Style changes, and engineering and design advances are noticeable in the new models. The Fairlane 500 Town Victoria, right, and Fairlane Club Victoria, left, include such styling changes as new safety dual headlights, corrosion-proof anodized alum inum grille, power flow hood, slip stream roof, sculptured inverted V trunk lid and two safety taillights. Engineering and design ad vances include new engines, new Cruise-O-Matic transmission and optional Ford-Aire suspension. Twenty-one new models in five ' series are offered in 1958 Ford car line. Eisenhowers Hope To Visit London, Other European Capitals Washington (W President and Mrs. Eisenhower hope to visit London and other European capitals next year. Sources close to the White House disclosed the first family is trying to make arrangements for the trip. Q Such a tour would be in line with the President's desire to draw the United State and Eu ropean nations closer together to meet the onrush of Russian sci (efice and military power. Eisenhower will go to Paris next month to attend a "summit" conference of North Atlantic Treaty Nations to tackle ways of (8-hieving greater Western unity. He is our President.- Barring death, or in capacitation, or the unthinkable catastrophe of impeachment, he will remain our President for three more years. This three-year period may well prove to be the most critical, period of our his- So Q There is No ONE ELSE to provide the leadership we must have. Congress has MANY able and patriotic men. But leader ship in periods of crisis is a ONE MAN business. All history shouts that lesson. PRESIDENT Eisenhower has the background and the qual ities that are required. He is the world's best-known soldier. He holds the PERSONAL con fidence of his countrymen and of all the world. NO ONE doubts his integrity. And Better thaianyone else Ike is qualified for one-man leadership, for no one suspects him of POWER ambitions. No one could even tnink of him as the "Man on Horseback." IF PRESIDENT Eisenhower is to assume the position of leadership that is so clearly (led for, he must 1. Forget politics. 2. Forget all about WHO WILL WIN in 1960. 3. Think ONLY of the welfare of our country. 4. Be firm, even GRIM, if necessary, in his judgment of the capabilities of the men to whom he must delegate authority. WILL the peoie support him in such a course? I think they will. There can be no denying that through much of this first year of his second term President Eisenhower's standing as a lead er has suffered in the estimation of many people. There have been times when his leadership has seemed to be inept as in the case of his budget. On occasions, -Je defended it. On jher days, Mie seemed almost to apologize for it. O The people have excused him for that. They have held POLI TICS to be largely responsible, and they have excused the Presi dent for his poltical shortcom ings, feeling that he is a SOL DIER, with a soldier's training, and has no liking for the ways of politics. B UT A new mood is abroad in our land- There is a feeling that dangers are threatening us that never threatened before." These dan gers, our people feel, fall within the field that is President Eisen hower's specialty. If he will assert the kind of leadership that people WANT in this emergency, the people will follow him unhesitatingly. Prime Minister Harold Macmil lan visited the U. S. last month and met with the President. In meeting with them, Eisen hower stressed the need for greater Anglo-American cooper ation to meet Russia's challenge in the new space-missile age. Plans Disclosed Disclosure that arrangements were underway to try to set up the European tour came after it was brought out that Eisenhower probably would not go to Lon don following the Paris NATO meeting. The British touched off a trans-Atlantic exchange Wednes day with an announcement that the President had been forced to defer a proposed December visit because of Mrs. Eisenhower's health. Acting White House Press Sec retary Anne Wheaton, asked if there was any basis for the Lon don statements, said flatly: "None whatever." She said the President's cur rent plan to confine his Decem ber visit to France had to do with his heavy schedule and not the condition of Mrs. Eisen hower's health. Definite Answer Asked whether Mrs. Eisen hower was ill, Mrs. Wheaton re plied: "No." The first lady, who underwent an operation Aug. 6, has been more active in recent days than in a long time. Mrs. Eisenhower, unaware of the trans-Atlantic exchange, said Wednesday morning she was "feeling fine" when she ap peared at a benefit bazaar. But she added she still "can t do too much walking." Her remarks suggested that she tires some wnat easily and is under doctor's orders to avoid strenuous exer cise. London newspapers said today Mrs. Eisenhower's health was not the reason for putting off the visit. The strongest statement was made by the Labor Party's Daily Herald which said Queen Elizabeth was "hurt" by the President's decision. The Herald said the President called off his trip to Britain be cause he feared criticism that he was "too much in England's pocket." Cove Junction Man Dies in Auto Wreck Grants Pass IIP! Clyde E. McNeil, about 40, Cave Junc tion, was killed Wednesday when his car falied to make a curve on the Redwood highway south west, of here. McNeil was alone in the car. Police said the vehicle over turned several times after it left the road. A wife and three child ren survive. WRONG GROUND Plattsburg, N.Y. (IP) City of ficials told Francis Skiff that his house was being built on muni cipal airport property through a deed error. Skiff said that was bad enough, but he had already sold 8 portion of the misdeeded property to another ma who was also building house. Truman rGladr To See Ike Turning To Bipartisan Policy Palrn Springs, Calif. (IP) Former President Harry S. Tru man says he is "very glad" the Eisenhower administration has "awakened to the fact that we need a bipartisan foreign policy." Truman's remark came at a press conference Wednesday when it was noted that Secretary of State John Foster Dulles had called in former Truman ad ministration officials for an extraordinary special meeting. Would Be Good Plan "It would be a good plan to to restore lhe bipartisan foreign policy which had been effect while I was in the White House and while President Roosevelt was there and which has been thrown to the winds by the pre sent administration," he said. "You see," Truman explained, "Mr. Dulles was part of that bi partisan foreign policy of mine, but apparently it didn't take. He made the statement when he went in that there should be an agonizing reappraisal. Well, we ve received tne agony an right, and now perhaps we are going to get the reappraisal." Not Consulted Truman said he was not notified or consulted on Wednes day's State Department meeting. He said he has always believed that "partisanship should stop at the water's edge," but added that the policy since 1953, when the Republican administration took over, has been "strictly partisan and that's wrong." "The foreign policy of the United States should represent the full country without regard to the political faith of the man who is making it," Truman add ed. "Nobody can make the foreign policy of the United States but the President." Truman and his wife, Bess, will leave for Independence, Mo., today after being guests of form er Gov. Mon Wallgren of Wash ington at his desert home here.
