GRANDVIEW-LONE PINE Teachers Attend Meeting By LILLIAN KNIGHT Grandview-Lone Pine A teacher's dinner meeting for all teachers of Jackson county was held in the Lone Pine gymna sium Monday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. A turkey dinner "with all the trimmings" was prepared by school cooks Mrs. Carl Verste gen and Mrs. Ivar Hult and was served by PTA members. Mrs. Walter Stroup, Mrs. Earl Rich ardson, Mrs. Eugene Thigtis, Mrs. Manville Heisel and Mrs. Richard Sturgell. There were 69 teachers present. Mrs. Rachl Scheel's third grade students last Wednesday took a guided tour through Jor gensen's dairy on North River side ave., where they watched the processing of milk and the making of ice cream. Mrs. Scheel was assisted by the third grade room mother, Mrs. Cecil Hall. Mr. and Mrs.- Al Miller and and Mrs. Bill Williams of Ar cadia, Calif., returned to their homes after visiting a few days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stokes. While here Miller and Williams went duck hunting in eastern Oregon. Charles Sams, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stokes, who is a pilot for United Air Lines, has been transferred from Chi cago to Los Angeles. He will be visiting at the Stokes home and with other relatives here Thanksgiving. Mrs. Sams has been here the past several weeks with their two boys, Bobby and Mike, visiting with her parents and other relatives. The third polio shot was given at the school last Monday to those students and pre-school children who had received their first two shots last Spring. Dr. Erin Merkle administered the shots and he was assisted by Mrs. William Underwood, health chairman for the Lone Pine PTA, Mrs. Herman (Budd) Mitch ell, Mrs. Eddie Lindstrom and Mrs. Walter Stroup. There will be a four-day Thanksgiving holiday for the Lone Pine school students. They will be released Wednesday af ternoon and will return Monday morning at the usual time. In conjunction with the safety program being conducted in the different schools, Officer Berle Stephens gave a talk at an as sembly Thursday on pedestrian and bicycle safety as children go to and from school. He empha sized that children should not ac cept rides or gifts from stran gers. Emmett Gott, who was hurt in an automobile accident Thurs day morning is recovering rap idly in the hospital and expects to be home by the first of the week. Mr. and Mrs. C. Amel Duwe of Milwaukee, Wis., have pur chased the Howard Huffman place on Springbrook rd. Duwe is a retired school teacher, hav ing taught for over 35 years in and around Milwaukee.
