Miners' Picnic The annual picnic of the Northwestern Mining Council, Inc., will be held starting at noon Sunday, July 21, it was announced to day. Refer Assumes Name of Leverette Building The business name "Leverette Building" has been assumed by the building's new owner, Ray mond Reter, according to county e'erk's records. It is situated at 205 West Main st. Reter acquired the building and other Leverette property in a federal government auction May 21. The property belonged to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lever ette and was seized and auction ed by the government for back taxes. Reter has had the property under lease since January, 1951. IVO.1ENS Prison CMiIMSCOPE TECMTKCetPR Mrs. Maasdam Dies In Salem Today Mrs. Maude Ann Maasdam, 78, mother of Medford Police Chief Charles P. Champlin, died early this morning in Salem fol lowing a long illness. Mrs. Maasdam was born March 5, 1879, in Waucoma, Iowa. After receiving her edu cation in Iowa, she moved to Oregon in 1911. She taught in Lincoln school here that year. She established residence in Medford in 1926. She married G. H. Maasdam in May, 1937. Mrs. Maasdam was active in the Medford First Presbyterian church, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 40 years and belonged to the Reames chapter here. . Surviving are her husband, G. H. Maasdam, Medford; a daughter, Pauline E. Champlin, Medford; two sons, Charles P. Champlin, Medford, and Elliot N. Jack) Butler, Corvallis; a sister, Mrs. L. J. Miller, Fontana, Calif.; a brother, Frank C. El liot, Redding, Calif.; six grand children, a niece and several nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the First Presbyterian church in Medford. The Rev. John Reynolds will of ficiate. Burial will be in Siski you Memorial park in Medford. The Reames chapter 66 of the OES will participate in the graveside ceremony. Industrial Stocks Continue To Climb Obituaries EDWIN FORDYCE Funeral services for Edwin Archie Fordyce. 88, of 519 Bart lett st., Medford, who died Mon day, will be held at' 10:30 a.m. Friday in Chapel Mortuary. The Rev. William C. Piper, of the First Christian church will of ficiate. Interment will be in Si skiyou Memorial park. Mr. Fordyce, son of W. M. and Margaret Grant Fordyce, was born in Jones county, Iowa, July 10, 1869. He was married in Vancouver, Wash., Sept. 21, 1922, to Sadie N. Bradley, who preceded him in death in 1949 in Medford. where they had moved in 1923. Mr. Fordyce was employed in fruit packing and orchard work. Surviving him is a nephew, Harley Fordyce, in Troutlake. JOSEPH WADDLE Joseph Waddle, 74, died yes terday at the VA Domiciliary at Camp White. A Chinese forestry patrol re ported sighting the wreckage earlier in the day in a remote mountainous area of this island. The plane had been missing since Tuesday on a routine flight from the Philippines to Formosa. U.S. search parties were scheduled to follow the Chinese groups to the crash site. Mackinac Island, Mich.
