Citizens of Cincinnati, St. . Aline Mosbr Peters burg. La., and Amarillo, Tex., didn't i know it, but Myrna, the Miss j USA of four years ago, worked as a clerk and a waitress in their , towns. ! Myrna claims she changed her name and toured the nation on bus "because I knew so little about people and life and I j couldn't give sincerity to a role." Her plan apparently worked. She wound up with an MCM con- j tract. Credits Drive The brunette actress thinks her drive is why she's headed ' up the ladder while other en trants in the annual beauty con test have not fared so well with : their acting goals. The onlv other contestants acting regularly in show busi ness are Jackie Loughery, busy on TV, and Ingrid Goude, Miss Sweden of last year whose con tract was renewed last week at j Universal - International Studio, j Last year's Miss Universe, Carol Morris, is winding up her job at UI. The studio, in fact, has reaped j so few actresses out of the Miss i Universe contest that this year UN is not offering the contest-1 ants movie contracts. ' But after 25 small rolls at UI, Myrna Hansen graduated to a plump role in MGM's "Raintree County," and a long-term con tract at that studio thanks to her six-month disappearing act. "Very few beauty contest win ners understand the hard work you have to put in to be an ac tress," she said. "They think they'll be stars overnight and the Miss Universe people don't discourage that idea. "When I came here I'd planned to go to college and study ani mal husbandry. I never had gone to movies. I thought Darryl E. Zanuck was a breakfast food. Wonderful Money "Then I decided to be an ac tress you can travel, meet dif ferent people, make wonderful money." She settled down to study and even gave up a social life, indicating the tremendous am bition of those who aspire to stardom. Myrna still doesn't date, go to parties or even visit friends. "I asked MGM if I could go away for six months because I realized how little I knew about life. "I cut my hair short. I roomed with other waitresses. I worked as a dental receptionist in Mem phis. As a waitress I made S25 a week plus tips. Nobody recog nized me but some people thought I looked familiar." Miss Hansen has one morel amazing item to report about I the amazing Miss Hansen. Her measurements when she was Miss USA were 36-25-35. Now they are 38-25-35. CALLING DR.
