' 2 i ' r 01 r t r AW i JIM : Mil '-13- fclll T y Mr. and Mrs. Donald Keilh Nichols (Rudy Photo) Nichols-Hattan Marriage Ceremony Held in Idaho Baskets of white chrysanthemums and lighted candles dec orated the Genesee Valley Lutheran church, Genesee Valley, Idaho, for the Sunday, November 10, wedding of Miss Marjorie Ann Hattan and Donald Keith Nichols. The bride, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hattan, Moscow, Idaho, was Jackson county 4-H club agent. Mr. Nichols is a son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Ttichols Jr., Route 1. Box 387, Ashland. The Rev. Sigurd Lokken of f!ciate5 at the double-ring five o'clock afternoon ceremony, o Urt Leon Danielson played the organ wedding music and Miss Karen Danielson was soloist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor length white taffeta gown styled on princess lines with front panel of chantilly lace and flared skirt terminating in a chapel train. A narrow stand up collar outlined the neckline (nd continued to the waist Inhere it fastened with self cov ered buttons to form a v. Her fingertip length veil of silk il lusion fell from a cap of lace which was trimmed with irides cent sequins and seed pearls, iter crescent shaped bridal bou- jt was of white and red roses. Miss Carol Hattan was honor (attendant for her sister. Brides anaids were Miss Charlotte Sol berf , Lewiston, Idaho, and Miss 'Eolerea Uria, La Grande, Ore. 'They wore dresses of chiffon 'taffeta and carried bouquets of Fuji chrysanthemums to match the dresses and had baby chry santhemums in their hair. Miss Hattan's dress was ruby with the bridesmaids in rose. Little Laurie Hattan was flow er girl for her aunt. She wore a pink crystalline frock. Candle lighter was Divid Walter. Robert Wallis, Ashland, served as best man and seating the guests were Harold Hattan, brother of the bride, and Glenn Klein, Medford. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Hattan chose a blue suit with pink accessories. Mrs. Nichols wore a blue lace dress with winter white accessories. They both had pink rosebud corsages. Following the ceremony a re ception was held at the church parlors. Mrs. Robert Wallis, Ashland, and Mrs. Howard Hat tan cut and served the wedding cake and Mrs. Lawrence Barger, Ashland, poured the punch. Mrs. Harry Hattan, Pullman, Wash., Miss Mary Rentz, Willard Conley Set Wedding Day Mr. and Mrs. Louis L. Rentz announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Mary Annette, to Wil lard F. Conley at a cocktail party at their home, 1925 Sunset drive, Thursday evening. The party also celebrated Mr. Con leys birthday. Sixty guests attended. Mr. Conley is a son of Mrs. James C. Johnson, San Diego, Calif., and Willard Conley, Hia leah, Fla. The wedding will take place December 27 at Sacred Heart Catholic church here. Miss Rentz attended St. Mary's school, Medford, Notre Dame college. Belmont. Calif., and is a graduate of the Louise Saling er School of Dress Design, San Francisco. Since January, 1954, she has been an instructor in the Colleen Hope dance studio here. Mr. Conley attended San Diego State college and has done graduate work 'at Scripps insti tute, La Jolla, Calif. He will enroll later this year at San Francisco State college to study towards a "doctorate in educa tion and physics. He is a mem ber of Kappa Sigma fraternity, Sigma Pi Sigma honor society and the National Physical society. i r Illl'V Pf Mrs. Irby Walter, Bonners Fer ry, Idaho, Miss Anne Morten son and Miss Ruth Mortenson, Seattle, poured the coffee. Among the out-of-town guests attending the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. George Nichols, par ents of the bridegroom, Mrs. Jessie Owens, Mrs. Lawrence Barger and sons, David and Dale all Ashland. The couple will make their home in Ashland about Decem ber 1, when they return from a wedding trip. For her travel ing attire the bride wore an en semble of crepe and tweed in blues and browns and the red rosebud corsage from her bridal bouquet. The bride is a graduate of the University of Idaho where she received her bachelor of science degree and was home demon stration agent at Bonners Ferry, Idaho, for two years prior to her arrival in Medford. She is a member of Phi Upsilon Omi cron, national 1 ome economics honorary fraternity. Mr. Nichols received his bachelor of science degree from Oregon State college in animal husbandry and is a cattleman engaged in, the raising of regis tered hereford cattle near Ash land. He is a member of Alpha Gamma Rho, social fraternity and is active in many county wide agricultural organizations. C The Fashionette Secretary of State Mark Hatfield and Miss Antoinette Marie Kuzmanich are pictured here during a dinner Saturday, November 9, at which their engagement was announced. The dinner was held in Portland following the Oregon-Washington football game. Secretary Hatfield was formerly on the faculty of Willamette university; Miss Kuzmanich is counselor of women at Portland State college. The wedding will be next July. Across from Craterian Medford Compositions of Local Musicians To Be On Program Compositions by two Medford musicians will be on the pro gram for the concert which the Philharmonic Society of South ern Oregon will give Sunday, November 24, at the Medford High school auditorium. The orchestra will play one moyemento f an orchestral suite composed by Roy H. Schweiger, and a processional by Albert Huntemann. Mr. Schwieger came here from southern California a short time ago to make his home with a son, George H. Schwieg er, and Mr. Huntemann is dir ector of the band of McLoughlin Junior High school. Mr. Schwie ger, who has many years experi ence as a pianist and conductor, was at one time associated with Warner Brothers studio in Holly wood as a composer and arrang er. Also on the program for the concert next Sunday, first of the season for the orchestra, will be Schubert's "Third Symphony and "Iphigenia In Aulis" by Gluck. Richard D. Werner is conduc tor of the orchestra. Pechners to Come From Mid-East For Thanksgiving Butte Falls Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Pechner of Butte Falls are returning from Turkey to spend the Thanksgiving holidays with Mrs. Pechner's parents. Mrs. Pechner is the former Mau rine A. Green of Medford. daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy H. Green, Butte Falls. The Pechners have resided in various countries of the Middle East in the past eight years, re turning home periddically for short vacations. Mrs. Pechner was at home briefly in 1956, leaving to join her husband in Iraq in August of that year. Mr. Pechner's as signment in Iraq was finished in October of 1956, and the Pech ners moved to Turkey. In the past year Mrs. Pech ner has journeyed to Athens twice, spent a 30-day vacation at Saas Fe, Switzerland, visited Amsterdam, accompanied her husband to Beirut, Lebanon where he underwent surgery at the American university hospit al. They were there in time to witness the election day riots. The Pechners will return to Turkey via the Polar route on December 10th. Mrs. Pechner will return again to Medford in June of 1958 to attend her parents golden wed ding anniversary. Mr. Pechner is an engineer with a firm of consultants oper ating out of New York City. Farewell Parties Honor Couples Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Peter son, 523 Fairmont street, have been honored recently at a number of farewell parties. Mr. Peterson is being transferred from the Medford office of the United States Bureau of Land Management to the area office in Portland. The staff of the local office gave a dinner and dance at the Jackson hotel which honored the Petersons, Mr. and Mrs. Murl Storms and Mr. and Mrs. Her bert Haglund. Mr. Storms and Mr. Haglund are being trans ferred to the state office in Port land. The honored guests were presented gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Conger gave a dinner for the Petersons, inviting eight couples at their home in Ross. lane. Last Monday Mrs. Val Find ley gave a bridge party in honor of Mrs. Peterson. Two tables of bridge were played at the Findley's home in Reddy ave. Mrs. David Lowry and Mrs. Clarke Thomas were hostesses for a luncheon and bridge party which honored Mrs. Peterson. The event was Thursday at the Thomas home on Jacksonville highway, with 12 attending. Mr. Peterson left Saturday for Portland. Mrs. Peterson and their son, Alan, will leave later. The Haglunds and Storms have already left for Portland. Hostesses Give Shower Party For Miss Walker Gold Hill Miss Dixie Lee Walker was honored Tuesday evening at a bridal shower given in the home extension clubroom of Gold Hill Grange hall. Host esses were Mrs. Lester Parker, Mrs. William Force, Mrs. Wil mer Bailey, Mrs. Charles E. Rosecran and Mrs. Clyde Kell, all Gold Hill, and Mrs. Fred Baker, Medford. About 70 guests attended from Medford, Central Point, Rogue River and Tacoma, Wash., in ad dition to those from Gold Hill. Miss Walker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delos Walker, Gold Hill, is to be married to Fred Herrmann, son of Mrs. Mary Herrmann, Central Point, No vember 30 in St. Peter's Luther an church, Medford. Miss Katherine Coe, Central Point and Miss Helen Hood, Gold Hill were ii charge of the bridal shower guest book and gift table. They were assisted by Miss Judi Davis, Central Point, who placed the gifts as they were received on a lace covered table decorated with clusters of silver wedding bells. She was as sisted by two close friends, Miss Coe and Miss Hood, who wrote the gift list for her. Couples Attend Harvard Meetings Mr. and Mrs. Alfred S. V. Carpenter, Topsides, Old Stage road, have returned from San Francisco where they attended a series of events given for west ern residents interested in Har vard college. Mr. Carpenter is a Harvard alumnus. The Carpenters were guests at a dinner given for Nathan Pusey, president of Harvard uni versity, and Mrs. Pusey, and at which Mr. and Mrs. Alexander White of New York City were also guests. Mr. White heads a committee which is endeavoring to raise a large sum of money for Harvard college. Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter and another Medford couple, Mr., and Mrs. Dunbar Carpenter, were among 600 persons who attended a "kick-off dinner at the Fairmont hotel in connection with the fund-raising campaign. Alaskans Arrive For Visit Here Mr. and Mrs. Fred Copsey, Kodiak, Alaska, are visiting Mrs. Copsey's mother, Mrs. Clay ton Walker, 129 North Oakdale avenue, Medford, and other rela tives and friends in the valley. The Copseys arrived in Med ford by plane Tuesday and plan to remain here through Thurs day, Nov. 21. Mr. Copsey is employed by the civil service with the U.S. Navy in Alaska. The three Copsey children did not travel to Medford this time as they visited their grandmoth er here last summer. Couple to Take Winter Cruise Mrs. C. I. Drummond, 2909 East Fairview place, left Saturday for Tacoma, Wash., and Milwaukee, Wise. In Tacoma she will meet her mother, Mrs. L. C. Oberlies, and the two will continue to Milwaukee to visit Mrs. Drum mond's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Alan Riegelman, and their four children, Penney, Tommy, Peter and Sarah. Sarah, youngest of the children, was born earlier this month. Dr. Drummond will leave No vember 25 to join his wife and Mrs. Oberlies at New Orleans and the three will make a 42-day cruise on the Del Norte to Buenos Aires. Dr. Drummond's mother, Mrs. C. C. Drummond, is spending the winter in San Mateo, Calif., with another son, Dr. L. L. Drummond, and the couple's son, David, a student, will travel south at holiday time to visit his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Grgich, in Santa Barbara, Calif. Shriners' Wives Announce Supper A buffet supper for Shriner's wives will be held Monday, No vember 18, at 6:30 p.m. at the Jackson hotel. The supper will be followed by cards. For reser vations call SPring 2-6569 not later than Monday morning. Miss Pat Medley Tourney Winner Miss Pat Medley, 1530 West Main street, Medford, a fresh man speech major at Pacific uni versity, Forest Grove, won two second places in the college for ensic tournament held recently at Pacific Lutheran college, Ta coma. Wash. Miss Medley placed in both the junior division of interpre tive speaking and was on the team in the junior women's de bate division. More than 15 schools and 175 students from Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, took part in the competition. The freshman was recently appointed to the staff of the uni versity's paper, Index. She was one of the students selected fol lowing an examination in news writing vgiven freshman journal ism students. Miss Medley is also secretary of her freshman class. Visit Parents Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. Kauf man visited at the home of Mrs. Kaufman's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Russell, 120 Newtown ave nue, Medford. Mr. Kaufman was recently discharged from the U.S. Navy at Pensacola, Fla. The couple will make their home in Portland where he plans to continue his college education.
