Citations Issued Medford po lice cited drivers of two vehicles after an accident Friday after noon at the intersection of Table Rock and Merriman rds. Drivers were Robert Simpson Webber, 794 Marshall ave., Medford, and Bill Alan Wood, route 1, box 92, Eagle Point. Police cited Webber for failure to yield the right of way, and Wood was cited for having no operator's license. Flag With 46 Stars To Fly in Massachusetts North Egremont, Mass. An American flag with only 46 stars soon will fly from a new flagpole on the village green. The flag was made between 1907, when Oklahoma became the 46th state, and 1912 when New Mex ico and then Arizona gained statehood. It was presented to the town by the late Mrs. George Peck. Wilmont, the former Mrs. Harry R. Crume, who died Thursday, will be held in Conger-Morris Chapel Monday at 10 a.m. The Rev. John D. Trude of the S e v e n t h-Day Adventist church of Medford will officiate. Committal will be in Siskiyou Memorial park. JAMES F. KEETON Funeral services for James F. Keeton, 50, of 506 Union ave., who died Friday, will be held in Conger-Morris chapel Tues day at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. W. D. Turnbull, of the Jacksonville As sembly of God church, will offi ciate. Committal will be in Sis kiyou Memorial park. Keeton was born July 17, 1907, in Paola, Kan., and had lived in southern Oregon for the past 17 years. He was married Sept. 26, 1948, in Medford, to Dorothy, Hays, who survives. Other survivors include four sons, Tommy, Michael, Jimmy, and Donald, all at home; a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Green, Central Point; a brother, Clif ford A. Keeton, Medford; and two uncles, Jack Keeton, New York; and Charles Keeton, Kan. Before coming here he was superintendent of Roseburg schools. He later moved to San Francisco, Calif, where he taught until his retirement. He had been active in public schools for 50 years. Smith was born Feb. 4 1882, in California, Mo., the son of William U. and Luvina Smith. He came to Joseph, Ore., as principal of Joseph schools in 1907. He was married to Nelle Downey on July 15, 1908. While living in Medford he was an active member of the First Baptist church and a char ter member of the Medford Ki wanis club. Survivors include his wife, Nelle D. Smith, San Francisco; three sons, Max E. Smith, Las Vegas, Nev., Aubrey G. Smith Jr., Menlo Park, Calif., and Baird K. Smith, Fresno, Calif.; and one sister, Mrs. Ethel S. La tham, Medford. Funeral services will be held in the N. Gray company funeral home, San Francisco, at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in the Alta Mesa cemetery, Palo Alto, Calif. - f MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE -FTFTEEIf TURNCOAT'S WIFE ARRIVES Tanya Hawkins, 25, wife of Samuel D. Hawkins of Oklahoma City, gets her first look at the San Francisco skyline as she arrives from China aboard the SS President Wilson. Hawkins, who was taken prisoner by the Reds in Korea, war one of the turn coats who returned home earlier this year. He met and married Tanya, a White Russian who was born in Har bin, Manchuria, while he was in Communist China. Tanya is on her way to join him in Oklahoma City. VELMA E. WILMONT Services for Mrs. Velma E. Wilmont, who died in El Cajon, Calif., Wednesday, will be held in the Conger-Morris chapel Monday at 1& a.m. Elder John D. Trude of the Seventh-Day Adventist church will officiate. Burial will be in Siskiyou Memorial park. Mrs. Wilmont was born in Boise, Ida., May 11, 1904. On May 28, 1956 in Yuma, Arizona, she was married to David Wil mont, who survives her. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Robert Floyd, San Diego; three brothers, Ar thur Sallee, Dorena, Oral Sallee, Camas Valley, and Melvin Sal lee, Newport, and one granddaughter. Fish-Saving Proposals Made Sacramento (IP) The Califor nia Department of Fish and Game has offered three propo sals for minimizing striped bass destruction by commercial net ters and materially increasing escapement of spawning salmon from nets in the Sacramento river. The recommendations are that (1) gill nets be eliminated from Grizzly and Honker bay flats to effect maximum preservation of striped bass;(2) methods be de veloped for taking salmon and shad commercially which will not destroy striped bass; (3) gill netting in the river be eliminat ed, except for spring shad and salmon seasons, adjusted to April 15 through May 31, and except for fall salmon season ad justed to Aug. 10 through Sept. 5 and Sept. 20 through Sept. 30. Week end closures should be continued. A fourth "conditional" recom mendation by the department proposes that if effective salmon spawning does not approach the level of 400,000 to 500,000 spawners in ;the fall of 1957, re duction in both commercial and sports salmon take in the ocean and further curtailment in the river should be effected by emergency action of the legisla ture in 1958 and by the Fish and Game commission on sports fishing. If recovery of the salmon fish ery isn't indicated in the 1958 fall salmon spawning run, still more drastic restrictions should be imposed on all segments of the fishery to preserve the spe cies. The department listed as the major problems of the fisheries: 1. A decrease in 1956 from an average of 500,000 fish in the spawning count to only 200,000. 2. A gradual declined in strip ed bass in Sacramento river and delta while sports fishing pres sure increases. 3. The deleterious effect on striped bass in the taking of salmon and shad. 4. Intensified conflict of inter est between sportsmen and com mercial netters. Mother Asks License Suspension for Son Hamden, Conn. HP) Town Court Judge James P. Doherty fined 16-year-old Richard L. Medford SP 2-71 94 Overheated Stove Cause Of $350 Fire Damages A fire, which caused an esti mated $350 damage, was exting ushed by the Medford Fire de partment Friday about 8:15 p.m., according to reports. Firemen said the complete contents of a 10-foot square building was destroyed and the exterior heavily damaged. The building, located at 661 Gilman rd., was used as a, shop by Benny L. King. - King told firemen that he had started a fire in the shop's wood stove and left. When he return ed, the stove had overheated and set fire to the wall.
