SIX MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Duplicate Club Names Winners Bartlett Duplicate, Bridge club, affiliated with the Ameri can Contract Bridge league, met Monday at the Girls Community club. First place in the north-south position was won by Mrs. Rob ert Elliott and Mrs. Elliott Har low, with Mrs. V. T. Nicoletti and Mrs. James Finnegan first in the east-west position. Other players for the north south position were Mrs. Martin Vorheis and Mrs. R. B. Thierolf, second; and Mrs. E. F. Bolt and Mrs. F. E. Bowman, third. With the east-west position were Mrs. David Lowry and Mrs. William Cowning, second; Mrs. Nils Edin and Mrs. Lawrence Buonocore, third; and Mrs. Glen Harrison and Mrs. Robert Morris, fourth. Anyone interested in learning to play duplicate bridge or needing a partner are asked to call SPring 2-8185. Play is held at 12:40 p.m. each Monday. Mistletoe Club Plans Meeting Wednesday Mistletoe club will meet Wednesday, October 9, at 10 a.m. in the Girls Community club to do bazaar work. Mr. Gann is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Elie Gann, 739 Beacon avenue, Medford, and has been making his home at 819 North Central avenue. The couple were married Sat urday, September 28, at two o'clock in the afternoon at the West Main Church of Christ. The Rev. H. O. Martin of the Church of Christ officiated at the ceremony. For her wedding the bride wore a pink suit with brown ac cessories. Her corsage was of or chids. She was attended by a cousin, Mrs. Roy Patton, of Sams Valley, who wore a brown suit with brown and pink accessories and a corsage of pink rosebuds. Roy Patton served as best man. The bride is a graduate of Cra ter High school and has been employed as a deputy county clerk in the Jackson county dis trict court. The bridegroom at tended Conway High school and is employed by John Wheeler. Libraries Topic For DAR Chapter Crater Lake chapter, Daugh ters of the American Revolution held their first fall meeting at the home of Mrs. R. E. Green, Saturday, September 28. A pot luck luncheon was served prior to the meeting. Mrs. Leland A. Mentzer, mem ber of the library board, spoke jon the public library and its service and administration m the county. She stated that there is a shortage of trained librarians in the nation and told of the re quirements for librarians in Ore gon. Mrs. Edward Root spoke on reading material in the Ameri can colonies and mentioned that Benjamin Franklin is credited with the establishment of pub lic libraries. She also mentioned that Franklin's magazines and papers were credited for the in terest in more and varied read ing 'material. . Mrs. G. O. Taylor and Mrs. B. G. Harding assisted Mrs. Green as hostess. Bridge Classes To Be Held at Y Bridge classes for beginners will start Tuesday, October 8, at the YMCA social hall at 2 p.m. The classes, a series of 10 ses sions, will be held Tuesday and Thursday from 2 until 4 p.m. and be the Goren count method. There will be no charge to Y members. For information re garding the classes, interested persons should call the Y. filEDFOROrORKOfl Gardeners See Films Of Europe Mrs. Frank Perl was main speaker for a meeting of Med ford Garden club Thursday at the Courthouse auditorium. Mrs. Perl spoke about her trip to the European countries and showed pictures. She was especially impressed with the beautiful formal gard ens and said people were kind arid gracious to her. Mrs. E. M. Wallin gave a short talk on bulb culture, stressing that good condition of the soil determines the quality of next year blooms. Mrs. O. A. Floyd, president of Oregon Federation of Garden clubs, was introduced by Mrs. Gerald VonTing, club president. Mrs. I. D. Fitzgerald, district di rector, was also introduced. Other guests introduced were Mrs. H. C. Meyers, Mrs. John Wisely and Mrs. Harold Allen of Central Point Garden club, Mrs. Iris Bohnsack of Traer, Iowa, Mrs. Arlene Robertson, Mrs. Claude V. Cooper, Mrs. F.. J. Ahlstrom, Mrs. Frances Thomp son, Mrs. Cora True and Mrs. Mae Russell of Ashland Garden club. A large class of new members was taken into the club. Ekerson and Mrs. John Mansfield were elected vot ing delegates to the district con vention. The tea table, was decorated by Mrs. Harry Morrow with an arrangement of white gladiolus with tinting of blue. Tea chairman for the social hour was Mrs. R. H. Peterson, assisted by Mrs. Goff, Mrs. Mor row and Mrs. C. H. Pence. A special meeting of Medford Garden club is to be held at the Courthouse auditorium October 14 at 10 a.m. The newly adopted by-laws of Oregon Federation of Garden clubs will be discussed. Sewing Club Plans Meeting Thursday; Dinner Announced The Sewing club of the Cra ter Lake, auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will meet Thurs day, October 10, at 12:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. B. B. Ram sey, 27 Summitt avenue. At the last meeting of the group it was decided to start the projects for the Christmas bazaar. The next meeting of the aux iliary will be held Tuesday, Oc tober 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the Vet erans of Foreign Wars hall, 42 North Front street. A potulck dinner will be held and mem bers having October birthdays will be honored. At the last meeting of the auxiliary, Mrs. Amy Randle, Camp White hospital chairman, reported that the group was to help with the Halloween party fish pond booth at Camp White, October 25. Past Presidents club will meet in November, for a Christmas party and potluck dinner. To Plan Party Olive Rebekah lodge will meet Monday, October 7, at 8 p.m in the Odd Fellows hall. Plans will be made for the bazaar and card party to be held October 31. Mesdames Irene Shirley, Agnes Furch, John Poage and L. F. Cline will be hostesses for Monday's meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Church .Ceremony Marries Marilyn Cook, Rex Goble Miss Marilyn Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Cook, 674 Midway road, Medford, be came the bride of Rex Goble, son of Mrs. Grace Goble, 725 Oak street, in a ceremony held Friday, September 13, at First Assembly of God church. The Rev. Raymond W. Hum of First Church of the Nazarene officated at the double ring ceremony assisted by the Rev. Robert Cull, of the First As sembly of God church. More than 250 relatives and friends attended the eight o'clock even ing ceremony. Large baskets of white glad iolus and daisies and ferns dec orated the church for the wed ding. Mrs. George Hiede played the traditional organ wedding music and accompanied Lee Mansveld, who sang. Given in marriage by her fath er, the bride wore a floor length gown of., white rosepoint lace and tulle fashioned with fitted lace bodice and peplum and full tulle skirt. She carried a bou quet of white carnations encir cling a white orchid. Before walking to the altar the bride sang "Whither Thou Goest." Mrs. Wayne Hunt, Watson ville, Calif., was matron of hon or for her sister. She wore a lavender organdy frock and car ried yellow carnations. Other at tendants were Miss Betty Lou Cook, sister of the bride, and Mrs. Melvin Johnson. They wore yellow organdy frocks and car ried lavender carnations. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Cook chose a powder blue lace and crepe dress with navy blue accessories. Mrs. Goble wore a blue-green crepe dress with white accessories. They both had lavender orchid corsages. Following the ceremony a re ception was held in the church annex. Mrs. Evan Rasmussen and Mrs. Al Dollarhide cut and serv ed the wedding cake while Mrs. Alfred Bendickson and Mrs. John Gibson poured the punch. Miss Claudine Edwards was in charge of the guest book and Miss Eva Goble and Miss Ruth Goble, sisters of the bridegroom, were at the gift table. The newlyweds traveled to the coast on their wedding trip. For her traveling attire the bride chose a black sheath with short jacket and a white orchid cor sage. They are making their home at 215 North Ivy street, Medford. The bride is a graduate of Medford High, school and is a dental assistant for Dr. J. W. Burba. The bridegroom is a graduate of Medford High school. Flower pots can be water proofed by dipping them in melt ed paraffin and allowing the paraffin to sink into the pot's pores. SP 2-7169 Reception To Be Held In Gold Hill Gold Hill Trie annual com munity reception for teachers and personnel of Crater High, Patrick and Hanby schools will be held Wednesday, October 30, at 8 p.m. in the Odd Fellows hall, according to officials of Ametriyst Rebekah lodge, the sponsoring organization. Mrs. Walter McLean has been named chairman for the occa sion. She has announced that the theme for the costumes this year will be "nursery rhyme." All adults in the community are in vited .to participate in this af fair, even though they are not a member of any. local organiza tion. The teachers' reception is one of the largest social affairs held in Gold Hill each year. The Rebekah lodge is assisted each year by several other local organizations. They are the Odd Fellows lodge No. 129, Gold Hill Grange, Gold Hill Health unit, Gold Hill Garden club, Gold Hill Parent Teacher asso ciation, VFW Post 7417, Gold Hill Lions' club and Amethyst Rebekah Friendship club. Each organization nartirinat- ing will contribute a skit to wards the evening's entertain ment. A representative from each or ganization will be named to serve on the entertainment, kitchen and decorating commit tees. At a meeting of Amethyst lodge Wednesday evening, plans were made for the teachers re ception. Mrs. Lester Parker, no ble grand, presided at the busi ness meeting. Prior to the opening of lodge, special music was provided by two local youngsters. Shirley Kell sang a solo accompanied by Richard Herrington on his gui tar. Following this, each child presented an individual solo of their choice. The program was" arranged by Mrs. F. G. Herring- ton. Members of .Amethyst lodge received an invitation to attendj friendship night of Mountaineer Rebekah lodge in Glendale Thursday, October 17, at 8 p.m Mrs. Paul Thompson was nam ed to represent the lodge on the decorating committee for the teachers' reception.
