Also elected were Mrs. G. O. Sander, vice-prident; Mrs. Mable Houck, corresponding sec retary; Mrs. John Blass, record ing secretary, and Mrs. Geneva Schwan, treasurer. The officers will 0? installed at the Septem ber 12 meeting of the group. Mrs. Sander, program chair man, gave the morning devo tional and prayer, and Dr. and Mrs. Elliott showed colored slides of their recent trip to Alaska. O It was voted by the group to tour Weeks aid Orr Furniture store September 15 at 10 a.m. They decided to send a young man to the national convention at Madison, Wise, in September to enter the contest from Oregon and to send fifty cents per mem ber to help with the national exhibits at me different con ventions. Those planning to tour the furniture store are asked to call Mrs. Cox at SPring 2-4198. You insist on wearing dress-weight sheers for all oc casions. Recently this column reported th?.t the National Hosiery Manu facturers association hoped to give its industry a "shot in the leg" this fall with a host of new colors coordinated to mi lady's costume. Sales have been off, Associa tion President William F. Wil liamson admitted. Mrs. Gillenwaters promptly expressed her opinion why. In a letter, she said nylons once gave women at least 10 days wear, so women wore them in stoad of going bare-legged "Now," she said, if we get uptown and back without a run we feel lucky. I would buy many more pairs if the price was lower . . . Williamson answered that nylon stockings first came to market in 1940, they were made in 30 denier nylon the only weight then available. Thirty denier was what the industry calls service weight or walking sheer . . . meant for heavy duty. But as the nylon was refined. manufacturers began using finer or lighter weight yarn, and bil'- ing hosiery as 15 and even 10 denier, which is gossamer sheer. But they still make the 30 denier, for women who want it "Trouble is, they don't," said Williamson. "More than 80 pe: cent of all hosiery today is 15 denier and lighter. A woman can't expect this sheer a stock- in; to last through shopping gardening, and even golfing." "Hosiery is cheaper now than it was 10 years ago," he added "It is one of the few consumer items which has gone down in price ... no other segment of the clothing industry can make that statement. To Work on Pews Butte Falls Village Light cir cle of Butte Falls Community Bible church will meet at the church Friday, August 16 at 10 a.m. Members plan to work on the pews of the auditorium. The pews were designed by Elmer Leatherman and much of their construction was done by Henry Davies and Albert Hofman. Those who come Fri day are to bring sack lunches. Young people of the high school group meet alternately at the Elga Abbott and the How ard Simmonds' home on Wed nesday night at 7 p.m. Ray mond Abbott plans to attend summer conference of Young Life at Malibou Canada. Junior girls planning to go to Lake of the Woods summer camp are Dalene and Linda Mc- Alister, Robin Lee Simmonds ana Susan Crammer. This camp will be August 12 through Au gust 17.
