July 21, 1957 Church Ceremony Marries Miss Harris, Merril Hval An event of Sunday after noon. July 14, was the wedding of Miss Sue Harris to Merril Hval, Portland. The bride is the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester D. Harris. 707 South Oak dale avenue, and the bride groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. George Hval, Portland. Dr. D. Kirkland West offi ciated for the double-ring cere mony, held at First Presbyterian church. Mr. Harris gave his daughter in marriage. The bride wore a gown of white lace and tulle over ice blue satin with fingertip veil falling from a cap of white and pale blue sequins. The veil and cap were loaned by Mrs. Tony Vlastilica. She carried a bou quet of red roses and stephan otis on a white Bible. Miss Sally Harris, maid-of-honor for her sister, wore a princess style dress of pale blue chrystalette and carried pink chrysanthem urns. Bridesmaidi and matrons were Miss Mary Kay Harris, younger sister of the bride. Miss Joaquina Hill strom, San Francisco, Miss Lois Stunkard. Astoria, Ore.; Mrs. Robert Swindler, Medford and Mrs. Tony Vlastilica who is now in Grants Pass after spending the past three years in Italy. Their frocks were also of blue chrystalette and their bouquets of pink chrysanthemums. Miss Marcia Beeler, cousin of the bride, lighted the candles. Her dress matched those worn by the bridesmaids, but was of a deeper shade of blue. Gary Hval was best man for his brother and ushers were Leo Hval, Ralph Johnson, Richard Bestone, Peter Lukich and Ed Hval. Miss Priscilla West was at the church organ, and Otis Swisher sang. The church decorations were of white gladiolus. A garden reception followed at the home of the bride s, par ents. Mrs. Howard Beeler. Mrs. Luther Harris, Lamont, Wash., Mrs. Murray Anderson, aunt of the bride, Mrs. Charles V. Her man, Miss Meta Jean Frink and Miss Johneva Pond poured and served. Mrs. Kenneth Phillips took charge of the guest book. The wedding cake was cut with an heirloom knife belonging to Mrs. W. J. Warner and which has been used at more than 70 weddings. For her daughter s wedding Mrs. Harris wore a pink cotton sheath dress with white acces sories and a white carnation corsage. The bridegroom's moth er was attired in a crepe after noon frock of medium blue worn with white accessories and a white carnation corsage. Ronald, Leo and Gary, all of Portland. Mr. Hval and his bride are spending their honeymoon in California and will make their home at 811 Northeast 102nd ' street, Portland. The bride, who was graduated from Oregon State college after attending Medford High school, was em ployed as a commercial teacher at Reynolds High school, Port 1 land, last year. She is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Mr. Hval attended Portland Miss Sally Harris To Be Stewardess Miss Sally Harris was grad uated last week from Pan-American Airways stewardess school in San Francisco and will be employed, by the firm as a fjight stewardess. Miss Harris was scheduled to make her first flight today to Hawaii. Miss Harris, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester D. Harris. 707 South Oakdale avenue, was grad uated from Oregon State college in June. Sojourners Sojourner's club will meet at Pythian hall, Thursday, July 25, at 12:30 p.m. All newcom ers to the valley are invited to attend. A coffee hour will be followed by a brief business meeting. Before the wedding, the bride elect was honored at a number of parties. Prior to the closing of her school in Portland, mem bers of the faculty and Girls' league presented her with a gift. Mrs. B. L. Hunter was hostess for a kitchen shower which hon ored Miss Harris, inviting wo men of the South Oakdale neighborhood to the event. An other party was given by Mrs. Kenneth Phillips and Mrs. Rob ert Swindler at the latter's home, guests for this event be ing former school friends. Everist to George Zickefoose Jr. The bride-to-be is a daughter of Mrs. OUie Everist, Nampa, Ida., and George Everist, Saratoga, Wyo., and Mr. Zickefoose is a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Zickefoose, Talent, Ore. A September wedding is planned. Miss Everist attended North west Nazarene Academy at Nampa, and is employed in that city. Her fiance attended Talent High school and Northwest Naz arene college. He plans to attend Southern Oregon college this fall. Church Rites n i I r vvea rair In Merrill Miss Barbara Hodges, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Eagle, Merrill, Ore., became the bride of David Lee Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Salsman, Las Vegas, Nevada, in a cere mony held Sunday, June 30, at 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon at the Merrill Presbyterian church. The Rev. Lloyd Henderson of ficiated at the double ring cere mony. The newlywed couple met while students at Southern Ore gon college, Ashland. The bride groom formerly made his home at 404 'i North Grape street, Medford, while he was em ployed by the Medford Concrete and Construction company. Given in marriage by her fa ther, the bride wore a ballerina length white nylon lace and net frock with a seed pearl crown holding her three quarter length veil. She carried stephanotis en circling a white orchid. Mrs. Beverly Park. San Diego, served as honor attendant for the bride while Miss Alice Win ter and Miss Joy Haskins were bridesmaids. They wore frocks of pale blue nylon chiffon and ! carried colenial bouquets of white carnations and blue Ester Reed daisies. Little Carolyn Eagle was flower girl. She wore a white nylon frock with blue sash and carried carnations and daisies. Ring bearers were Bevin and Scott Eagle. Leo Brutke served as best man while George Hodees. brother of the bridegroom, and Leslie Martin seated the guests. Xne church was decorated with vases of white gladiolus and blue daisies. Mrs. John Thomas played the traditional organ wedding music while Charles McFarland was soloist. The couple are now making their home in Corvallis while they are attending summer school at Oregon State college. Stafford, 1914 Westerlund drive, Medford, announce the engage ment of their daughter, Evalyn, to William J. Crocker, son of John C. Crocker, also, Medford. The engagement was announced at a betrothal party given last Sunday afternoon when about 35 guests were entertained dur ing the cocktail hour at the Staf ford home. Miss Stafford attended Willa mette university and is a grad uate of Oregon State college. She is a member of Ciii Omega social sorority. After attending Oregon State college for two years, Mr. Crocker served three years with the Army. He plans to return to Corvallis this fall, where he will enroll again at Oregon State college. An early fall wedding is planned. Altrusans Plan Dinner Meeting Medford Altrusans will enter tain husbands and guests of members at a barbeque and buf fet dinner Thursday, June 25, at the home of Dr. and Mrs. S. Ralph Dippel, who returned last week from an extensive Euro pean tour. Conner, route 2, Box 438-c, Medford, an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Billie, to Roy S. Mad den, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Madden, 1902 Houston road. Phoenix. Miss Conner is a graduate of Crater High school and attended Linfield college. At present she is employed as a stenographer at Harry and David Bear Creek orchards. Mr. Madden is a graduate of Phoenix High school and attend ed Southern Oregon college. He is employed by Alley Lumber company in Phoenix. A fall wedding is planned. Miss Billie Conner Medford Couple Hosts for Picnic Mr. and Mrs. Scott Davis were hosts to members of Beta Upsi lon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and their husbands for a picnic at the Davis' summer home on the Rogue River July 10. Mrs. Davis is the director of Beta Up silon. Mrs M. N. Hogan. sponsor, and Mr. Hogan attended. Other guests included Mr. and Mrs. John D. Selvy. Mrs. Selvy, a former member of the local chapter, now lives in Ashland. Following the picnic, cards, shuffleboard and dancing were held. Pennsylvanians Leave for Home Ashland Mr. and Mrs. Carl Dewey and daughter,' Anne, left for their home in Coudersport. Pa., Saturday morning after spending several days in Ash land as guests of Mr. and Mrs Bernard W i n d t, 1033 Clay street. The Deweys and the Windts have been friends for many years. The travelers planned to spend some time in San Francisco be fore returning east. This was their first trip to the west coast . . medford Golden Wedding To Be Observed Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Warner will pelebrate their golden wed ding anniversary this week. Members of their family will ar rive in Medford later this week to be with the couple, and a re ception will be held Saturday, July 27. at their South Oakdale avenue home. Friends are invited to call aft er three o'clock in the after noon. Mr. and Mrs. Werner are both members of early-day Jackson county families, and their mar riage took place in Medford. Degree of Honor lodge and the Past Presidents will hold a picnic Monday, July 22, at 6:30 p.m. at Hawthorne park. Those planning to attend are asked to take their own table service.
