WATSON Shady Cove-Trail The reg ular meeting of the Rogue Elk Extension Uiiit was held Wed nesday, Now 20, at the home of Mrs. Irvin Ross of Trail with Mrs. H. R. Corliss, chairman, presiding. Cohostesses were Mrs. Henry Rogers and Mrs. A. W. Worth. Sixteen members were present. Christmas gifts for the Ganado Mission were brought and given to Mrs Kenneth Lacy who will mail the toys along with money to buy candy. Mrs. Chester Will son presented a lesson on "credit buying." An educational report on the Safety Fair in Medford was giv en by Mrs. Alma Mallery who represented the Rogue Elk Ex tension unit at the fair. The Elk Trail Forestry Squirrels sent cookies to the meeting to be sold. The money from the sale of the cookies will go to the 4-H. attle, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kee and daughter, Laura, of Klamath Falls. Mrs. Nettie Williams of Shady Cove has purchased a home in Medford and plans to move as soon as she is able to dispose of her property and two trailers in Shady Cove. The sale was handled by Darling real estate of Medford. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Welch of Long Beach are home on fur lough anc will spent the Thanks giving holidays with Bob's moth er and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Smart, of the Rainbow auto motel. Mrs. Welch is the former Raedene Hicks of Shady Cove. The final confirmation instruc tions were held Mofiday at the home of Mrs. Bill Brewster of Trail with 14 persons present. The0confirmation service in St. Martin's Episcopal church will he held Sunday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. at the Shady Cove school gym with Bishop Carman of Portland administering the Sacrament of Confirmation to 10 members. This service Is open to the public and all interested persons have been invited. A social hour with refreshments will follow the service and child care will be provided. The regular Sunday morning service will be held at 9 a.m. in the school gym. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cross of Shandy Cove had a family din ner on Thanksgiving at their home with their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Wil liams and son, Gary, of Shady Cove and granddaughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Andrews, and son, Michael. A number of Shady Cove and Trail families planned big fam ily dinners and reunions over the Thanksgiving holiday and others took trips to have "dinner, with friends and relatives else where. ' Mr. and Mrs. Joe Waltz and family of Shady Cove 0spent Thanksgiving with friend's, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Britt and family In Bandon. The Britts are form er Shady Cove residents. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Learning and family of Shady Cove went to Klamath Falls, where they will .spent Thanksgiving with Ed's sister and family. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rogers of Elk creek. Trail, had their family home Thanksgiving. They expected their daughter, Arlene, home from the Milo academy at Canyonville Wednesday follow ed by the arrival of their son . and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Rogers from St. Helena accompanied by Mrs. Eu gene Rogers brother, Tom Yeo man, of Paradise, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Watson of Trail had their two sons and families, Mr. and Mrs. John Wat son and Mr. and Mrs. Carroll 'Watson and children of Shady Cove at their home for Thanks giving dinner as well as Mrs. Watson's sister, Mrs. Georgie Hill of Red Bluff, Calif., and another brother-in-law and sis ter, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wylie, of Sacramento, aClif. Arriving early to spend the Thanksgiving holidays with his sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Kee of Shady Cove are Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Chamber lain and sons, Terry, Larry and Gary and David of Spokane. The Kees also expected their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Kee, and daughter of Se- Many residents along Crater Lake highway (Jin the Reese creek area found no Sunday papers in the Mail Tribune boxes last Sunday mainly for the rea son that there were no paper boxes. Sometime over the week end trouble-makers removed a number of the boxes and even went so far as to take down the Butte Falls directional sign at the intersection of the Butte Falls-Crater Lake junction. Returning from a nine-day successful elk hunting trip into the John Day country were Ran ald and Monte Axtell, Wyles Berry and Frank Dolenshek of Trail and Ray Briggs and Slim Leiders of Shady Cove. Between them, the group got four elk. A reminder to residents and voters of the Shady Cove-Trail district on the election to be held Dec. 2 from 2 until 8 p.m. at the fire hall to choose one new director for the Shady Cove-Trail Fire district and also to vote on whether or not to purchase a new fire truck. This piece of equipment would necessarily have to be paid for by an in crease in taxes. The Shady Cove-Trail Lions club and Lady Lions have chang ed their place of meeting to the Rogue River lodge and future meetings will be dinner meet ings.. The first meeting at the new location was a zone meeting for the Lions Nov. 27 and the Lady Lions will meet there for the first time Dec. 4. Newcomers to Shady Cove are Mr. and Mrs. Bud Coulon of Eagle PohQ who are renting thQa trip to California which they took with their daughter, Mrs. Mildred Frisbie, and daughter apartment in the Fagalde home. Mrs. Kohler is a cousin of Mrs. Fagalde and a former resident of Shady Cove. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Larson of Ashland were overnight guests and spent Thanksgiving day with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Turner of Trail. Other guests for Thanks giving dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Myrle C. Adams of Medford? A surprise was in store for Ed Brown of Shady Cove when he returned to his home Satur day. The surprise was a fat goose in a crate in the middle of the kitchen. Reason for the goose being in the middle of the kitchen floor was that it was the door prize for the Shady Cove PTA variety show with Ed's wife, Shirley, being the lucky recipient. Latest word from Shirley was that the family menu had been planned for ham for Thanksgiving but now goose might be added provided an exe cutioner could be found. Mrs. Stella Geary of Trail had Thanksgiving dinner with her son, Norman Geary, and family in Medford, and another son, Delbert Geary, of Grants Pass at the Norman Geary home. Del bert's wife, the former Nancy Harris of Medford, spent Thanks giving with her parents at Wal lowa, Ore. This year the group con sisting of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Briggs and daughter, Phyllis, Mrs. Thelma Reinning, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hopkins, all of Shady Cove had dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Chubb. Mrs. Blanche Zimmerlee of Elk Creek, Trail, had her daugh ter, Mrs. Lena Wilkinson, and granddaughter, Camille, of Cen tral Point as guests for dinner on- Thanksgiving. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Osborne of Shady Cove are parents of a boy born Nov. 23 at Sacred Heart hospital in Medford. This is the couple's third child and second boy. Mrs. Ellen Osborne who has been keeping house for her sons, Leroy and Bob in Col fax, Wash., will come to help take care of the mother and new baby. LeRoy is recruiting officer in Colfax. Carroll Wats,on of Shady Cove entertained at his home Satur day evening with a stag Hi Fi session with guests bringing their own records to play and a gen eral musical evening being en joyed by all. Guests attending were Paul Pearson and Johnny Gartman of Prospect, Marcus Dey, Dr. A. J. Loeffler, A. Myklebye of Trail, Bob Rogers of Elk Creek, Trail, Bob Vin cent, Ed Brown, Dr. Howard Ferguson, Ted Conway and Ern est Golberg of Shady Cove and Harold Cook and Charles Cook of Medford. Refreshments were rved during the evening. Paul Pearson and Johnny Gartman of Prospect gave the set a check up eliminating a lot of unneces sary hum and flutter. Is hoped that there will be si least 450 appointments. Dr. and Mrs. Warren Bishop of Medford were dinner - guests Thanksgiving at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Staiker of Shady Cove. Dr. and Mrs. Verne Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bartuss of Shady Cove were guests for din ner on Thanksgiving at the home of Miss Marge Sandfort of Medford. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Grandy and children, Jerry and Jayne, of Napa, Calif., have been guests of Dr. and Mrs. Verne Wilson. Dave Pence died last week. Funeral services were held in Medford Nov. 23 with burial in the Trail cemetery. Mr. Pence was the father of Mrs. Ed Hous ton and Mrs. Vernon Chamber lain of Shady Cove; Mrs. Lowell Ash of Prospect, Mrs. Roy Vaughin of Trail, Mrs. Hazel Mc Pherson of Medford and Lincoln Pence. He also is survived by his wife and several step-children. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Markley and children of Seattle were re cent house guests of their aunt and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Shepherd, of Shady Cove. Markley recently was discharged from the Coast Guard and they were moving from Seattle to Morro (Bay, Calif. A social meeting was helcfP Friday, Nov. 29. 4-H 4-H Club News The Nimble Thimbells The Nimble Thimbells Sewing club met at the home of Mrs? Frink. The meeting was called to order by President Carolee Kuest. Coleen Franek led in the flag salute and 4-H pledge. The secretary called the roll and read minutes of last meeting. There was no old business. Under new business the motion was made and passed to have reporters from the workshops. Mrs. Frink told us of coming 4-H events for November. Meeting adjourned and re freshments were served by Ruth Daniels, Kristy Chamberlain and Pasty Charley. Next meeting is Dec. 14 at Mrs. Frink's home. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Wilson and daughter, Barbara made a trip to Vallejo, Calif., where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Dave Schneider. Don Miller and Barney Rich ardson of Boise,.. Idaho, were weekend guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Hornseth of Shady Cove. David Easley of Shady Cove has enlisted in the Marines and is now stationed at Camp Pen dleton, Calif.
