Joseph F. Santoiana Jr., spe cial agent in charge of the Port land FBI office, said Polan was arrested after a tip from an un identified citizen who had seen a wanted poster in a post office. Polan was not armed, Santoiana said. Polan escaped from the Ari zona penitentiary on March 4, 1956. He had entered prison April 25, 1955, on a life sentence after being convicted of the 1953 slaying of Herbert Wright Sr. at Phoenix, Santoiana said. Polan was booked without bond on a charge of unlawful flight to avoid confinement and was to be arraigned today be fore the U.S. commissioner. Baldwin, N.Y. W Ralph G. Collier & Son Corp., book publishers, and father of the Collier's Encyclopedia, died Tuesday of a heart attack. of Medford Under Appointment from Pepsi - Nike Sites Being Built in Europe Heidelberg, Germany up The first two U.S. Army Nike rocket launching sites in Europe are under construction today in West Germany. Army officials ended a se curity blackout on the progress of the Nike project to disclose work has begun at two sites west of the Rhine river. Ger man sources said a total of 11 Nike launching sites are planned for West Germany. It was believed the Nikes will be the new Ajax model, capable ot carrying an atomic warhead. Polish Fishermen Ask Asylum in England Newcastle, England (IP Three Polish fishermen were in custody today while authori ties weighed their requests for political asylum. The three walked into a po lice station Monday and said they had jumped ship from a fleet of Polish trawlers which had sheltered in an English har bor during last week's storms in the North Sea. . J.
