Counsel Robert F. Kennedy
said the committee wanted to
know Dio's role in establishment
of several "paper locals" of the
giant Teamsters Union, which
the committee charges was done
to help Hoffa rig an election and
win control of all Teamsters in
New York.
The committee also summon
ed three officers of the "paper"
locals Nate Gordon of Team
ster Local 651, and Abe Brier
and Sydney Hodes of Local 362.
Typical of Switch
Brier and Hodes were listed
as officials of Local 649 of the
AFL United Auto Workers in
New York before turning up as
officers of Teamster Local 362.
The UAW-AFL local was domi
nated by Dio, also known as Dio
guardi. Kennedy indicated this was
typical of the switch whereby
Dio, as New York director of the
UAW-AFL, shifted his henchmen
into the Teamsters to staff the
"paper locals" set up in Novem

Adverse Winds Force
Atomic Test Delay
Las Vegas (W Adverse
winds forced the Atomic Ener
gy Commission early today to
postpone for 24 hours the fir
ing of its 12th nuclear device
of the 1957 test ' series at the
Nevad Proving grounds.
Scientists at a final briefing
within two hours of shot time
scheduled for 3:45 a.m. (P.S.T.)
decided that winds could carry
a stream of fallout over a popu
lated area east of the test site.
The much delayed test, called
"Shasta," was rescheduled for
the same time Friday.
The AEC had hoped to get
back on schedule for triggering
the "Shasta' device -which was
ready to fire July 29 but had
been delayed by weather con
ditions. The. test calls for the
"below nominal" yield device
to be set off from a 500-foot
tower.
Forest Fire Rages
In Idaho Country
Hailey, Idaho--nP) A big for
est fire raged through more tim
ber and brush in the Stanley
basin today, but forest officials
said firefighters finally appeared
to be "getting it beat down.".
Fire Dispatcher Gene Rodger
said the 455 men on the fire line
had contained the blaze within
about 19 miles of fire lines which
surrounded the estimated 1,600
acres covered by the fire. He
said most of the new blazes dur
ing the night were in brush and
trees between the burn and fire
lines.
Rodger said he would not list
the fire as under control because
a stiff wind still could whip the
flames into an inferno which
would jump to timber across the
fire lines and "that country is
known for its high winds."

Meat Packers Warned
Of Destruction if
Freight Rates Cut
Klamath Falls (IP) The West
Coast meat packing industry will
be destroyed if freight rates are
reduced on dressed meats shipped
from the Middle West to the Pa
cific Coast, labor was warned
Wednesday here at the state
AFL-CIO convention.
Elmer McClure.'master of the
Oregon state Grange, said, "the
rate reduction will destroy the
packing industry on this coast."
He urged AFL-CIO delegates to
fight a proposed Interstate Com
merce Commission rate reduc
tion plan.
Speaking of Oregon's tax
structure, McClure said that
"Oregon's tax structure is very
favorable and so far as the indi
vidual is concerned we stand
better than California, Washing
ton or Idaho.
He said that industry goes
and Central Point city fire de
partment was called to extin
guish the blaze. Both vehicles
were considerably damaged, ac
cording to Bowen. The accident
occurred at 3:40 p.m.
