Stars Tumble Angles, 11-4; Motilities Extend Win String Over Padres by 3-1 Victory Hollywood W The Holly wood Stars collected 12 hits, in cluding three homers, today to dump the Los Angeles Angels, 1 1-4, in the first game of a three- game series at Gilmore field. I red Waters, turned in 6 1-3 innings of expert relief pitching, giving up only four hits and not allowing a score, to gain his fifth victory of the season against six losses. The loss went against Tom Lasorda (3-, the first of three Los Angeles pitchers. Los Angeles led off the scor lne in the first frame with a single tally on a double by Tom Saffell, an infield out and a wild pitch. Hollywood collerted two un earned runs in the bottom of the first then added another tal ly in the second when Pete Na- ton tripled in Bill Causion who bad walked. The Angels came back with three runs in the third when Gale Wade slammed out his fourth homer of the year with Earl Battey and Bert Hamric aboard. Start Ti Scor The Stars tied the score at 4-4 in the third when Jim Bau mer slammed out his 13th hom er of the year. ' Hollywood clinched the game with a big seven-run fifth inning which was marked by a fight which took 10 minutes to set tle. The heavy hitting of the in ning included a homer by Fred Waters, his first of the year, and a three-run roundtripper by Na ton, his fourth of the year. Lasorda rushed off the mound and made no apparent attempt to field the ball, but threw a flying block which knocked over Jacobs. Both players got up swinging.'. Players Join Fight The skirmish brought players from both teams out of the dug outs and a second fight broke out between Battey and Naton Several minutes later players and umpires broke up the fights after several punches had been exchanged. The only injury re ported was suffered by Battey who had a cut lip. After a hud dle, the umpires decided that no action would be taken against the players who had talc en part in the fight. (111 Left hander Don Ferrareses four-hit pitching today carried Vancou ver to its third Straight victory over the San Diego Padres 3 to 1, in a Pacific Coast league con test at Lane field. It was Ferrarese's third tri umph in a row over the Padres, who have managed just two runs and 11 hits in 27 innings against the Baltimore Orioles farm hand. The hurler, who took an 8-5 record, also collected three of the 11 hits the Mounties must ered off Vic Lombard! and Dick Brodowski. Vancouver scored its firs? run in the third frame and Ferrarese kept the Padres shut out until the eighth inning when he walk ed one "to force in a run after San Diego had loaded the bases on two walks and a single. Lettermen and seniors will draw their gear on Thursday, other juniors on Friday and sophomores on Saturday. Hours are 10 a.m. until noon and 2 tc 4 p.m. Evensen said that juniors or sophomores planning to leave town over Labor day week end should draw eear he- fore they depart. Southern Oregon Timing as sociation is holding the North west Gasoline championship drag races here on Sunday, Sept. 8. The event will be the biggest ever sponsored by the local organization. The Courtopassi brothers are owners of the Slipper and Ed Courtopassi is the driver. He'll challenge any Oregon and Washington driver or machine to beat him on the Camp White quarter-mile stretch. Rivalry in the Sept. 8 races will be for gasoline-fueled ve hicles only.
