MYRTLE WHIPPLE Rogue River The Seafarers club met Nov. 22 at the Fellow ship hall with 44 present for the covered dish dinner at 6:30 p.m. After dinner there were two selections played on the 0 Ham mond organ. A talk was given by the Rev. Alfred Marquam, pastor of the Presbyterian church of Grants Pass. His topic was land, air and water. A short business meeting was held. It was decided to drop the age limit from 60 years to 55 years for members. The Rogue River Hobby club met Tuesday", Nov. 26, at the home of Mrs. Rolland Stiehl. Luncheon was served to 10 mem bers by the hostess. Exchange of hobby gifts were given after lunch and the afternoon was spent in visiting. The next meet ing will be held Dec. 18 with a covered dish luncheon at the home of Mrs. Isa Forsyth. Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith Thanksgiv ing dar were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Smith, Mrs. Lois Morgan and son, Hurst. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Wood and daughters of Redway, Calif., spent the Thanksgiving holiday with Mrs. Wood's "parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Magerle, and oth er relatives. Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Born Wednesday, Nov. 27, at the Josephine General hospital in Grants Pass was a daughter, weighing 7. pounds, five ounces, to Mr. and Mrs. Le$oy Cameron. Josephine Land To Be State Park Portland OP) Oregon's state parks system will be expanded by 30 acres of public domain land the State Highway Com mission voted to buy Thursday. The land is located on the Redwood highway in Josephine county and is part of a 70-acre tract under lease by the parks department for the past 20 .years. Beginning Jan. 7, a ceramics course will be offered from 7 to 10 p.m. with-Otto Wilda, instruc tor. Steve Bayless will instruct a painting class on Tuesday nights. Other Tuesday . night classes are appreciative aspects of music, Oscar Bjorlie, instructor; second year Spanish with Dennis Han nan, instructor; and principles and techniques of speech correc tion, Leon Mulling, instructor. On Thursday night beginning Jan. 9, first aid will be offered with Dan Bulkley instructor. On Monday nights beginning Jan. 6 orchestra under the direction of Dr. Herbert Cecil, and research procedures in education, Dr. Eu gene Bowman, instructor, will be offered. Registration will take place on the night the class be gins. For those who may need re quired physical activity credits, social dance or skate dance may be taken on Tuesday nights. BUTTE FALLS Thanksgiving Cool, Brisk By MARY JO HARRIS Butte Falls Thanksgiving day found many Butte Falls residents away from home and many old friends at home. The holiday was cool and brisk but bright and sunny. For the first time in sev eral years residents arose to find the town not covered with snow. who now live in the Portland area. Friday, December 6, 1957 MEDFORD (ORSCOV) WAIL TRIBUNE THREE SOCIALIZE BOOGIE WOOGIE Berlin OP The East German Communists today announced the acceptance of a "socialist" version of boogie woogie. The Soviet zone newspaper National Zeitung reported that the Com munist regime has lifted its ban on any dance livelier than a waltz or foxtrot. East Germans now may dance such western im ports as the mambo, cha-cha, ca lypso and boogie woogie, if danced "rhythmically and aes thetically with "capitalist" fea tures discarded. Salem (IP) Department of Motor Vehicle offices in Salem will be closed on Saturdays after Jan. 1. Mr. and Mrs. George Miller and daughters, Patty and Cindy, of Medford, were Thanksgiving Day guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Irwin. Mrs. Mil ler is a sister of Mrs. Irwin. Thanksgiving Day at the Roger Harris home was a family re union. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. William Barber and children, Patty and Butch and a friend of the family, Evin of Central Point; Mr. and Mrs. Clint Dale and son of Eureka; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Tracy and children of Van couver; and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Harris and children of Butte Falls. Bill, Mrs. Barber, Mrs. Dale and Mrs. Tracy are the son and daughters of the Roger Harris's. Holiday guests in the F. E. (Mannie) Poole home were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lambert and chil dren of Ashland, and Mr. and Mrs. J. E. McConochie and fam ily of Eagle Point. Miss Norma ! Poole returned home following her summer's work in the Chilo quin area. Mrs. Lambert, Mrs. McConochie and Norma are daughters of the Mannie Pooles. Keith Scott is home again and reDorted rapidly improving. Keith has been hospitalized twice as results of the flu. Keith is cus todian of the Butte Falls High school and Bob Cupples and Rog er Harris have been tending the school in his absence. It is re ported that he will soon be back on the 'job. Holiday guests in the Fred Kincaid home were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd (Bud) Tungate and chil dren and Mrs. Florence Best and daughter, Sharon, of Medford. Mrs. Tungate and Mrs. Best are daughters of the Kincaids. Friday night guests in the Fred Kincaid home were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pechner from Turkey, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Green, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Moore and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Leatherman. Mrs. Pechner is a daughter of the Greens and the Pechners re turned home for Thanksgiving. Members of the Butte Falls Lions club and Lions auxiliary met at the high school Thursday, Nov. 21, for a "family night" Thanksgiving party. Heading the program was the initiation ceremony for new members. Mrs. Glenn Cathey, president of the auxiliary, per formed the candlelight service and presented each new member her Lions pin. New members are Mrs. Bob Cupples, Mrs. Ber nard Parton, Mrs. Bob Wells, Mrs. Randall Perkins, Mrs. Gene Irwin, Mrs. Duane Smeltzer, Mrs. George Bray, Mrs. Keith John son and Mrs. Charles Stratton. Mrs. William Harris, secre tary, presented older members with 100 per cent attendance pins for 1955 and 1956. The pins are earned by attending regular meetings and make-up meetings by special committee work. NUN BURIED IN UGANDA Kampala, Uganda (IP) Fran ciscan nun "Mama Kevin," who died recently in Boston, Mass., has been buried near Kampala in the grounds of the convent she founded. Baganda tribesmen, who loved the gentle nun, raised a fund to bring her body from Boston where she retired after 50 years of work among Uganda Africans. Mrs. Bruce Pingle, program chairman, led the group in var ious games for the remainder of the evening. 4-H Club News Eagle Point Child Care The Eagle Point Child Care club held a meeting at the Eagle Point Grade school. We had two movies, "The Terrible Twos and Trusting Threes," and "The Frustrating Four and Fascinating Fives." We had a short business meet ing conducted by appointed Chairman Charlene Andrews. We discussed our Christmas party. Roll call was answered with strange things we did be tween the ages of 2 and 5. We are going to baby sit for PTA. We will also babysit for the Jaycettes Fashion show Dec. 5. There were six visitors at the meeting. . Helen Vickoren, Reporter.
