Y, received a letter from an anorry mous taxpayer admitting he had cheated on his income tax for three successive years, and was so bothered by his conscience, he couldn't sleep. Training Conference Planned for County Cancer Society Group A training conference lor the Jackson county unit of the American Cancer society will be held Thursday, Nov. 21, accord ing to John Dellenback. presi dent of the county unit. Mrs. Earl Lawson is education chair man of the unit. The conference will include volunteers of the cancer society in the county and program chairman of civic and service organizations. It is designed to acquaint them with materials which the chapter has for such groups for education of the gen eral public. Registration will start at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Rogue Val ley Country club. Those in xharge of registration are Mrs. H. R. Parrott. Jacksonville: Mrs. C. E. Long, "Talent; Mrs. F. E. Holt. Ashland; and Mrs. Marvin Kocks, Ashland. The Medford committee will nrovide host esses. Welcome address will be given by Dellenback, Medford. The Rev. Thomas McCamant will present the invocation. Keynote Address Keynote address will be by Mrs. Wilbur J. Falloon, Port land, executive director of the Oregon division. Q. panel on accomplishments in Jackson county will be mod erated by James A. Redden, second vice president, Jackson county unit. Speakers will be &Irs. John S. Day, Medford; Mrs. B. Brandt Bartels, Medford, Lee Ragsdale, Medford; Mrs. Willard L. Huffman, Prospect; Mrs. H. R. Parrott. ' Jacksonville: and Mrs. Fred T. Burich, Medford. Mrs. Ray Frisbie, Medford, member of the Beta Sigma Phi, will speak on services to the community. Harry Skerry, Ashland, first vice president of the Jackson county unit, will moderate a panel on available education ma terials. Other speakers include Mrs. John Baldwin. Talent; Mrs. C. B. Collins, Medford: Dr. Tom Rutter, Medford, and Dr. E. V. Meyerding, Medford. Dr. Robert Turner, Ashland, will serve as panel moderator which includes a list of doctors. They are Dr. Robert Buck. Med ford, pathologist; Dr. R. M. Mayer, Medford, surgeon; Dr. Duane I. Gillum, Ashland, ra diologist; Dr. O. T. Heyerman, Medford, internist; and Dr. R. W. Schwahn, Medford, gynecol- i ogist. When the state government advertised for a blacksmith, three smiths applied for the job. The state has no horses but uses the blacksmith for various types of metal work. Medford Company Purchases Timber McGrew brothers of Medford, purchased the single tract of tim ber offered for sale by the Med ford district of the bureau of land management Nov. 14, the bureau has announced. They offered a high bid of S41.550.05 for the tract, which contains an estimated 2,843,000 board feet of timber south of Mt. Ashland in Jackson county. Lithia Lumber company of Ash land was the unsuccessful bidder. The sale consisted primarily of Shasta red fir and white fir and a small amount of Douglas fir. McGrew brothers' bid was S15.60 per million board feet for the Shasta red fir, S11.30 for the white fir and $23.35 for the Douglas fir. , A tract of an estimated 5,903, 000 board feet located on Pleas ant creek in northwest Jackson county is advertised for gale Nov. 21. Three tracts containing a estimated 15.319,000 board feet are planned for sale on Dec. 19. One tract is located at the head of Mule creek in Curry county, one is near Buck moun tain in Klamath county and the third is near Oregon Caves in Josephine county. There are about 25 million harmonicas in use in the U. S. as many as all other instruments combined. Additional information regard ing these proposed sales may be secured from the district of fice of the bureau in the Medford city hall.
