O O G O o O o o o SIX MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Sunday, December 8, 1957 JACKSONVILLE Committee Plans Visit By BETTE HOSKINS Jacksonville The high school college relations committee of the Oregon state system of high er education will visit Jackson ville High school Dec. 10 at 1 J3.m., Principal John Crabb has announced. - The visitation team will con sist of a representative from the state institutions of Jiigher edu cation and a representative from Oregon Technical Institute. The ' team, is headed by Francis Nick--erson, excutive secretary of the QepmmiUee of Eugene. An as sembly has been called to ex .plain general college preparation vandrequirements. Later sessions are held by the various repre 'sentatives to discuss specific re quirements of their institutions. Parents and interested public are invited to attend the guidance 'program carried on in high -schools to help students in the area of college and other post high school training. Word has been received of the death of Roy Atherton form erly of Jacksonville now of Hon olulu. He was the fater of Mrs. Fred Gustafson, the former Alyce Atherton, of Jacksonville, now residing in Portland. Weter and Mrs. Lee Harter were co-hostesses at the Minshall home one day last week for a koffee klatch and gathering of friends honoring Mrs. Fred Richardson of Sandy, Ore., former resident here, who was visiting in the area during Thanksgiving week end. Jacksonville Parent Teachers association will meet Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the primary building on Huener lane. The program will consist of an informal 'discussion. A short business meeting concern ing a yearly project with discus sion is scheduled. A demonstra tion on basketball will be given by high school athletic department. ! The Women's association of the Presbyterian church will I hold its regular meeting at the I home of Mrs. Marian Nieder I meyer on Old Stage rd., Tues ' day, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m. Officers ! for the 1958 will be elected. 1 Miss Marge Simonsen, girls I physical education teacher at the Thanksgiving week end in Sacramento, Calif, visiting her brother, who is stationed near there with the Air Force. Jacksonville Band Boosters club reports that a total of $218 was taken in on their Thanks giving eve dance at the Com munity hall. The group is now only ' $300 short of completing their goal of supplying the Jack sonville band members with uni forms. Plans for several small projects are under way in hopes to raise the" additional funds needed. Loyd Whitney of Homefinders Agency is recovering from surg ery Dec. 4 at Sacred Heart hos pital. A Thanksgiving day gath ering of the Whitney family was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lawrence. Twenty one family members were present. Mrs. Annie Brown of Medford was a Thanksgiving day guest at the home of ther son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Kennerley. Mr. and Mrs. N. J. McCready spent the holiday at the home of Mrs. McCready's son and Mrs. Frank McKeen, and family of Medford. Guests at the home of Mrs. Fay Peters were her daughter, Miss Mavis Peters, Fern Carrothers and her son, John, of Eagle Point. Over the holiday week end, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Grenshaw of Klamath Falls were visitors at the home of Mrs. Crenshaw's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Stev ens. Thanksgiving day dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Hamaker were Mr. and Mrs. James B. Noble. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Welch and children, Charles and Edna, spent the holiday week end visit ing friends and sight-seeing in Oregon City, Mulino, Canby, Gladstone and Milwaukie. On Thanksgiving day they attended a family gathering and dinner at the Follwers of Christ church in Oregon City. The Rev. and Mrs. W. D. Turn bull attended a three-day Christ Ambassador convention at Eu gene over the holiday week end. Earl Chester is spending this week in Gridley, Calif., assist ing in painting a church there. Pat Hubbard, Ricky Zimmer man and Mike Moore spent last week end at Horse Creek, Calif., at the home of Hubbard's uncle, Jesse V. Hamaker. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. The Women's Missionary Coun cil of the Jacksonville Assembly of God church held their final meeting for this year and new officers for 1953 were elected. They are president, Mrs. W. D. Turnbull; vice president, Mrs. Lee Maddux: secretary-treasuer, Mrs. Milton James. A surprise birthday party was held last Tuesday at the church honoring The Rev. W. D. Turn bull. Thirty guests were present. Preceeding the party, Christmas play practice was held. The play this year is "Carol Finds Christ mas". Carol will be played by Darlene Fields, Miss Sanders by Mrs. John Hamaker, and Miss Neuberger Urges New Postal Policy Portland OP) Sen. Richard L. Neuberger (D.-Ore.) Friday said Congres should adopt a modern postal policy which enumerates the public services to be paid for out of general rev enue instead of being charged to mail users through increased postal rates. Neuberger addressed a special committee of the Oregon News paper Publishers association here. He expressed opposition to certain provisions of the mail rate increase bill passed by the House earlier this year and now pending in the Senate. He de clared that "the present admin istration is asking our people to pay more money for ltss serv ice. It is asking the public to pay a premium for builtin waste and inefficiency."
