r Thursday, October 31, 1937 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Canadian Plans To Seek Australia's Lost Diamond Mine A 3 V W J-; Svdnev TO A Canadian- bom multi-millionaire clans to search for "Australia's hidden El Dorado" diamond mines worth an estimated 5100,500,000. Dr. John Williamson, whose diamond mines at Tanganyika, East Africa, are reputed to be the world"s richest, said he will return to Australia soon. He pro poses to join forces with a sya nev diamond merchant, Jules Jorls, in a diamond search near Copeton, 300 miles north of Syd ney, and at Wellington, 150 miles northwest of Sydney. Williamson said he will use the same search methods which helped him discover a $100,000, 000 Tanganyika diamond mine. River Diamonds Joris owns an alluvial diamond field at Copeton. It yields only industrial diamonds and William son and Joris will endeavor to discover the hidden main source of the Copeton diamonds. Local diamond mining experts believe the source is about 20 miles east of Copeton. Joris be lieves the mine could be worth $100,500,000. if thev find It. Williamson recently returned to his home in Tanganyika, after a brief visit to Sydney, during which he finalized plans for the searches later this year. "Williamson said he was also "deeply impressed" when shown alluvial diamonds dredged from the Macquarie river near Well ington. He said he will also try to discover their source when he returns. Calm Reaction Wellington people took the news of Williamson's interest in their diamonds calmly. "We have known there were diamonds in the river for many years," sid Rupert Christie, president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce.
