EAGLE POINT Woman Observes 80th Year Bt MRS. LAURA A. MC FALL Eagle Point A coffee party was held at the Don Kimmel res idence honoring the 80th birth day of Mrs. Lottie Van Scoy re cently. Those attending were Miss Yetta Olsen, Mesdames Ruby Stowell, Josephine Holmes, Mattie Brown, Amy Brown, George McLean, Frank Cham berlain, Edward Chamberlain, Ray B. Chamberlain, Elmer Hurd,' Roy Ashpole and Mrs. Frank Guerin, from Agate Beach, Ore. The hostesses were Mrs. Lyle VanScoy and Mrs. Don Kimmel. A birthday dinner party was held at the home of Lyle Van Scoy in honor of his mother's 80th birthday, with Mrs. Van Scoy's two sisters-in-law, Mattie Brown and Amy Brown, and sev eral nieces and nephews attending- , Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Brown mo tored to Glendale, Oregon, Sat urday, Sept. 7, to visit their granddaughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Garret and Scotty. Recent visitors at the J. D. Brown home were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hisey from Redmond, Ore., who came to the Rogue River valley to get their supply of pears and peaches for canning. Mrs. Josephine Tanner, for merly from Eagle Point, now of Saratoga, Calif., returned to Medford to attend the funeral of Mary Clover recently. Mrs. Tan ner called on Mrs. W. H. Young and Mrs. Edward R. Chamberlain. of Mrs. McCoy, Mr. and Mrs. V. W. Hay. Mr. and Mrs. loyd Wallace are newcomers to Eagle Point from Sams Valley. They now are at their home at 19 N.E. street. Wallace is employed at Medco. The monthly meeting of the Ladies Missionary society of the Eagle Point Community Bible church will be held in the home of Mrs. Joe Munshaw, 11 West 6th street, on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 1:30 p.m. All women in the community are invited to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Rollin Stowell of Sacramento were weekend guests Saturday, Sept. 7. of the J. W. Smiths. Chester Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Smith, who was a Navy recruiting officer at Klamath Falls, has been trans ferred to Florida to attend school. He visited his parents on his way east. ' Mr. and Mrs. H. A. McCoy and family, of Medford, Okla., re turned to their home after vis iting several weeks at the parent A surprise pink and blue shower was given Mrs. Ray B. Chamberlain in the yard of the Vinson Vaughan residence, on Mrs. Chamberlain's birthday, Sept. 11. Those attending the shower were Mesdames Augusta Perry, Lottie Van Scoy, Christina Lin der, Bennie Hefley, Don Kim mel, Jim Martinson, Scott Boyer, Jake Olsen, Frank Chamberlain, Harve Stanley, Larry Wilson, Glenn Clymer, Oscar Frei, Clar ence Davies, Victor Hay, Glenn Hale, Mike Heckenberger, Lester McFall, Walter Turnquist, O. E. Henderson, Earl Farlow, Fred Farlow, Don Bieberstedt, Ed ward R. Chamberlain, Frank Glonning, and Wallace Pianka. The hostesses were Mrs. Darrel Stanley, Mrs. Don Ashpole and Mrs. Vinson Vaughan. Refresh ments of punch and a decorated birthday cake was served fol lowing the opening of the gifts. The Eagle Point High school PTSA will hold its first meeting of this season in the high school library at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18. The program will in clude color slides of Washington, D. C, shown by Gail Schoppert, boys physical education instruc tor. An explanation, by Mrs. Stewart Hooper, on scholarships availiable to students will be given at the meeting. The intro duction of teachers and discus sion of the proposed budget and PTSA projects for the year, will also be part of the business of the meeting. Mrs. Dan Dwyer of Medford, her topic was "parliamentary law." The following members were awarded their 100 percent at tendance pins for last year: Mes dames Hoyl Jordon. Fred Erueg ger, Willard Cave, Clarence Da vies, Nat Etzel, Don Geren, Lyle ! Greenwood, Lee Hayes, Stewart Hooper, Charles Martin, Jake i Olsen and Mrs. W. W. (Nellie) I Jackson. The next meeting will j be Monday, Sept. 23, at the home I of Mrs. Stewart Hooper, 45 S. i Fifth street. The Eagle Point Jaycettes met at the home of Mrs. Don Kimmel Thursday, Sept. 5. Following the business meeting, slides on Ha waii were shown. The slides were loaned to the Jaycettes by Mrs. Dale S. Ackerman.. Refresh ments were served by Gwen Flury, Toni Greb and Ada Ruth Kimmel. The next meeting will be held Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Bert Simmons residence on South B street in apartment 1. There will be the installation of officers by Central Point Jay cettes at this meeting. The offi cers are requested to be there by 7:30 p.m. Entertainment and refreshments will follow the installation. A group of 13 Eagle Point Lady Lions met on Monday, Sept. 9, for their first dinner meeting at Kims restaurant. Mrs. Frances Hornbuckle and Mrs. Johnnie Johnson were guests. The speaker for the evening was The Eagle Point Home Exten sion unit held its first fall meet ing, a Silver Tea, at the home of Mrs. Steve O. Wilson. There were 22 members and 5 visitors present. A report on project leaders training meetings for each month was explained by Mrs. James A. Edge. She also in troduced the new national ex tension song and reported on the district County Extension meet ing held in Ashland on Aug. 28. Following the business meet ing Mrs. B. A. Clark reported on their trip to Hawaii. She was wearing one of her muu muu that she had bought in the is lands. Child care will be provid ed by Mrs. Edna Cunningham at the Eagle Point nursery school on South B street. Refreshments were served by officers Mrs. Glenn Clymer, Mrs. Wallace Pi anka, Mrs. Larry Wilson and Mrs. Bennie Hefley. Eagle Point schools opened on Monday, Sept. 9 with busses running on regular schedules. School started at 8:30 a.m. and dismissed at 3:15 p.m. Total enrollment in the high school is 271, up 10 from this time last year. Enrollment is ex pected to be about 300 after fruit season. The total enrollment in the Eagle Point elementary school is 517 this year, compared to 497 a year ago. Football practice has been con ducted during the past week in preparation for the Crater High school game Friday, Sept. 20, oh our home field. The game will start at 8 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Lester McFall and family and Clarence Web ster were dinner guests at the J. D. Brown home Friday, Sept. 13. V. D. Brophy of Medford was a recent caller at the Eagle Point hardware. He stopped by to visit with Roy Ashpole. Mrs. Opal Collins, wHo has been staying at the home of Mrs. Neva Gilbreth, has gone to Napa, Idaho to visit relatives. The award, a $62.50 check, was presented to the in cumbent editor, Sandra Guss, at an all-school assembly Sept. 12. J. B. Goetchius, special agent for AMICO made the presenta tion. Goetchius commended the Crater Comet's staff for their work on a school and. community-wide safety project. ' He said that 2,000 entries from 900 high schools through out the U.S. had been received by AMICO. The special news edition, slogan, poster and essay contests, special assemblies, roadside : displays are but a few of the projects in traffic safety which won fourth place for Crater. She is a former Medford resi dent ami graduate of Medford High school. Mrs. Devon has studied with several photogra phers and was co-manager of Planned in Medford Kennell-Ellis studios in Medford prior to World War II. Mrs. Devon was manager of the Evergreen studios during World War II. She has lived in Portland since that time. Deadwood, S. D., on the west ern Black Hills, is almost one mile above sea level. Four Medfordites Receive Trip to N Y Four Medford people have re ceived expense paid trips to New York city from their employers, S and H Green Stamps com pany. Just returned from a week in New York are Mrs. Harvey Sie mann, an employee at the local store, and her daughter, Sharon, of 841 Palm st. Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Hinman, 156 Renault ave., leave by plane Monday to spend a similar week in the city. Mrs. Hinman is manager of the S and H store here, at 223 South Cen tral ave. The Medford store was named the outstanding store of the year on the west coast by the company.
