Neuberger (D-Ore.), predicted here today that the present ill ness of President Eisenhower will bring about a renewed drive to enact a constitutional amend ment providing for mid-term elections, in the event there is a succession to the presidential of fice. Neuberger said he had intro duced in the Senate earlier this year a constitutional proposal el iminating the anti-third term limitation, after President Eisen hower himself questioned the wisdom of restricting a presi dent's tenure in the White House. Neuberger's proposal also in cludes a mid-term election when ever a vice president enters the first two years of a president's term. "This is merely applying the sensible Oregon system of elect ing governors to the far greater position of the American presi dency," Neubergers aid. Three ckools Penalized Southern California and UCLA were heavily penalized in 1956 as the upshot of disclo sures they had been giving ex cessive aid to their football players. Washington also was penalized but the Bruins were banned from the Rose Bowl un til after June of 1959. The Tro jans and Huskies come out of the doghouse next June. California, which also was fined a straight $25,000, then worked out a five-point plan last summer with its sister UCLA which they want the PCC to adopt. Point five, the big one, calls for free schedul ing of football games starting next season. And that remains a main item to be solved. The schools warned they might se cede if it were not. Joe Brown 3-1 Favorite In Ring Bout New York (IP) Two title fights and a welterweight elim ination match will feature this week's boxing schedule. Champion Joe Brown is fav ored at 3-1 to keep his light weight crown Wednesday night in 15-round fight with Joey Lopes at Chicago stadium. It will be the third defense for Brown of New Orleans. Sixth-ranking Lopes of Sacra mento, Calif., earned the right to a shot at the title by holding Brown to an over-the-weight 10 round draw on Aug. 21. Their title bout will be televis ed nationally by NBC. Little Pascual Perez of Ar gentina is still a favorite to keep his world flyweight title against Young Martin of Spain at Buen as Aires next Saturday night. They were slated to fight Sun day night but rain caused a week's postponement. A crowd of 85,000 had been expected at Boca Juniors Outdoor stadium. The world tournament for the vacant welterweight crown will start Friday night when Isaac Logart of Cuba and Gas- par Ortega of Mexico meet in the first 12-round elimination at the Cleveland arena. Their fight, star bout on the annual Cleveland Christmas fund show, will be televised and broadcast nationally by NBC. Nickle Acquitted By Unanimous Vote William Mathew "Nickle, Gold Hill, was acquitted through a unanimous verdict returned by a circuit court jury Saturday aft ernoon, according to A. Main PHONE: SPORTS King Hill Bonus Choice In Pro Draft Philadelphia 'IP) King Hill, all-around quarterback of Cot Ion Bowl-bound Rice, was selected as the bonus choice of the Chicago Cardinals as the National Football league open ed its early player selection. The Cardinals, who also had first choice in the regular draft, selected All America back John Crow of Texas A&M. Hill is a 210-pounder, who can pass and kick and is a power runner. The big quar terback also kicks extra points and is a defensive star. Crow, who polled 21,269 points as a United Press All America selection, also a 210 pounder, standing six feet two inches. He was the Aggies' offensive mainstay. Green Bay, next in draft choice, selected center Dan Currie of Michigan Slate. Guardsmen Patrol Central Corridors Little Rock, Arrk. (IPI Fed eralized National Guardsmen still patrol the corridors of Cen tral High school, but today will be the first day of school for nine Negro children without the protection of the tough para troopers who turned back a screaming mob of whites here 10 weeks ago. The last 225 members of the 101st Airborne Infantry division returned to Fort Campbell, Ky., last week leaving the job of maintaining peace at the school to 900 ' federalized Arkansas guardsmen. Only a dozen or so of the guardsmen patrol the school, but the rest of the troops under the command of Maj. Gen. Edwin A. Walker are ready to move into the area at the first hint of trouble. There was no indication that any trouble was brewing. Mrs. L. C. Bates, president of the Arkansas Chapter of the NAACP, said she had the "ut most confidence" in the guards men. Gov. Orval Faubus said he be lieves that there will have to be federal troops at the school throughout the rest of the term if the Negroes continue to at tend classes at Central. Chessman Renews Court Fight for Life Los Angeles (IP) Convict-author Caryl Chessman goes back into court today to take up the fight for his life in a hearing on the 1,821-page transcript of his 1948 trial. The 34-year-old condemned man who has spent nearly 10 years in San Quentin's death row, claims the transcript was fraudulently prepared when the original court reporter in the case died. Before trial recessed last week for the long Thanksgiving holi day, Chessman won an admission from the second reporter who prepared the transcript that some changes had been made in the final version. But Stanley Fraser, the 63-year-old reporter who took over preparation of the transcript aft er the death of Ernest Perry, said the changes were made to make sense of the document. OP) The Seattle Rainiers were looking for their seventh manager in nine seasons today after Lefty O'Doul announced he was resign ing his job as pilot of the Coast League club. O'Doul, who said he wanted to stay in baseball, announced his resignation Sunday.. He directed Seattle to a fifth place finish in his one year at the helm. O'Doul had previously piloted three other PCL teams, including the San Francisco Seals for 17 years, San Diego for three and Oakland-Vancouver for two sea sons. Quarterback Unitas, tossed three touchdown passes in ship ping the Rams, two of them to Moore. Moore also scored on a 23-yard run. The victory kept the Colts in a one-game lead in the Western division of the National Foot fall league, and the loss ruined any chances the Rams might have had for the title. Los An geles has a 4-6 record. Baltimore took a 14-point lead in the first quarter when Moore went over from the 23 at the end of a 76-yard drive and Unitas passed three yards to Moore. Van Brocklin Passes Hidway in the second pgriod, the Rams pushed across their first touchdown on a 1 29-yard pass from Quarterback Norm Van Brocklin to end Leon Clarke after Larry Morris had recov ered a Colt fumble.
