The purpose of the program, involving 160 young women, was to observe and assist in the work of various social agencies of Portland. It was alsoitoed that it would stimulate imeresr-in volunteer service after graduation. Medford participants an(1)the agencies they visited are Misses Melva Gebhard and Sally Mon gold, Boys' and Girls Aid So ciety; and Miss Jonna Henson, Family Counselling service. Miss Gebhard, an elementary educa tion major, Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Gebhard, 1519 North Riverside avenue, Griffin Creek Club Announces Film A film entitled "The Inside Story" will be presented at the next meeting of the Griffin Creek School Mother's club, Wednesday, December 4, at 1:2 p.m. in th school cafeteria. Mothers of fifth graders -ill serve refreshments, Mrs. Harold Kanyon and Mrs. Joe Killings worth will be in charge. Baby sitting services fill be provided. and Miss Mongold is a medical technology major and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Mongold, Eagle Point. Belknap of Perry dale was introduced and gave a demonstration on gift wrapping. Corsages were presented to Mrs. Belknap and Mrs. Floyd. The displa9 table contained several arrangements of dried material made by Mrs. Henry Zacharisen and placed in crass bowls. Mrs. L. M. Hamilton dis played a cornucopia of fresh fruits and nuts, Mrs. C. Shores an arrangement of berried shrub branches and M. Arnold of fruit and ijjits around a fresh pineapple. Mrs. Zacharisen was awarded a prize. Other visitors were Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Wimer, Mr. Floyd and Mr. and Mrs. L. C. McMann. Mrs. Belknap, the Wimers and the McManns became members of the club. Mr. and Mrs. Noel Erskine and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Brewold were the serving committee. The tables were decorated with lace mats, berried shrubs and colorful nut cups. O Annua! A ham dinner will be served. Sisters to Hold Annual Election; Luncheon Planned Pythian Sisters will meet Tuesday, Decembft 3, at 8 p.m. at the Pythian building. Past chiefs will be in charge of the opening and closing ceremonies, and Mrs. Dorothy Jack will be initiated. All officers and mem bers are requested to "ar for mal gowns if possible. Members of the staff will practice today at 3 p.m. with the officers. All those who have any part in the initiation service are requested to attend. Election of officers for the new year will be held Tuesday evening during the meeting. Mrs. George Bryant and Mrs. Harry Bryant are in charge of refreshments for the evening. Past Chiefs' club will meet Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Mrs. Don Ross, Ross lane, foi a potluck luncheon. Members are asked to take articles they may have for thebox to be sent to the Pythian home. Contest Continued By Toastmistress Toastmistress club held the third speech contest program at a meeting Monday evening at Girls Community club. Mrs. Effie Kurtz, president, presided; Mrs. Clarence Wilson gave the invo cation and led the flag salute. Mrs. Roy Rolls, toastmistress, introduced the contest speakers. Mrs. Ethel Mclntyre discussed, "This Thing Called Prejudice"; Mrs. Arnold Bohnert followed with "The Diminishing Clan" and Mrs. Clayton Ruhl asked, "Do You Expect a Thank You?" Mrs. Frank Dorigan explained, "Our Golden Trust." Last speak er, Mrs. John W. Marler, gave an interesting history of anes thesia in "Triumph Over Pain." "Fortunes," was the impromp tu speech of the . evening, dis cussed individually by each of the five speakers. Program evaluator was Mrs. Pat Redmond. Mrs. Elmer Ness served as speech evaluator. Timers were Mrs. Kurtz and Mrs. Wallace Haskins. Mrs. Wil son, Mrs. Pat Redmond and Mrs. Harry Marshall acted a tellers. Mrs. Bohnert was given first place and second place went to Mrs. Marler. T& topicmistress, Mrs. Wil son, presented 20 minutes of table-topics dealing with the attributes of human relations and how these are used in the Toastmistress club. Discussed were: good first impressions, good humor, punctuality, loy alty, diplomacy, humility, and social ease. Plans were made for a Christ mas party in the form of a pot luck dinner to be held at the home of Mrs. Wilson, Friday, December 13. Mrs. Rolls and Mrs. Elmer Ness are on the com mittee to assist Mrs. Wilson. 4 Officers Elected By Rebekah Lodge Mrs. Lee Garrett was elected noble grand of Olive Rebekah lodge at the last meeting of the group. Other officers elected were Mrs. R. L. Smith, vice grand; Mrs. Harry Bryant,, re cording secretary; and Mrs. L. F. Cline, financial secretary. Next meeting will be held Monday, December 2, at 8 p.m. Officers will be installed at the January meeting. The Beehive club of the lodge will hold a Christmas party Wednesday, December 11, at 1 p.m. at the home of Mrs. J. D. Brummond. Hostesses for the Monday meeting will be Mrs. Lee Gar rett, Mrs. Esther Coleman, Mrs. Gordon Pasteur, and Mrs. Rich ard Wilson. The Griffin Creek unit has postponed its meeting until Fri day, December 13, at 11 a.m. at the home of Mrs. Glen V. Allen, 981 South Stage roftt. At the meeting a box for a needy fattnily at Christmas time will be packed and decorated. Members are asked to take a covered dish for the luncheon and a gift for the Christmas ex change.
