Necklines show just as much
variety, although the accent for
fall is on bareness rather than
cover. That old-time favorite,
black crepe, is revived for both
short and long evening wear in
designer collections being shown
this week to visiting fashion re
porters. The shows are sponsor
ed by the couture group of the
New York Dress Institute.

some of them in neon-bright col

tions. -
Evening wear usually features
glitter, but this fall there will
be more than usual. It is a rare
designer without at least one
beaded, sequined or embroider
ed cocktail or evening dress in
the collection.
Favorite fabrics for evening,
beside the crepes, are chiffon
lame, jacquard with its elabor

and panne velvets, satin chiffon,
silk georgette, brocades and
chantilly and re-embroidered
laces.
Black and white, and the
vivid blues, greens and reds
shows through all lines.
Fur trimming is a widely used
for evening as for daytime. The
firm of the late Hattie Carnegie
collared a brocade dinner suit
in white mink. Oleg Cassini
showed a pale blue satin ball
gown with a cerulean mink cuff
around the strapless bodice.
Tine Leser stressed the knit
or sweater look in her clothes
shown yesterday. One of her
tricks for the college set is a
wide striped knit jersey "union
suit." covered by a black knit
skirt. She combined extra long
cashmere sweater tops with
skinny-cut cashmere wool or
tweed skirts.

Children Get Proteins,
Lack Some Vitamins
Washington (IP A three
state study of school children's
eating habits shows they're eat
ing well. But there's plenty of
room for improvement.
The U. S. Department of Agri
culture said the experiment sta
tions in Iowa, Kansas and Ohio
took a thorough look at diets of
nine- 10 and 11-year-olds. They
found that most school children
nred more calcium, ascorbic
acid and vitamin A in their
daily fare. -
In general, the youngsters ate
plenty of protein-rich and cer
eal foods,. but needed more vit-amin-r'ch
fruits and vegetables.
The studies showed differences
of eating habits in different
areas. The diets of Iowa children
for instance, were highest . in
food nergy value, vitamin A
and ascorbic -tcid. Girls in Kan
sas received more protein than
those in the other two states.
Advice on how the woman in

which is now available at the

And Mrs. Moser admits she
doesn't like being bored. She said
she got the job because she want

"I painted my home myself;
then I took a course in upholster

with nothing to keep me busy."
It was then Mrs; Moser decid

service and get a job.
"And here I am," she said.
"About a dozen women started
the maid service course, but only
five of us finished."
The silver-haired grandmother

of the most fashionable sections
of Miami Beach. Her neighbors
include prominent names in poli

She uses her earnings at her
hotel job to help three families

Mrs. Moser's advice to elderly
