J. A-A,? Task of Writing Brokerage Letter Most Uninspiring By ELMER C. WALZER United Press Financial Editor New. York (IPI According to some of the analysts there's nothing so uninspiring right now as the job of writing a bro kerage letter. With mar ket psycholo gy deteriorat ing and a sim ilar tendency becoming ap parent among business peo- Elmer Walzer pie there isn't much definite that one can find to write about, the brokerage experts complain. , One of them notes that to sug gest reasons for this irregularity is like warming up the remains of Sunday's meal. Old Reasons Meaningless The old reasons are there and they have been heard so often that they are meaningless to the trading community. There are some who hold that this is a bear market but the majority of market men insist that it's still in the bull stage and hasn't gone through the proper bull market funeral. Bulls don't die easily, but they get mighty sick. One market man points out that it's difficult to worry over a bear market when so many issues have had their own pri vate bear markets so long. This market ought to rally from this point, say the experts, but actually they aren't certain it will. Hence the difficulty of making predictions in the mar ket letters. Brokers have lots of orders to sell stocks above the market at this level and hence they don't think rallies will get too far. Some of them believe the mar ket will be depressed further, possibly toward the 400 mark, possibly stopping around 425. What the market men who write the market letters would like to know are how the small speculators will behave if prices go down much further. Also they'd like to know how the in stitutions will act when they're able to buy stocks at discounts. Also the letter writers wonder why, if there's so much bearish ness around, more people don't sell this market short. They have plenty of opportunity to do so on small advances that occur from time to time. Short sales must be made on an uptick. They aren't surprised at the early start in tax selling and tbey look for a lot more in view Albany Youth Dies In Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan HP) A 19-year-old Navy seaman from Al bany, Ore., died in the naval hos pital here today from injuries he received when he fell 25 feet to a concrete surface Tuesday. Loren Edward Shelly, a mem ber of a Naval construction bat talion at Camp McGill, suffered a skull fracture when he plunged 25 feet from a building he was dismantling onto a concrete sur face. He was rushed to the naval hospital here. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Gladys L. Hoffman of Albany. of the fact that many stocks have produced losses for their holders, especially the growth issues.
