o SIX MEBfOHfi (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Sunday, November 24, 1357 CENTRAL POINT PTA Holds Regular Meeting Br DOXII HUGHES Central Point The Jewett and Central Point Elementary schools and the Central Point Junior High school Parent Teacher association held the November meeting last Thurs day. The meeting was held in the cafetorium of Jewett school. Maj. Gen. Joseph Hicks, speak er of the evening, was intro duced by Mrs. Alvin Roberts, PTA health and safety chair man. After showing a new Eng lish film on the hydrogen bomb, General Hicks gave a talk on civilian defense. A period for questions and discussion followed. After Mrs. Leo Ghelardi, PTA president closed the meeting, refreshments were served In the back of the cafetorium. The students of Jewett school had decorated the walls with paper turkeys. The Thanksgiv ing motif was also carried out In the table decor. Mrs. Cecil Minor and Mrs. Richard Krupp arranged the centerpiece;' The colors were presented by Den 8 Cub Scouts. Their leader is Mrs. Dominic Tate., The Rev Jean Shelley gave the invoca tion. The first grade mothers were the hostesses for the affair. His folks have since moved to California. Mrs. Frank Bruce returned Saturday from California. Sh had been visiting her folks at Hemet, Calif. Mrs. Bruce's brother is home from Germany on a 30-day furlough. On her return flight, Mrs. Bruce stopped off at San Fernando where she visited Mr. and Mrs Norman Bruce. At the Grange Dr. and Mrs. Bruce Turner left Friday for Corvallis. Dr Turner attended the mid-year dental convention at Eugene Saturday morning. After visiting friends in Corvallis, they went on to Portland, returning home on Monday. The Willow Springs Home Ex tension had a potluck luncheon end meeting Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Archie Purdy of Blue Jay lane. During the meet ing, Mrs. James Semora and Mrs. Roy Colpitts gave a , talk and demonstration- on "standing consumer credit." Eighteen wom en attended. Charles A. Meyer reported that the third polio shot will be given Monday. Children includ ed in this group are students from Jewett school, Central Point elementary, and the junior high school, and pre-school chil dren who are ready for their third shot. - ; Parents of pre-school children are asked to have their young sters in room 1 In the Junior High school by 9 a.m. Room 1 is just inside the north entrance of the junior high school build ing. Dr. Alvin Roberts and Dr. Wayne Roberts .... will be giving the shots. .-, - The Central Point elementary and junior high school will be dismissed -at 2:30 p.m. Wednss day. There, will be no school Thursday of Friday. Tuesday a bridal shower was given at the iome of Mrs. Floyd O Wood, honoring- Miss Mabel Dixon. Miss Dixon, whose wed ding is set for Dec. 22, is the bride elect of Charles Brown of Central Point. She is the daugh ter of Mrs. Florence Dixon of Central Point.- Forty guests at tended the shower.-Mrs..." Harry Hansen and Mrs. Bernice McCue were in charge of entertainment. Fall colors were used in the dec orations. A corsage made by Mrs. William Anhorn was pre sented to the honored guest. Mrs. Stella Purkeypile, who was on her way to visit her niece, Mrs. William Skyrman, of O Tolo rd., was injured in a fall and is in the White Rock District hospital in British Columbia. Mrs. Purkeypile is reported to be recuperating rapidly. She in jured her hip and broke her wrist in the fall. The planning committee for the reunion of the class of 1949 of Central Point met Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Richard Krupp. The group worked on name tags and completed final arrangements for the reunion which will take place Nov. 30 at the Jackson hotel in Medford. The reunion will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a buffet -dinner at 7:30 p.m. The Central Point Home Ex tension met Wednesday for an all-day meeting at the home of Mrs. E. E. Reames at 6236 Cra ter Lake highway. The subject for study was credit buying. A demonstration on it was given by Mrs. Howard Davis and Mrs. Donald Lacy. Mrs. Earl Sands gave a report on the safety fair. Mrs. Paul B. Snook who is a member of the county commit tee, gave a report on the first county meeting. Mrs. Arthur Straus i3 the president of the Central Point Home Extension unit. The Crater High school facul ty wives and women on the fac ulty had a social get-together Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Ronald Lamb of Robin lane. Mrs. Ed Knapp was cohostess. Eighteen persons attended. C.A. Tharp of 347 Taylor rd., who has been in the hospital since Sunday, returned home Friday, He is recuperating from surgery. Week end guests at the C. A. Tharp home were Mr. and Mrs. Bud Orlow of Ft. Lewis, Wash. Third Class Gunners Mate Herb Webber is visiting friends in the Central Point area. He re cently returned from a six months tour aboard the USS Amener. Webber graduated Irom Crater High school in 1954. Brownie troop 119 held the troop birthday party in the Girl Scout room at the school Tues day, Nov. 19. Mary Ellen Kurz brought a decorated cake and Elin Livingston brought the candle cake. Each girl placed a lighted candle on the cake. Vicki Harper and Sherry Marshall were inducted as Brownies and received their Brownie pins from Mrs. Leon Evans, troop committee member. Dorie Mae Grissom received, a two year pin. The following girls received one year pins: Elin Livingston, Alice Minger, Cindy Bartley, Maggie Rowden, Christine Bishop, Christine Evans, Mary Ellen Kurz, Martha Harris and Jill Peek. Games were planned and led by the Monarch Butterfly troop. Refreshments were served by the Meadow Larks and the Blue Jay troop served as the cleanup committee. Patrol leaders for the past six weeks have been Vicki Harper, Cindy Bartley and Christine Evans. Mrs. Everett Grissom, leader, and Mrs. Lloyd Livingston, assistant leader helped the girls with their party. Pierre, S.D. Live Oak Grange Live Oak Grange elected new officers for the coming year at their last regular meeting, Thurs day, Nov. 14. They are Carl Christenson, master; Fred Dengler, overseer; Cassie Golding, lecturer; Joe Golding, steward; Larry Shee han, assistant steward; Jessie Frantz, chaplain; Lyndell Cam eron, treasurer; Belle Strahan, secretary; Phil Strahan, gate keeper; Betty Frantz, Ceres; Mrs. E. Babb, Pomona; Esther Fab rick, Flora; Edna Sheehan, lady assistant steward; and Letsy Miller, Frank Hall and Charles White, executive committeemen. Joint installation of officers from all Jackson county subor dinate Granges will be held at two different sessions in Decem ber. The dates are to be an nounced later. Carl Christenson, speaking for the agricultural committee, re ported a drop in egg prices, but indicated that it would probably be the last drop for some time. Foster Luce, who represented the Grange at a recent meeting of the subdivision ordinance group, stated that there was very strenuous objections to the plan from most rural communi ties and also from various subor dinate Granges. Next Live Oak Grange meet ing will be held December 12. Refreshments during the social hour were served by Mrs. Rol land West. Edna Sheehan, Publicity cards are to be sent with a box of toys and cradle gyms to the Fairview home for retarded chil dren, near Salem. This is a proj ect the ladies of HEC started last Christmas. At the HEC meeting Wednes day, Nov. 20 at the home of Mrs. Harlan Glascock, election of of ficers was held. Mrs. Al Schroe der was reelected chairman and her assistant will be Mrs. Har lan Glascock, secretary, Mrs. Lester Carr, and treasurer, Mrs. Barney Lewin. A potluck dinner was held at noon. Mrs. Olin Poe and Mrs. Thomas Klarin were cohostesses. All members answered roll call with "what I am thankful for." Mrs. Vaughn Quackenbush re quested more articles for the fish pond of which she will be in charge at the carnival this com ing Saturday, Nov. 23. "Final arrangements were made for the turkey dinner to be served in the Grange dining room in connection with the carnival. Serving will start at 5 p.m. Those who have not pur chased tickets may get them at the door Saturday evening. Central Eacde Point Grange The first in a series of sur prise visitations, sponsored by the Jackson county Pomona Grange, was given Eagle Point at their Grange meeting Nov. 19. Granges represented were' Gold Hill, Phoenix, Central Point, Roxy Ann, Upper Apple gate, Griffin Creek, and Upper Rogue, making a total attend ance of 107. The Lecturers program pre ceded the meeting. Miss Irma Penwell, of Medford, gave pan tomine impressions of two popu lar Rock and Roll singers and also gave one of her tap dance routines. Fred Jossy presented a trumpet number accompanied by Miss Georgia Weidman on the piano. Mrs. Jim Edge gave a talk on a recent trip taken into the. southwestern states and showed specimens of cacti and other vegetation grown in the desert. The meeting was called to order by master Cliff Moore. Roscoe Roberts, steward of the Oregon State Grange, was a guest. Honored guests for the evening were Velda Mang, Cen tral Point; Al Sims, of Roxy Ann; Hal Bishop, Gold Hill; Menno Bachman, Upper Apple gate and Dee Hendrickson, Phoe nix, all masters of their respec tive Granges. Committee reports were held to a minimum, with the ways and means reporting a very suc cessful pie social held Saturday evening Nov. 16. Mrs. Paul Force, HEC chairman, announced the next HEC meeting would be held at the home of Mrs. Otis Jones Tuesday, Nov. 26 instead of Wednesday. Nov. 27, due to its closeness to rnanKsgiving. ; All members are asked to attend ; as there will be an election of officers. The display table, prepared by Mrs. Otis Jones, was made up of articles made by Mr. Jones of myrtle wood. It showed an unfinished piece of myrtle wood and how it looks when com pleted. Pomona master, Robert Bitter- ling, announced the installation of new, officers will be held , on two consecutive Sundays, j Dec. 15 and Dec. 22. The first one will be held at Central Point Grange hall and the second one j at Eagle Point. All new officers j should be present at one of the j installations. The . ceremonies will start at 1 pjn. j Refreshments were served aft er the meeting by Mr. and Mrs. Glen Clymer and Mr. and Mrs. Lenn Hickman. Cora Bitterllng, Publicity Griffin Creek Grange Griffin Creek Grange will meet Tuesday, Nov. 16, since the regular meeting date falls on Nov. 28. This will be a potluck dinner served at 6:30 p.m. It will be followed by a program of slide pictures taken by members on their vacations this summer. The newly elected master, Cyril Farnsworth, is expected to ap point committees for the year at that time.
