Singmaster, Ashland, has been appointed an assistant secretary of the Jackson County Federal Savings and Loan asso ciation, it was announced Satur day. The, association's board of di rectors named Singmaster to the post at a meeting last week, to handle business of the associa tion in the Ashland area, includ ing the promotion of good will, handling loan applications, and other duties. Evans Creek Survey Being Undertaken Grants Pass Lee McAllister, area planning engineer for the bureau of reclamation, said Thursday the bureau is under taking a multiple purpose sur vey of the Evans valley, look ing to flood control and addi tional irrigation water storage He was the last person to be heard by the state water re sources board at a hearing in the Josephine county court house. The hearing adjourned at noon, and another was sched uled in Gold Beach Friday. Evans creek contributed ma terially to the 1955 flood which inundated areas near Grants Pass, McAllister said. The industry has made vast strides in improving its prac tices, he said, and stream dam age has been cut down substan tially. He said there is an increasing amount of over-ripe and defec tive timber in areas now being logged; timber that is well suit ed for use in pulp chipboard operations, but not fitted for lumber. Others appearing before the board included Dan Fry, opera tor of a mint farm near here, and Clyde Melvin, representing the Illinois Valley, who dis-' cussed plans for the Sucker ' Creek irrigation project.
