Mr. Ritchie, who has been attending the recent Portland meetings re-, garding the establishment of a "family day" clarified the posi tion of the denomination. "While we felt it was most gracious of the leaders to invite us to meet with them," Mr. Rit chie stated, "but inasmuch as all Seventh-day Adventist busi nesses are already closed from the hours of sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday and church members do not engage in business pursuits during that time the problem was already solved for our church members." Mr. Ritchie also stated that, while Seventh-day Adventists do not object to any church's reg ulations for its members regard ing the observance of any day, they feel that the present move ment may lead to legislation which they feel is essentially a religious activitiy and would not agree with the denomination's policy of religious liberty for all people regardless of race or creed, and including those who have no religious affiliations.
