George Washington have been
added to the Corning Glass Cen
ter's Museum.
Visitors to the museum this
summer will see two panels of
heraldic stained glass, made In
1588, commemorating two mar
riages in the Washington family
in the days of the Tudors, a cen
tury before Washington's great
grandfather came to Virginia.
Some historians have attrib
uted the design of the American
flag to a pattern of stars and
stripes the Washington family's
coat of arms which appears on
the left side of each of the two
panels.
Originally at Sulgrave Manor,
Washingon's ancestral home, the
two panels were purchased this
year for nearly $9,000 at an auc
tion in London.

tern of the past, the current
crime "wave' will taper off and
the city will be lulled into a
false sense of security for anoth
er six months or a year. Then
a series of murders or gang wars
will bring the problem to the
surface again, and again there
will be talk of "getting to the
roots."
