He has been invited primarily to explain the recently com pleted reconnaisance survey map. Made by an air survey, the map has omitted a number of properties, the owners of which wish to be included in the pro posed Sucker Creek Dam irriga tion project. McAllister will de scribe the method of petitioning needed to become part of the district. Ben George, veteran insur ance man in the Illinois Val ley, was presented a diamond pin by Carl Kennedy, district agent for the Farmers Group Insurance company, in recogni tion of 10 years of service as one of its representatives recently. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Be George last week end were their j son-in-law , and . daughter, Mr. : and Mrs. Percy Lee and chil- I dren, Janet, Jpannie and Kathy, of Medford. They also visited Lee's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Lee at O'Brien. A meeting .was held at the ; Cave Junction Community ! church Monday to discuss ap ! pointment of a new minister to i fill the pulpit. Valley last week were his nephew and family, the Fred Baxters of Tujunga, and Mr. and Mrs. Osburn Rudaford, of Sunland. The Breckenridges returned recently from Florence, Ore., where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Turner. Bobette and Kath leen Breckenridge, their grand children who had been visiting their aunt and family at Flor ence, came home with them. Dinner guests at the Harold Crowls Friday were Mr. and Mrs. Les Henry of Cave . Junction- Mr. and Mrs. Bob Brecken ridge and family of O'Brien spent Sunday in Crescent City and Brookings, where they fish ed and picnicked. At the Charles Johnson home in Kerby last week were Mrs. Johnson's sister and niece, Mrs. Nick Caravelli, and her daugh ter, Ladeana, of San Francisco. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Davis, who recently sold their property in the valley, are vacationing in southern Idaho. They plan to see former residents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Wells, and family at Burley. Mathews, both of the Illinois Valley, enlisted in the Marines Aug. 1 at the recruit ing station in Portland. Both graduated from Illinois Valley High school in May. They are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Johnson . of Kerby, and Vernon A. Mathews and Mrs. Ronald Bird of Cave Junction. Illinois Valley volunteer fire men will be outfitted with win ter shirts, coats and hats from proceeds of the annual Firemen's ball last night at the American Legion hall. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gibbons and family last week were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Shaw han and son, Gordie, of Pasa dena, Calif. With ; them were Myrna Gibbons, who had been visiting her aunt and uncle in southern California. Mrs. Gib bons and Mrs. -. Shawhan are sisters. The Shawhan family is also visiting Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shawhan, who moved here re cently from Long Beach, Calif. Mr3. Robert Shawhan will re place Mrs. Henri Appy as Eng lish and dramatics teacher at Illinois Valley High school this fall. Friends of Fay Snider gather ed at her home recently for a surprise birthday luncheon. Her Lone Mountain Valley neighbor, Emma . Lemm was hostess at the luncheon. Guests included Hattie Evitt, Ann Turnbull, Grace Kubli, Hazel Slanaker, Edna Lee, Arciith Stephens, Emily Hooey and Louise Woodbury. . Lt. (jg) Bill Rauber, son of Mrs. Frank Rauber of Cave Junction, is now at a Navy sta tion on Point Barrow, Alaska. He returned from Japan last April, and expects to receive his discharge in September. Mrs. Rauber is the former Chat lotta King. Deputy Sheriff Lester Tytth cott is building a garage on the back of his Main street property in Cave Junction. It will not only house his own car, but is to be the new home for the Valley ambulance, operated by Tythcott. Visiting Mrs. Isabel Mellow last week were her son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. John Mellow of Redding, Calif. Donald Rauber, son of Mrs. Frank Rauber, has received his doctor's degree in literature at the University of Oregon and is now working for the Sandia Corporation as a technical writ er in atomic research at Sandia, N.M. Mr. and. Mrs. Rauber and their children, Christopher and Paul, are living at Sandia, near Albuquerque. Mr. and Mrs. Phil1 Claike, former owners of the Pines Mo tel in Cave Junction, are plan ning to live near Redding, Calif. . The couple visited in the val ley last week with their daugh ter and daughter-in-law and families, Mrs. Orville Looper and Mrs. Phil Clarke. Recent guests at the Phayo Pfefferle home were Mr. and Mrs David Flaherty and daugh ter, Kathleen, of . Pullman, Wash. Mrs. Pfefferle is Flaher ty's sister. ... . "Mr. and Mrs. Luther Sherier, owners of the Illinois Valley Cleaners, are home from a two week vacation in Montana and Boise. The couple visited Mrs. Sheri er's sister, Marie Landers, at Boise, Ida. On the way home, they stopped in Portland to visit their two sons, Paul Sherier and his wife, and Donald Sherier. Leaving for St. Joseph, Mo., Aug. 12 is Elder Melvin Thomp kins. former pastor of the Cave Junction Seventh Day Adven tist church, who will serve as minister in that city. Mr. and Mrs. Dave -Wilson entertained for Mr. and Mrs. Lucius Robinson of Kerby at a dinner party at their home, on Shadowcroft, lake last Sunday. Arriving for a surprise visit were Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Jensen and son, Carl, t of San Francisco, friends of the family. It is possible Lu ci'le even enjoys "picking up after him." But if she doesn't, it is her business to tell him so. She certainly can do without prying eye observing every de tail of her day-to-day life. If Lucille really uses her mother's shoulder to cry on, her really my daughter, Lucille, wh8 should be doing t!he complain ing She has the iatience of a saint. She was brought up in a home where her father was neat as a pin, and always help ed with the housekeeping. She has been won over to her mother's point of view of seeing herself- as a vie-' tim of a cruel, unfeeling hus band. As long as this is her view of the situation,- she will not be willing to work with her husband to create a happier to make a mess wherever he moves, and Lucille has nothing to do but pick up ' after him. Ed is such a bad, example that my two younger daughters say they will never merry if this is what young men fire like today.
