Maureen O'Hara May Take Stand In Magazine Trial Hollywood (W Maureen O'Hara, Corinne Calvet and Mae West are among the cast of Hollywood stars who may be called for their greatest real life performances next week when the smut trial of Confi dential magazine resumes after Labor Day. The prosecution hints, but will confirm, that it stands ready to call any or all of these footlight queens to the stand plus some other big names in its attempt to prove that Con fidential lied when It paraded their alleged "sex-capades" in its pages. Confidential, Whisper maga zines and its agents are accused of criminal libel and conspiracy to print obscenity. Action Promised Dept. Dist. Atty. William L. Eitzi says he will call as re buttal witnesses next week "some substantial personalities . . . I think I can promise you plenty of action." He was vague on who the luminaries would be, but answered "maybe" when asked by United Press whether they would include Misses O'Hara and Calvet and the still-beautiful "come-up-and-see-me-some-time" girl. Singer May Appear Dusky singer Dorothy Dan dridge, in a suit with Confident ial over its failure to publish a promised apology for its story about her, might also be one of the performers held in the wings by the prosecution. The magazine's attorney, Al bert De Stefano, explained in testimony the singer's libel suit would cost too much to fight even though, he claimed, the story about her romance in the woods with bandleader Dan Terry was true. The trial during the past week had fallen off its path of sensationalism into a mire of legal back-and-forth. But after the three-day holiday week end, it promises to blossom forth again with colorful activity more suitable to a street scene in a Hollywood production than the traditional decorum of a court room. There are more than four million tractors on U. S. farms. Family Doctor Throws Stones at Windows New York (IP) A family doctor from Pleasantville, N.Y., flunz four rocks at a stained- glass window in St. Patrick's Cathedral Friday because the Roman Catholic church refused to block the marriage of his daughter. Dr. Joseph A. Porcello, 51, ad mitted carrying the stones in his doctor's bag the 2o miles irom his home and hurling them at the window, police said. His "gesture of protest" was against the church's refusal to stop the wedding of his daughter, Claire, 19, to her former high school English teacher, Frank Peters, 30, failed to harm the window. It also failed to stop Hie mar riage. The wedding took place at 11 a.m., as scheduled, and while Porcello was being ar raigned on a disorderly conduct charge, the couple set , off on their honeymoon. Porcello pleaded guilty to the disorderly conduct charge and was released on parole until Sept. 13, when he will be sen tenced in magistrate's court. Fixed Objects Struck By Cars in Medford Friday's drivers were a bit hard on fixed objects around the city, but their own cars suf fered most, according to police records. .At 4 p.m. Lawrence Lee Briggs, 821 West Second St., drove . his truck into a police call box on the east side of Ivy st. between Main and Sixth sts. The box was not damaged except for scraped paint, police said. About an hour and a half later, a sedan operated by Ken neth Delbert Lawrentz, 106xi East Twelfth st., struck a fire hydrant on the northeast cor ner of Main and Grape sts. Lawrentz got a citation for faulty brakes and failure to maintain proper . look out, ac cording to city police. His car's right front fender was dented. The hydrant was not damaged, they said. ' Washineton OP) A Federal Trade Commission investigation into the production and distribu tion of newsprint has been ruled out this year. Sen. Warren G. Magnuson CD Wash.) appealed in vain for Sen ate action before adjournment nf nnnzress. He said there may be "concerted" rise in newsprint prices in the next few montns. Maennson. chairman of the senate commerce committee, told the senate Friday that possible anti-trust actions might be hronffht aeainst the industry as a result of the FTC investiga tion. He said the FTC had on six other occasions looked into newsprint prices and once ob tained an indictment for anti trust violation. Magnuson said there should be a "continuing" investgiati6n.
