TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Johnson - Carr An event of Saturday. Sentpm. ber 21, was the wedding of Miss Isobel Barbara Carr to Philip Gustav Johnson Jr. which took place in Sacred Heart Catholic church, Medford. The bride is the older daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick J. Carr, 16 Flor ence avenue, and the bridegroom is a son of Mrs. P. G. Johnson Sr., Seattle, Wash., and the late Mr. Johnson. The nuptial mass was cele brated at 10:30 o'clock in the morning by the Rev. John A. Ilg, and Mr. Carr escorted his daughter to the altar. The cou pie received the special privilege of the apostottc blessing given by His Holiness, Pope Pius XII, which was read at the conclusion of the mass. A wedding breakfast and re ception for 130 guests followed the ceremony, and was held in the garden of the Carr home. White chrysanthemums decorat ed the church, and were used for table arrangements at the breakfast. Wears Satin The bride's gown was of white dull lustre satin with long sleeves, round neckline and full skirt ending in a chapel length train. Her veil of hand-made Venetian lace was first worn by Mrs. Arthur Monroe, (Carol Coleman) at her wedding and loaned to the bride. The bride's bouquet was of white rosebuds, Hauhn dwarf ivy and lily-of-the- valley. Her pearl necklace was the bridegroom's gift and she carried an heirloom handker chief of Florentine lace loaned by Mrs. John Day and which has been carried by a number of brides in the Parsons family Miss Carolyn Carr was her sister's honor attendant and bridesmaids were Miss Sylvia McCabe, Medford, Miss Kath leen O'Driscoll, St. Cloud. Minn., and Miss Catherine Curtis, the bride's cousin from Vancouver, Wash. They wore frocks of mint green and silver iridescent taf feta designed with back full ness and bow detail and carried bronze chrysanthemums and ivy. Their half-hats were trimmed with fish net veils. Best man for the bridegroom was his brother-in-law, Patrick McDonald of Philipsburgh, Mont., and ushers were John Boucher, Portland; Cebert Bail largeon Jr., Seattle and Thomas Hunt, Portland. Mother Wears Grey For the wedding and breakf ast Mrs. Carr wore a grey peau de soie dress with matching hat and rose cymbidium orchid corsage. The bridegroom's mother wore a beige crepe frock with match ing hat and shell pink cymbi dium orchid corsage. Mrs. Robert Walker cut the wedding cake with a dated and initialed knife which was a wed ding gift to the bride and bride groom. She was assisted by Mrs. Arthur Monroe and Mrs. James Shinn. Pouring were Miss Helen Bullis, Mrs. George R. V. Bol ster, Mrs. R. M. Curtis, aunt of the bride from Sandpoint, Ida., Mrs. Henry Riley, great-aunt of the bride from Dunsmuir, Calif., Mrs. Homer Marx, Mrs. John Day, Mrs. C. Elwood Hedberg and Miss Marjprie Riley, cousin and godmother of the bride from New York City. Miss Sharon Hogan took charge of the guest book. The Misses Susan Hubbard, Linda Smith, Pamela Cooksey, Jeanne Klatt and Marcia Spence, high scliool friends of the bride's sister, as-, sisted with serving. Mrs. John Moffat and Mrs. C. Elwood Hedberg took charge of the church decorations and Mrs. Ernest Barnes arranged white chrysanthemums for the buffet, table at the breakfast. Mrs. M. N. Hogan arranged pink chry santhemums and white dahlias in the rooms of the Carr home. Parties Given In the evening following the wedding and breakfast the Carrs were hosts for a buffet supper. Guests were attendants at the wedding, relatives and a few October Session Planned by AAUW The October meeting of Med ford branch, American Associa tion of University Women, will be held Wednesday, October 2 at 8 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Elliott Harlow, 301 Ardmdre avenue. In charge of the program for the meeting is Mrs. R. E. Cor don, status of women chairman. Guest speaker will be Mrs. C. D. Winston, dean of women and registrar of Southern Oregon college, Ashland. Mrs. Winston will report on the 75th anniver sary convention of AAUW which she attended in Boston, Mass., June 23-28. Mrs. Winston will give the highlights of the convention and will report on any changes in the national by Jaws particularly those changes as they affect the local by-laws. The convention was held in Boston, the city where the as sociation was founded in 1882 for "practical educational work" the outcome of a meeting of 17 young college alumnae who wanted to open the doors of higher education to other wom en and to find wider opportuni ties to use their training. Today AAUW has more than 140,000 members who work on the na tional, state and local levels to further education. He is an industrial engineer for Crown Zellerbach company. 4 Medford Woman Flies to Europe Mrs. Kenneth Robinson, Plaza apartments, left Friday by plane for Frankfort, and Bad Nauheim, Germany. In the latter city she will visit her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Cooper. Mr. Cooper, a spe cialist third class, is serving in Germany with the 36th Armored Infantry battalion. Sharon Whitlock To Become Bride Of William Barlow The wedding of Miss Sharon Whitlock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Whitlock, 1425 Crater Lake avenue, Medford, to William Barlow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Olen Barlow, Phoenix, is scheduled for Friday, Octo ber 4. Miss Whitlock is a graduate of Medford High school and at tended Oregon State college. The wedding will be held November 16. Ceremony Weds Lois Lofland, Robert Manasco Medford Friends church was the setting Tuesday, September 10, for the wedding of Miss Lois Lofland and Robert E. Manas co. The eight o'clock evening double ring ceremony was sol emnized by Clynton Crisman, pastor of the church. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lofland, Route 1, Box 54, Central Point. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Manasco, Route 1 Box 110, Central Point. Baskets of fall flowers deco rated the church for the cere mony and Mrs. Crisman played the wedding music. Given in marriage by her fa ther, the bride wore a coral col ored suit with white hat and carried two white orchids on' a white Bible. Miss Anne Lofland attended her sister. She wore a blue suit and had a corsage of pink rose buds. The bride and bridegroom both attended Crater High school. Mr. Manasco is serving with the United States Navy and is stationed at China Lake, Calif. Among the 30 wedding guests were the grandparents of the bridegroom, Mr. and Mrs. J. Seely of Blyth, Calif. The bride is the former Linda Beth Towle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Towle, Palo Alto, and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Maddox, 340 South Groveland avenue, Medford. Canon Edwin E. West read the wedding ceremony at 4:30 o'clock in the afternoon, and Mr. Towle gave his daughter in marriage. The bride wore a gown of sheer; embroidered silk cry stalette fashioned with low neck line, long sleeves and a tiered skirt with chapel train. Her bouquet was of white eucharist lilies, roses and fern and her double elbow-length veil was held by a pearl crown. Miss Marylin Avery, Corval lis, was honor attendant. Her gown of pale green peau de soie was fashioned on sheath lines and with darker green chiffon trimming on the bodice. She car ried an arm bouquet of white phalaenopsis orchids and bbu vardia and a headdress of orchids. ' Mrs. Herbert Towle Jr., of Mountain View, Calif., Miss Jean Tudor, Atherton, Calif., and Miss Beverly McMonagle of Reception Given Wednesday Night For Newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Littlefield were hosts Wednesday evening for a surprise wedding reception honoring Mr. and Mrs. Robert Eastgate who were married in Reno, Nev., Tuesday, September 24, by the Rev. C. Adams of the Baptist church. About 25 guests attended the reception. Mrs. Eastgate is the former Beverly De Borde. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. De Borde, formerly of Medford but now residents of Portland. Mr. Eastgate is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Eastgate, 612 Franquette st., Medford. They were graduated fiom Medford High school with the 1957 class The reception was held in the Eastgate home on Rogue River drive. Mrs. William Shepherd was in charge of the decorations which were pink and white flowers. Miss Phyllis Briggs took care of the guest book. Teddy Daw played recorded music. Mrs. Earl Sheppard made the wedding cake, which she serv' ed. Allen Eastgate poured coffee while Travis Littlefield served punch. Gardenias decorated the recep tion tables. The bride's mother wore a mauve silk shantung sheath dress with matching chiffon jacket, and her orchids were pinned to her purse. The bridegroom's mother wore a ice blue raw silk and chiffon ensemble with white orchids. The newlyweds spent their honeymoon at Lake Tahoe and in the Sierras, the bride wearing for traveling a brown and black plaid suit and corsage of green orchids. Among the wedding guests were the bridegroom's parents, his uncles and aunts, Mr. and Mrs. H. Chandler Drew, Med ford, and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Butler, Grants Pass; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer McDade, Mr. and Mrs. Don Fairweather, and Mr. and Mrs. Hans Hoerlein, all for merly of Medford and now of California, and Mrs. Stewart, the bride's grandmother, Palo Alto The bride attended San Jose State college - her freshman and sophomore years and then trans ferred to the University of Ore gon. Mr. Maddox attended Pa cific university, Forest Grove. Ore., before transferring to the University of Oregon. She is a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and Mr. Maddox' fra ternity is Sigma Phi Epsilon. Both will be graduated in December, and the couple will then go to Baltimore, Md., where Mr. Maddox will report for duty in the United States Army as a second lieutenant. LEONS'-21 Luncheon Planned By Navy Mothers For Nine Recruits To welcome home nine re cruits of the All Oregon com pany who enlisted together in July, Rogue Valley club, Navy Mothers of America, will hold a special meeting and luncheon Tuesday, October 1. The event will be at Girls Community club beginning at 10 a.m. with lunch eon to be served at 12 noon. All nine recruits and their mothers are expected to attend.
