Fire prevention is everynes responsibility and only by a con scientious effort can people rid their homes of the ordinary haz ards which are the cause of most fires, Barker said. National Fire Prevention week seeks to eliminate ordinary haz ards which cause 90 per cent of all fires, according to the Na tional Fire Protection associa tion. Barker listed several items as good fire prevention habits. They include regular inspection and cleaning of chimneys; repairing and keeping clean heating units; enough electric outlets, replace ment of worn extension cords and repairment of all electrical equipment at the first sign of trouble; keep matches out of the reach of children and to be care ful with all lighted objects; turn in rags, papers and magazines for salvage and keep closets, at tics and basements clean.
