurence Cush- j ing have purchased the Earl James home in Bridgeview and expect to move from Cave Junc tion after the first of the year. James is taking title to a rental home now owned by Cushing. Wecome Wagon Club Cancels Meeting Welcome Wagon Bridge club announces that the meeting set for the home of Mrs. John Richardson December 19 has been canceled. A business meeting will be held January 9 at the home of Mrs. Leland Rauch, 1216 Loal street. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Davis have leased the Central Cafe in Cave Junction to Herman Meyer and his son, Dan, of Shasta county, Calif. Meyer plans to re open the cafe soon. It was for merly operated by Mrs. Clarence Wallace. Blue Star Mothers met Tues day, Dec. 10, for a potluck din ner at the VFW hall, with all members present and five guests, Ann Turnbull, Emma Lemm, Alice Beem, Darlene Grubbs. and May Brewer. Fourteen dozen cookies and seven pounds of candy; eight boxes of Christmas cards and a roll of Christmas wrapping paper were packed and sent to Camp White. On Saturday, Mrs. Hal Moore and Joy Kellert represented the Zuleima Illinois Valley Nile club at a potluck luncheon in Med ford, when gifts from each of the clubs were brought to Zule ima Nile Temple meeting to be distributed among children at the Shrine hosiptal. A Christmas party and potluck dinner for members and their husbands js planned by the Civic Women's League for Thursday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Vibert Kirk home in O'Brien. Edna Hoskins and Audrey Lar son presented several musical numbers, after which the group joined in singing Christmas carols. Secret pals were revealed and gifts exchanged at Marguerite Rebekah lodge last Wednesday evening when members held their annual Christmas party. A musical program followed the short business meeting. Virgil Adams, city-c o u n t y planning commissioner for Jose phine county and Grants Pass, and Jim Malone, county Farm Bureau president, were guest speakers at the Illinois Valley Farm Bureau meeting recently. Adams, who is working with planning commissioners on mat ter dealing with subdivisions, roads, and access difficulties, told of the problems facing city and county planners. Malone, who is from the "Wil-derville-Jerome Prairie Farm center, discussed membership and services of the Farm Bureau. A membership drive is to be started shortly, he said. Researchers Rensis Likert and Stanley Seashore reported that "many common managerial prac tices imply that managerial skill consists of thinking up ways to seduce or else pressure em ployees into doing tasks which are inherently distasteful, or bet ter yet,t o invent a machine which displaces employees. "But a recent survey gave evi- j dence that for many people there are important satisfactions associated with their work."
