Fifteen Girls To
Seek Miss U.S.A.

of American beauty were select
ed Tuesday night to vie for the
title of Miss United States of
America in the annual Miss
Universe beauty pageant.
It took judges more than two
hours to narrow a field of 44
American beauties down to the
15 finalists. The finals for the
Miss USA title will be held to
night. The finalists are Miss Arkan

Delayed 24 Hours
Las Vegas, Nev. (IF) The
Atomic Energy Commission has
postponed for 24 hours firing
of the eigth nuclear device of
the summer series because of
"technical and operational diffi
culties." The AEC Tuesday night re
scheduled the shot for 5:30 a.m.
(PST) Thursday. The blast,
dubbed "Owens," is expected to
equal nearly 6,000 tons of TNT.

The shelter, 2,000 yards from j

tion levels were so heavy that
the planned experiment of re
moving the soil with bulldozers
would be carried out later when
the area becomes safe for access.

she had "no idea" which was
one of the three attached to
Shakespeare's will and what doc
uments the others were taken
from.
Miss Hall was then presented
with a check for S64.000 she
had won previously on the $64,
000 plateau.

gram next Tuesday night.

Judges for the Medford con
test of the OK Rubber Welders
nation-wide contest, "Re-tire for
Life." have been named, accord
ing to Richard Fanger, operator
of the local store.
Judges are Tom McCleod,
manager of radio station KYJC,
June Hughes, of station KMED,
and Winn Marks, of station
KBOY. The three winning en
tries from this area will be sub
mitted to a national board of
judges who will select the grand
winner. The grand winner will
receive new tires for the rest of i
his life, Fanger said.
