Riverside Ave. Phone SP 2-6209 Obituaries Director Named For Alsea Study Salem W The Alsea wa tershed study, ordered by the last Legislature as a comprehen sive resource use basis for all areas of Oregon, will be direct ed by forestry and fisheries ex pert Don W. Chapman. Chapman has been hired by the State Natural Resources com- mittee headed by Gov. Robert D. Holmes to conduct the $50,- 000 coastal stream study. Cooperation of several state agencies, including Oregon State college, is scheduled for the un ique study. First phase of the study will involve water gaug ; ing in the Alsea river and tr.b ! utaries which- drain parts of Lane, Lincoln and Benton coun ties. Chapman, who holds a mast ers degree from Oregon State college, has been working there on pollution problems in fisher ies. Previously he was with the Oregon Cooperative Wildlife Re search unit at Corvallis and the U. S. Forest Service. MRS. CATHERINE LANDING Mrs. Catherine A. Landing died Aug. 14 at a convalescent home her. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Perl Fun eral home. MRS. LAURA TAYLOR Mrs. Laura T. Taylor, 71. of 520 t South Fir st., Medford, died at a local hospital Monday, Aug. 12. Mrs. Taylor, a resident of Medford for more than 47 years, was born at Granite, Mont., June 17, 1886. She married Jesse M. Taylor in 1918, and is a mem ber of the Jacksonville Rebekah lodge and the First Methodist church of Medford. She is survived by her hus band who lives in Central Point, a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Lu cille West, Medford, a sister, Mrs. Cora Dutton, Medford, and several nievces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Perl Funeral home Thurs day, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m. with Dr. George S. Roseberry officiating. Interment will be in the Jackson ville cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jack Greaves, Glenn Williams, Peter Fick, Bruce Fleming, Huse.Mc Kinney and John W. Morrison. (IP Miss America Beauty Pageant offic ials today announced the com plete list of entrants and the schedule of competitions in the annual contest starting Sept. 4. Preliminary competition will be held in Convention Hall Sept. 4-5-6. with the 51 contestants di vided into three groups. Each group will appear three times for judging in evening gowns, swimsuits and talent. On Sept. 7 a list of 10 semifi nalists will be named, and they will appear again in the evening gowns, swimsuits and talent cate gories. From five finalists the eventual winner and runner-up will be named after being scored on answers to a series of ques tions by a panel of judges. There are entrants from all states except Montana, Washing ton and Wyoming. Tom Temple, grand lodge rep resentative of the union, report ed from Seattle that the mach inists decided "reluctantly" to cancel a strike deadline set for Thursday. Negotiations between ship yards and unions in the Metal Trades Council started in May The council last week accepted an employer offer but machin ists sought higher pay and other benefits. ' STAR HAS BABY Santa Monica, Calif. (IPI Screen star Marisa Pavan, wife of actor Jean Pierre Aumont, Tuesday gave birth to a seven pound son at St. John's Hospital. It was the couple's first child.
