Issued Tuesday and Wednes day were four permits, one for $65,000, issued to W. E. Brooks for the construction of a doctor's clinic at 842 East Main st. The Watkins construction company was also issued permit to erect a triplex at 301 West Second st., valued at $16,000. The other two permits were for a carport and the erection of a sign. During August, 59 permits were issued by the city-for a total value of $202,715, officials said. The same period last year showed 46 permits issued w-ith a value of $157,986 reported. First and second grades, with 26 chil dren, will be taught by Mrs. Norman Martin; third and fourth with 24, by Mrs. Jean Cunning ham; fifth and sixth with an enrollment of 18, by Mrs. Ruth Cummins; and Harley' Baker principal, will teach seventh and eighth gardes with 17 pupils. With the exception of Mrs. Cummins, all the teachers will be putting in their first year in Hornbrook. Ground was broken last week end and work begun on the new addition to the schoolhouse, for which bonds were voted at a special election last spring. Mr. and Mrs. George Sloan and Jerry Moore, their grandson, who has been spending the sum mer with them, spent Labor Day weekend fishing on the Cali fornia coast at Trinidad. They were joined there by their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Burkhart Jr., of Ar eata, Calif., and their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Sloan, who had gone to Areata earlier in the week to visit the Burkharts. Jerry re turned to his parents' home in Eureka where he will enter high school this fall. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Smith and daughter, Dorothy, returned home Friday evening from a week's business trip to San Fran cisco. Miss Smith then spent Sun day and Labor Day with friends at Shasta lake, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith drove to Scott Valley over the holiday where they visited her mother; Mrs. Dora Marlahan, and her sister, Mrs. Rose Burton. Mrs. Burton had just returned from a five weeks' trip through the east, and en route home had stopped to visit the Smiths' son, Bob, at his ranch at Rupert, Idaho.
