Actress Anna Kashfi, who married Marlon Brando last Fri day in nearby Eagle Rock, as sured the world that, by golly, she was an Indian from Calcutta after all and put an end to spec ulation that she was a Wales lass in disguise. Miss Kashfi and Brando re turned from a four-day honey moon Wednesday and issued a statement one which the ac tress assured was going to be her last attempt to clear up the much-discussed question of her parentage. "I was born In Calcutta, In dia, to my Indian parents, Devi Kashfi, a civil engineer and architect, and Selma Ghose, on Sept. 30, 1934," she said in a statement. "When I was 16 my mother remarried William Patrick O'Callaghan. I acquired their name and used 'it as my legal name on my first trip to England in 1952. I returned to India briefly thereafter and then went back to London. Two years ago I came to this country as a non immigrant visitor on petition by Loew's, Incorporated." Mojave To Lose Marine Activity Washington (IP) The Navy announced Wednesday that ac tivities at the Marine Corps Aux iliary Air- Station to Mojave, Calif., will be shifted to Vincent Air Force1 Base at Yuma, Ariz. The Navy said the move would save $81 million in mod ernization costs required at Mo jave. It said the Air Force made Vincent available as a result of joint reviews on air field needs which were "conducted in an effort to reduce new construc tion in the interest of economy." The Navy expects the transfer to be made in the first half of 1959. Civilian employees will either be transferred or released. Plans call for the eventual disposal of the Mojave base as an air field, the Navy said. The Air Force said that its personnel at Vincent will be transferred to other installations. Arthur Younger (R-Cal.), told the closing session of the National Savings and Loan league's fall management Con ference Wednesday that Con gress would boost GI home loan interest rates next year if vet erans indicate they want such action. Younger said Congress failed to act upon President Eisenhow er's request for such a rate in crease at the last session large ly because of the indifference shown by veterans. Younger said that "As a result of the low GI interest rate, in vestment funds have been sharp ly curtailed for the veterans housing program." However, he said the Ameri can Legion has now urged that the Veterans Administration be given the same discretionary authority to set interest rates as is now given the commission er of the Federal Housing administration.
