But because Italians also have one of Delos Smith the lowest rates of alcoholism in the world, their ways of handling beverages could be useful information for countries where alcoholism is a problem such as the United States. Nevertheless, "any no tion that it is this use of milk which primarily determines the rate of alcoholism would be absurd and totally without foundation. It would be equally absurd however, to hope that alcoholism might be alleviated or prevented by such simple devices as increased consump tion of milk by adults. Mrs. Dits worth is recovering from injuries suffered in an accident several months ago. Mrs. Connie Marshall and daughter, Laura, of San Mateo, Calif., have been visiting Mrs. Marshall's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Morehead, of Trail. Mrs. Frazier Scott has re turned to her home in Philadel phia after spending a four-week vacation visiting her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hammons, of Shady Cove. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Hoppe of Eureka, Calif., are parents of a son born recently. The baby has been named Darrell Kent. Ma ternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Homer Buttram of Shady Cove and paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Hoppe of Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Vaughn of Trail left recently for Napa, Calif., to spend a week visiting their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Vaughn, and children, Sonda and Wayne. Ben Collier of Laurelhurst rd., Trail, has gone to Reedsport on a business trip. The next regular meeting of St. Martin's Guild of Shady Cove-Trail will be held on Mon day, Oct. 7, at the home of Dr. A. J. Loeffler of Trail, with Mrs. Bill Massey as hostess. The in quiry class for St. Martin's will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at the home of Mrs. Bob Vincent in Shady Cove. The Rev. Bruce MacHenry of Prospect will lead the discussion. . Orin Train of Trail is spending a week visiting his brother, Mar ion Train, in Coquille. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wilson and daughter, Leana, are on a vaca tion trip through Washington and Idaho and will visit Wil son's brother in Idaho. Mrs. Dale Sawyer of Shady Cove recently returned from a trip to southern California. She visited her brother Cecil B. Mer rill in South Pasadena; Dale's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Kellar Hutton, in North Long Beach; and her niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Har old Baldwin in Sacramento. Mr. and Mrs. Travis Littlefield of Shady Cove held a surprise wedding reception at the East gate home recently honoring Mr. and Mrs. Robert Eastgate who were married in Reno, Nev., Sept. 24. Mrs. Eastgate is the former Miss Beverly De Barde, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. De Barde of Portland, and Robert Eastgate is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Eastgate of Medford, formerly of Shady Cove, and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Travis Littlefield. Johnny Barth of Torrance, Calif, is staying up at his cabin on Big Butte creek for the hunt ing season. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Baty of Tarzana, Calif., have been visit ing Baty's sister and brother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Watson of Trail. They were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Watson of Shady Cove Monday and visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Wat son. The vvatsons are expecting Mrs. Watson's sister and hus band, Mr. and Mrs. Ike Skillman of Camino, Calif., for a visit this weekend. Scottie Parrick of Trail is planning- to go to the Veterans hospitl in Roseburg Oct. 3 for a medical Check-up. Mr. and Mrs. Chandis McDer mot of Santa Monica, Calif., spent five days visiting at the home of MacDermot's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George MacDermot, of Riffles on the Rogue. Other guests of the MacDermot's are MacDermot's parents, Mr. and Mrs. MacDer mot of Elsinare, Calif. The Mac Dermot's daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Baker, have returned from their business trip to California and plan to remain in this area. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Forth of Jamesport, Mo., were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. N. R. Hohn of Trail. Other guests of the Hohns were their niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. John Michal, of Colton Calif. The Elk-Trail PTA will hold the regular meeting Friday, Oct. 4, starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Elk-Trail school cafe. Elizabeth Cushman of Trail made a trip to South Sacramento recently where she visited her brother and sister-in-law, Mx. and Mrs." Lee Cushman. Mr. and Mrs. Barry Campbell of Trail spent the weekend vis--iting Mrs. Campbell's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Barrett, in Grants Pass. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Walter of Temple City, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Harmon of Van Nuys, Calif., were recent house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Davis of Shady Cove.
