The Jaycettes met Thursday, July 11. at the ho-ne of Mrs. Ed Kimmell with Mrs. Don Kimmel and Mrs. Keith Krambeal serv ing as hostesses. Plans were dis cussed for installation of of ficers. A charter committee, headed by Beverly Himmelman, will present an outline at the next meeting. Serving on this com mittee are Mrs. Jim Wallis, Mrs. Glenn Nelson, Mrs. John Ous terhout and Mrs. Ed Kimmel. Roll call at next meeting will be answered with a name for the Jaycee Newsletter. Permanent meeting dates have been set for the first and third Thursday of each month. The next meeting will be held at the Glenn Nelson home. Host esses will be Beverly Himmel man and Mrs. John Ousterhout. Refreshments and a baby shower for Mrs. Ted Greb followed the meeting. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Rippey, of Baker, Ore., Mr. and Mrs. William G. Pflum, of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Carl Paylor, of Portland, are visitors this week at the home of Mrs. Wil liam H. Brown, 223 North C street. Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Holmes and family spent a week in Vancouver, Wash., visiting with family and friends. Holmes transacted business while in Washington. Mr. J. D. Brown left by bus for Redmond, Ore., where he joined Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hisey for a trip to Grand Junction, Colo, and Mesa Valley, Colo. Brown visited with school day friends for' the first time in many years. Irrigation Line Breaks Near Hermiston Friday Hermiston (in A break in the major irrigation line fed from Cold Springs reservoir Fri day night flooded out a county road and inundated several hun dred acres of farm land about five miles east of here. Emmett Myers, field manager for the Hermiston Irrigation dis trict, said the amount of the dam age has not been determined. He also said crews have already been sent to repair the break and service is expected to be restor ed by Monday. A giant clam, the world's largest bivalve, reaches a length of four feet and weighs 600 pounds. DeMarlini Receives Leadership Citation Walter DeMartini of Courtesy Chevrolet in Medford has been awarded a citation . of special commendation for civic leader ship in driver education by the Oregon State Motor association. The citation is given to auto mobile dealers who participate in high school driver education by lending cars to the schools for behind-the-wheel training, the AAA club said. Dealers lend cars equipped with dual controls at no cost to the high schools in this program. Cars usually are loaned for a year at a time so that as each new model comes out, the dealer replaces the car with the newest model. Two Killed, 11 Hurl in Accident Lovelock, Nev. (IP1 Two persons were killed and H oth ers seriously injured Saturday in a high-speed, head-on collision on U.S. Highway 40 about 60 miles east of here. Seven of the injured were children, many of whom suffer ed various bone fractures when the two late-model autos collided near the Pershing-Humboldt county line. A Winnemucca mortuary iden tified the dead as Emile Ray mond Vostry, 28. Cedar Rapids, la., and Mrs. Aletta Linman, 24, Fountain, Colo. The state highway patrol said its early investigation show ed an eastbound car driven by James Dublas Tanner, 21, of Corning, Calif., drifted over into the westbound lane and collided with a car driven by Leland Linman, 29, husband of the dead woman. Vostry was a passenger in the Tanner car along with Beulah Tanner, 16, Orland, Calif., and Mrs. Helen McLaughlin, 33, of Marion, la. Also in the Tanner vehicle were Mrs. McLaughlin's five children, Jeanne, 10; Wil liam, Jr., 8; Randall, 6; Michael, 3, and Kenneth McLaughlin, 1. Two Linman children. Axel, 5, and Becky, 2, also were treat ed at Pershing General hospital. Physicians said the extent of the injuries suffered by the 11 injured persons had not been determined. Lewis, Wash., visited recently with Mrs. Vera Kimmel of Eagle Point and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Zimmerlee of Shady Cove, parents of Mrs. Kimmel. Kim mel is taking MP schooling at Ft. Lewis. Mrs. Ethel Coy and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harnish and son. Earl, made a trip to Reno, Nev., to visit Mr. and Mrs. Neil Ballard and family. The Eagle Point Jaycees meet ing July 10 was attended by 15 members, with Dick Stratton, of Central Point, and Ron James, of Medford, as guests. James re ported on the National Jaycee convention held at Milwaukee, Wis., last week. Stratton spoke on attendance and suggested fund raising projects. The em blem for the Eagle Point Jaycees was selected. Glenn Nelson was acting president in the absence of President Bert Simmons. The material and style for the Eagle Point Jaycee chapter jacket will be discussed and se lected at the July 17 meeting to be held at the Teenage club at 8 p.m. All members and inter ested persons are urged to attend. The younger set of the Pee Wee baseball team defeated the Medford East Side Sandblowers team Wednesday, July 10, at the Hawthorne ball park by a score of 9-2. The winning battery was Dane (Butchie) Smith and Rusty Clave. Coach Thompson has ten tatively scheduled four games for this younger group, with the next game being played Mon day, July 15, at 9:00 a.m. at the Medford High school. The game will be played against the West Side team. Carl Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Johnson, under went surgery Saturday, July 6, at the Sacred Heart hospital. Young Carl will be allowed visit ors the latter part of the week Mr. and Mrs. Vern Bonebrake attended the funeral of Mr. D. A. Kier, grandfather of Mrs. Bonebrake, at Roseburg Tues day, July 9. Mr. and Mrs. Myron Jackson, of Eureka, Calif., and Mrs. Nile Leach, of Port Angeles, Wash., relatives of Vern Bonebrake, were visitors at the Bonebrake home this past week. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Sones, from Lone Star, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. John Sones and children, of Grand Prairie, Texas, and niece. Kay Faulkner, were visitors at the John Lucas home on South B street recently. The group also visited Mrs. Dallie Kenner on the Crater Lake highway and a brother in Cave Junction, George Cook. Dean Tibbits, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey Tibbits, visited here from Baker during the holi days. Also visiting the Tibbits were Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Ab- J bott and family from Roseburg and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Stovall and children, from Herlong, Calif., were guests of the Tib bits for the first time in 22 years. Mrs. Margaret Abbott of E. St. Louis. Mo., spent four days at the Tibbits. Mr. and Mrs. Augie Lewis and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Whaley and families journeyed to Harbor, Ore., over the July 4 week end for an outing of fishing and swimming. Mrs. Augie Lewis drove Verna : Mastaes of Medford to Eugene this past week and returned to : southern Oregon by bus. j Scott Boyer returned home Saturday, July 6 from the Rogue j Valley Memorial hospital after undergoing medical treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Short and family visited Mrs. Short's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ireland, at Crescent City this past week. Hazel Atkins was visiting in Port Orchard and Malott, Wash., with relatives when she was called home by the death of her sister, Mrs. Hallie Head, of Klamath Falls. Special funeral services were held at Klamath Falls Friday, and in Medford Saturday, with burial at Central Foint. Mrs. Louise Berg was released from the hospital last week w here she had been hospitalized several weeks following an auto mobile accident. Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Phelan, of Shady Cove, have moved in to one of the apartments in the Louise Berg building. Visiting at the Emery Cun ningham home from Eureka, HI., this week are Cunningham's aunt, Mrs. Shannon, and daugh ter, Mrs. Nancy Scott and boys David and Terry. The group will return to Illinois the latter part of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Stan Smith and family journeyed to Baker, Ore , during the July 4 week end. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Lyle VanScoy from Portland during the July 4 week end was Mrs. VanScoy's sister, Mrs. Hinkle. Also visiting the VanScoys was Mrs. Hinkle's daughter and hus band, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald E. Baldus, from Bremerton, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Guerin of Burlingame. Calif., visited with their unt, Mrs. Lottie Van Scoy. on their way to Portland recently. Mr. and Mrs. Vance Howe, cf Beaverton, Ore., were house guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Edge the first part of last week. Their daughter, Phyllis, who had been visiting Bonnie. Von nie and Connie Goehring for ten days, went with them on their return trip by way of Fish lake. Diamond lake and Crater lake. Mr. and Mrs. John Ensminger, and sons, Lorin and Bobbie, and their daughter, Patricia, of Lin di. Calif., spent four days last week as guests of Jim Edge and family. James Edge took a plane to Baldwin Park, Calif., last Sat urday to attend the funeral of a life-long friend. Miles Beamer. lie also visited his neice at Santa Monica and returned by plane Mrs. G. Francis Putman and daughters, Diane and Celia, and Mrs. John Carnes and son, Don-. aid, returned from Auburn. Wash., where they visited a sis ter, Mrs.W. G. Curtice and fam ily and "another sister, Mrs. W. J. Painter and family, at Castle Rock. Mrs. Lloyd Adamson made the trip to Washington with the group, returning Saturday by bus. Sherry Taylor, grand-niece, joined the group at Enterprise on their trip home and will spend the summer in Eagle Point. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Kram beal and family, of Gold Beach, were visitors over the July 4 week end at the Keith Krambeal home. The families did some boating and swimming at the lake. . Bids Called for Two Ranger Station Homes Portland Bids will be open ed at 2 p.m. July 30 by the for est service for construction of residences at two ranger sta tions in the Rogue River Na tional forest. One residence is planned for construction at the Butte Falls ranger station and the other at the Fort Klamath ranger sta tion. The buildings will be one slory structures 40 by 50 feet and 30 by 64 feet. Septic tanks, drainage fields and water lines will be included in the contract.
