Smith celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sat urday afternoon, Aug. 17. An open house was held at their home from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. for family and friends. Among those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Swend Johansen of Coquille and Mr. and Mrs. George Smith of Butte Falls. Mrs. Johansen and George Smith are the daughter and son of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Smith. Visiting from Koseburg were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Couey and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Boyd. The Coueys and Boyds are nieces and nephews of the Smiths. The Louie Schweizer family of Clayton, NewMexico, were also here for the occasion. Friends from the Butte Fall area honoring the Smiths were: J. E. Stowell, Ollie Stowell, Wil liam and Maudie Schweizer. Mrs. I. M. Smith, A. E. Edmond- son, Lola Edmondson, Mr. and Mrs. Hartlerode. Mrs. Jes Rod- gers, Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Abbott, Arthur and Margaret Price, Mrs. Wm. Edmondson, Mrs. Charles Ferguson. Mrs. Jim Arnold. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Fredenburg, Mr. ana Mrs. Koy Green, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Driskell, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Masterson, Mrs. Bruce Pingle, Mr. and Mrs. William Bowen. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Shep card. The Smiths were born in the valley and have spent most of their lives in Oregon. The last 14 years they have lived in Butte Falls. Marines, recently visited with the Andy Hamstra family while on leave. Gene is presently sta tioned at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and is scheduled to go to Alaska in October for a short training period. Gene and Miss Darlene Hawkins are engaged but as yet no definite wedding date has been set. Sympathy is extended the Les Casey and Henry Tygart fam ilies upon the recent death of Barney Leabo oil Shady Cove. Barney was Les step-father and Mrs. Tygart's uncle, Mr. Leabo passed away suddenly following a heart attack. Miss Priscilla Poole recently purchased "Cap", a gelding pre viously owned by Mrs. Don Dil lard. Miss Poole is currently working in her brother's home in Phoenix until school starts. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Wright re cently spent a Sunday at Apple gate with Mr. and Mrs. Dwain Richardson. Mrs. Richardson is the daughter of the Wrights. Wayne Holm is spending sev eral weeks with his brother, Lloyd. Wayne's home is in Grass Valley, Calif. Wayne spent this past week as a guest in the Ken neth Hawkins home on Oben chain road, as Lloyd, an em ployee of the Forest Service, spent the week on the trail. Overnight guests in the Page Stauffer home were Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Pillette. Marvin has spent the summer at Big Elk as ranger and will soon move his family to Guam, where he plans to teach. Gene Wright, Boilerman 1st Class, U.S. Navy, was home on leave this past week. Gene is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Wright and is stationed at Seattle aboard the USS Rombach. Rme Pinele sDent the better part of a week at his home con valescing from a bout with the flu. Bruce is reported to be im proved and is back at the Butte Falls general store again. Mrs. Glenn Cathey recently returned from Buffalo, Minn., where she had been a guest in the Leo Campbell home. Mrs. Cathey and Leo are sister and brother. Upon Mrs. Cathey's return, Mrs. Olson and daughter, Kathy, left for Season. Mrs. Olson had been working at Scottie's cafe during Mrs. Cathey's absence. Mrs. Cathey (Scottie) now has two new employees, Mrs. Joe Dyer and Miss Joyce Irwin. Pfc.
