in Los Angeles on an indictment

the third suspect, Louis G. Spiv-

after the $100,000 robbery of

were alerted.
The alert was called off when
Markwardt reported he had run
into clouds near La Grande and
had decided to turn back toward
home. He became low on gas
and finally decideS to land in
a field north of Klamath Falls
"between cattle and shocks of
hay."

baseball club known as "The
Bloomer Girls." It was often
claimed this club used ringers,
that is, men players, especially
pitchers, who impersonated wo

Globe Trotter
Queen Elizabeth of England
has become quite a globe trot
ter. She hasn't broken Mrs. El
eanor Roosevelt's record yet but
she is still a young woman. In
comparison. Queen Victoria who
enjoyed a very long life rarely
left home. Farthest she ever
traveled was to Florence, Italy.
She was fond of the Irish and
so went to Cork once and Dub
lin once.

lin to honor the return of his
21-year-old identical twin sons,
Alfred and Wilfred, from the
Army. Franklin's neighbors
bought tickets to the barbecue
at S3 each when Franklin was
unable to finance by himself a
2,600-pound Holstein steer, 3.000
buijs, 3,000 ears of corn 500
pounds of potato salad 2000 bot
tles of beer and soda pop and
"lots of ice cream for the children."

David Stanton, Sunday saved a
three-year-old girl from drown
ing during a family picnic at
Laurelhurst park.
Mrs. A. D. Hinman, Portland,
said her daughter Jill had been
playing near the pond in the
park when the child toddled too
near the edge, fell in and disap
peared beneath the water.
The Stanton youth, grandson
of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Keyes
of Fosfil, saw the girl go under
and leaped into rescue her.
40 Persons Poisoned
At Company Picnic
Sandusky, Ohio API The
last of some 40 persons stricken
with ptomaine poisoning during
a company picnic were to be re
leased from the hospital today.
All the victims were em
ployees of the American Electri
cal Corp.. Mansfield, Ohio, spon
sors of the outing at nearby
Cear Grove.
Authorities said the poisoning
was believed to have been
caused from deviled eggs pre
pared by families in Mansfield
Friday night and not eaten until
Saturday afternoon.
