By Director "The Wooden Dish" is a real challenge to the Footlighters and other actors and actresses in the Medford area," Director Richard Graham said today. "The problem presented in the play is an unusual one yet could happen to almost everyone." Mr: Graham added," "We would like to have every actor and actress turn out for casting at 8 p.m., October 14 and 15. Frankly though, I would also like to tell everyone that this is not a Noel Cowardish type of play. We need actors who are not reactors. "A brief thumbnail sketch of the characters might best illus trate what I mean. Pop, the male lead, is a peppery old man still fighting the past, in the present and the future. Glenn, his son, is big but ineffectual. Floyd, the other son, is a stuffy never - quite - made - it business type." The director checked his cast ing list, and added, "Sam, Pop's best friend, is mellowed by his years and hopeful. Ed, that's the boarder, reminds me of the milkman in 'Come Back Little Sheba.' Mr. Forsythe is the oily type The female lead is Clara who is not old but has let her self go a bit. She's the gal who can't get into last year's girdle. Bessie, the second lead, has 'gone.' Susan, the daughter of the house, is young, about nine teen, and learns quickly that life is not as sweet as young dreams might have it be. "Janey, Susan's friend, is a year younger in age and much more in understanding. That's the cast and I might add that those who would prefer trying out by reading from something they are familiar with rather than cold from 'The Wooden Dish' are invited to do so. All we ask is that they come out prepared to work." Mr. Graham also stated that production of the play was scheduled for December 3-7. Re hearsals will be three times a week, at the cast's conveni ence, except during Thanksgiv ing week. Dress rehearsal will be December 2. 1 Garden Club Shady Cove Shady Cove Garden club will meet Monday October 14, at the home of Mrs. Max Hawks.
