Tlle Wallowa county court J'jnday asked county dog catcher Lemuel Ry ncarson to investigate reports that dog packs are responsible for mass killing of sheep in the county within the past few months. DEFT, STORE CENTRAL POINT Woman Author Has Tips for Working Girl By ALFRED LEECH United Press Correspondent Chicago OP) Susan Rogers, who wrote a book on "How to Get Along With the Boss," would rather work for herself. As a working girl, she said, she never made much money. Now she's a free lance writer and she has two more books forthcoming, "The Fine Art of Supervising Women" and "How to Sell to Women." Miss Rogers offered these tips to the working girl, based on her own experience and inter views with scores of business executives while gathering her data for her books: Don't eat or put on make up at your desk. Don't indulge in office gos sip. Don't abuse the coffee break. "Most employers today recog nize that the coffee break boosts morale and efficiency," she said. "But if you want to get in the boss' hair just stay away too long." Emotional stability, Miss Rog ers said, is one of the prime requisites' an employer looks for in hiring. "Nobody wants a flibberty gibbet female," she said. "A good secretary must have poise and be able to respond to busi ness pressure calmly. "And no employer wants a gossip, especially for a secre tary. So a girl must be able to keep her mouth shut, something a lot of them find difficult." The working girl should dress appropriately, with the empha sis on simplicity and basic col ors, and she should keep jewelry to a minimum, Miss Rogers said. "And before she puts on her hat to dash for the 5:06 she should ask the boss if there's anything else she can do." What should a girl do if the boss makes a pass? "She has two alternatives," Miss Rogers said. "She can run or stand still, de pending on what she wants." Cowboy Favorite What child doesn't love all cowboys, plus their horses! Portland Union Merger Challenged Portland (IP) Legality of the recent merger election of the AFL and CIO 'in Portland was thrown into doubt Monday night following protests from some union members that Teamster union delegates had been al lowed to vote. The election was held after the Teamsters were expelled from the AFL-CIO on a national level. R. J. Thomas, assistant to George Meany, president of the parent organization, said Meany had received several protests di rectly from some union members in Portland. Thirty-five team sters voted in the Portland elec tion three days after they had been expelled by the national union. A telegram from Thomas di recting a new election to be held in Portland was -inadvertently unsigned and the Portland coun cil voted Monday night to held up the matter until Chet Dusten, Region 211 director of the AFL CIO could clear up the confusion in person. Officials of the Portland coun cil protested that they had re ceived no formal notification of the Teamsters' expulsion. Thomas retorted that "every body in the country knew the Teamsters were out; don't they read newspapers in Portland?" A new merger meeting has been set for Jan. 6 here. ' CROW EDUCATION Concord, N.
